It was only last week when Western Australia announced the removal of 160 (!) of the items on their Skilled Occupations list, bringing their inventory of in-demand occupations for migrant workers down to a scant 18 and citing a “West Australians first” policy” as their rationale.
Now, it seems that Southern Australia will follow suit, with Victoria removing five (5) occupations from their Visa Nomination Occupations List.
On 30 June 2017, the Australian Government released a new Skilled Occupations List for 2017-1018. This coincided with other key migration changes, such as the new maximum age requirement for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Regional visa (subclass 489). (As of 1 July 2017, applicants for either visa must apply to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection before their 45th birthday to qualify.)
