Are we making a good decision in moving to Australia?

bronapple143bronapple143 MandaluyongPosts: 11Member
Hi guys! Im just a new member in this forum. I guess I need advice from pinoys in Oz. We are pursuing permanent residency under skilled visa there in Oz. We have friends there whos willing to help us if we decided to move in, no relatives. My husband is the primary applicant and we are his dependents with our 2 kids 5 and 2 years old. He currently works as Operations Mnager in multinational company and earning 6 digits every month. He has a promotion waiting for him as he was told by his boss, their way of stopping him in leaving the company. Is it worth everything we have here if we pursue our Australian visa application? We know that once were there hubby shouldn't be too picky on jobs hes okay with that but we still have this little amount of hesitation and worries. Is it a good decision to start a new life in land down under?

    hi bronapple143

Kung ok na kayo dyan ng family mo sa pinas, say satisfied na kayo sa income niyo for now at sa insight niyo in 5 to 10 years time e magiging okay kayo, then stay na lang kayo sa pinas...

pero kung iisipin niyo ang long term plan, as in long term plan, which includes a better future para sa mga kids niyo at a relaxed environment, then, by all means, magpunta na kayo dito sa Oz :-)

For me, ang iniisip ko talaga bago ako nagdecide na mag-oz is the fact na magiging Au citizen ako at ang mga anak ko which will open a lot of opportunities hinde lamang sa akin kundi para sa mga kids ko...and besides, nakaka inis na dyan sa pinas, ang nayaman lang e mga pulis at politicians :-p at least dito, kahit basurero, newspaper boy, waiter, etc e ma-fefeel mo na appreciated ka at masaya mag-work dito... :-)

in the end, its really between the two of you na mag-asawa para mag-decide...of course, pag dating niyo dito e adjustment period pa talaga...

With that kind of salary, you'd be living a good life in the Philippines, your kids will have the opportunity to a go to a good school, and you can afford to have a house, car, nannies and luxuries. You will also be with family and friends. If you go to Australia, you and your hubby will be starting anew, and there is no guarantee that you will reach the same success as you have attained there. But then, iba ang lifestyle here - its slower, simpler, and there's more work-life balance. In the end, the decision for each of us is a personal one, and depends on what we value most.

You can proceed with PR application.. It will take another 1 yr..

    Dont resign, get that promotion..

Or balik lahat kayo sa pinas..

Pag okay p rin ang work ni mister, tuloy lang ng work sa pinas.. Pwde namn sya pumunta sa AU within 5 yrs ( bago mag expire ang PR visa), by that time naka ipon na kayo ng marami..

Agree with @lock_code2004 - you can try it out for a few years with no full commitment after you get your visas, then decide eventually. You might see things differently from the outside looking in.

This was my justification and a self-formulated quote as well (patent):

"I'd rather be poor in a rich country, than rich in a poor country."

It doesn't matter how rich I can get in the Philippines. I'd still go through the same traffic every g*ddamn day, still be at risk from rampant crime and anarchy, and still endure destructive typhoons and calamities at least 3 times a year.

That's when I realized that your quality of life is not always directly proportional to your income and financial standing.

I've been in Sydney for 6 months now. I have been lucky to get a job that's paying 12 times my salary in the Philippines. But even if it didn't, I would never regret the decision I made even at the expense of being away from family.

At the end of the day though, the decision boils down to WHAT REALLY IS IMPORTANT TO YOU.

    Good luck!

in my opinion iba2x talaga happiness and goal ng mga tao. based on what i've seen from our friends hindi talaga madali ang life dito, mahirap makapag-ipon ng malaki lalo if youre raising a family. but then para sa amin and kakilala namin, it's all worth it dahil kapalit naman nito ay quality life na hindi mo makukuha sa pinas and a brighter future for the kids. it gives us security kasi knowing the govt. here will do what they can para madali ang pamumuhay ng karamihan here. but if you prefer to be richer, i know a lot who chose to grow their wealth sa pinas over spending their money for PR visa, and you aleady live an abundant life in pinas baka you'll be happier there :)

@bronapple143 hello. Magaganda ung comments something you might want to consider

Hindi naglalayo ang case naten actually. My wife and I have been living in dubai for years now, each earning a six digit salary and hold management positions. Needless to say we are having a good career and living a good life.

However, the reason kaya kami nagdecide na mag apply sa OZ is para sa future ng mga anak namin. Dito, hindi sila magiging citizen. At base sa mga experiences ko, andaming benefits if you are a citizen of a first world and english is your first language. We want our children to experience those benefits.

@bronapple143, it is not just the money though.

What is the quality of life in Manila?
    Think about it.

What is the quality of the air in Manila? What is the quality of the water?
Do you really want your kids to grow up getting used to all the trash and dirty air they see and breathe in every day? Did you know that there is a very high risk of getting lung cancer for people in Manila?

What about money for when you are going to grow old? Or how about medical assistance?
I am single and have no kids. I saw my dad living a good life. But when he retired, he only had his savings to sustain him. Within a couple of years, that was gone. And it is up to us kids to provide for him. Luckily, I am single and earning more than enough for myself and his needs.

But do I want that kind of situation for myself? Do I want to place the burden on my nieces and nephews when I get old?

Do you or your husband want to rely on your kids when you get old? Do you want to put that burden on them?

Because honestly, even if you have millions in the bank, if you get sick once or twice, will the money be enough? Will the government provide for your medical needs? Or will you be like other pensioners who have to sell off their assets to be able to pay for their medical needs?

Truthfully, there are a lot more reasons, but these are the major factors for me.

So again I ask you, what is the quality of your LIFE in Manila?

Mas complicated nga kung galing ka ng ibang bansa then moving to Australia. Like here in Singapore, personally there's more to offer than Australia in other areas (i.e. weather, savings, crime rate, nightlife, shopping, overall convenience, transpo, proximity to pinas, food, etc.). I have ex-colleague who is currently working in Qatar and planning to move to Australia pero very hesitant sya kasi sobrang ok din salary nya dun plus perks (expat package) with senior position. Unless you are very sure and willing to take the risks/ unknown then its the time to move. Expect less and you gain more.

You are earning 6 digits in Manila (if net then that's a lot). You can really live comfortably na sa ganitong salary. The fact that you still considering migrating to Australia means there's something missing. If i were you i will pursue the chances to migrate in Australia. The "only" way to verify whether your future decisions will be correct is if you personally experienced living in Australia.

ako, i've worked in singapore for almost 6 years. maganda ang salary. yun lang, sulit ka sa mga chinese bosses mo. haha. minsan di ko alam pinagkaiba ng sunday sa monday. trabaho, bahay, laba, luto, repeat. pero stagnant ang career ko dito. i will never be a registered surveyor. they take care of their own and their numbers are kept intentionally small. sa australia, i can go back to school, get good experience and in the foreseeable future be registered. even kahit hindi na. the salary working in australia is better than singapore, light years better than pinas. ang australian labor laws much better than singapore which is really employer-centric. another thing is safety. nasa pinas ako ngayon, nagpapahinga before the big move. mapapanuod mo sa tv. rape, carnapping, murder, hulidap, riding in tandem. susginoo! suko na ako. it pains me to say, hopeless na ang pilipinas. the middle class knows this & is migrating by the bucket loads. just my two cents.

@vhoythoy haha ako din, investigating schools and courses I can take.

If you stay in pinas, kahit may kaya kayo, what's to say na di kayo mapahamak? Scary reading or seeing all those things that are happening.

Parang dati years ago, sumabog ung glorietta 2, araw araw kami nadaan dun pauwi ng bahay.

Aral and work hopefully at same time

Depende sa tao, priorities and happiness. Kailangan nya lang ng moral support. Worth mag Australia go na !!! =)
