Requirements before Australian Citizenship Application

topic #1: Residence Requirements

Au Citizenship Act 2007 Residence Requirements

To satisfy the residence requirements, you must have:
* 4 years lawful residence in Australia. This period must include 12 months as a PR immediately before making an application for Au citizenship

AND

* absences from Au of no more than 12 months in total in the 4 years prior to application, including not more than 90 days in the 12 months immediately prior to application

SOURCE: https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/citz/startIntervalCalc.do

My own example:

Permanent Residence Date starts May 3, 2015 based on Initial Entry date
Intended Lodgement Date is May 3, 2019 which is 4 years after IED

Periods outside of Au:
May 25, 2015 to January 25, 2016 = 8 months; kayod muna sa SG, dagdag pera, hehehe
May 25, 2017 to June 25, 2017 = 1 month; Pinas vacation
May 25, 2018 to June 25, 2018 = 1 month; Pinas vacation

so kahit 3 years ka lang pala 'physically' nasa Au, pwede ka na magiging Au citizen (if my understanding is correct)???

Assessed Occupation: Industrial Engineer (IE 233511)
Achieved Goal: Australia PR (Permanent Resident). Thanks God!

...sharpening my core gifts now...
...working on new, better goals...

@vhoythoy your Permanent Residence Date and your Lawful Residence Date is yung IED mo, hindi yung date ng big move mo.

    December 14 - December 17 (Australia) - IED
    December 18 - December 29, 2012 (Philippines) (12 days)

Ang sabi ay June 2017 ay pwede na ako mag-apply ng citizenship. Pero wala naman ako sa Australia ng more than 12 months kasi ay nasa States ako. Tama ba ako sa pagkakaintindi ko?

the way I interpret your case ay kaya sa June 2017 ka pa pwede mag-apply dahil from June 2013 to June 2017 (total of 4 years), your absence from Australia is NOT more than 12 months in total in the 4 years prior to your June 2017 application.

if only you stayed less than 12 months in the US, I believe pwede ka na sanang mag-apply as early as sa 4th year mo after your Australia IED which is December 2016.

@brixx89 If u were granted a PR visa onshore, your PR date is the date that visa was issued.
If u were granted a migrant visa OFFshore, your PR date is your date of first arrival in Au on this visa.

@brixx89 I guess @JCsantos is correct based from the statement below:
If u were granted a PR visa onshore, your PR date is the date that visa was issued.
If u were granted a migrant visa OFFshore, your PR date is your date of first arrival in Au on this visa.

    questions:

    1. after sa PR 5-year expiry, tama ba na PR ka pa din pero hindi ka nga lang lumabas ng Au?
    2. if answer to #1 is Yes, bababa ba ang chance na maapprove as citizens pag-nag-apply after na sa PR 5-year expiry?

Nice although other consequence I see pertaining to #1 is hindi ka nga lalabas sa Au until ma-citizen ka which is so depressing naman halimbawa may family emergency sa Pinas after your 5th year as PR. Kaya I think mas practical pa din to become Au citizen before the 5-year PR expiry. Are we in the same boat boss @wizardofOz?

@IslanderndCity yes we are on the page.. I believe kaya ginawang 5 years yung validity ng PR visa is to tailor-fit na ideally you will immediately enter Oz and satisfy your 4-year pre-citizenship residency requirements, then may 1 year buffer lang for short vacations offshore and for the processing of your citizenship application..

Yung RRV lang ang option natin just in case we would like to exit and return to Oz beyond the 5-year validity of our PR visa.

In my case, I've already used up almost 1 year outside Oz so it means by the time I satisfy my 4 years residency sa Oz expired na yung visa ko.. but I still need to go out of Oz to get PCC clearances (citizenship requirement), which means I need an RRV para makabalik sa Oz...

The 'perceived' problem here is the 14 months absence in Au prior the "big move". It means the 5 years will be completed before qualifying for citizenship.

Well its just a matter of good planning ... either you take the risk of waiting for 4 years to get a citizenship and a AU passport and hope you dont need to go back to PH for emergency reason or start reading how to extend your visa

In my case, I've already used up almost 1 year outside Oz so it means by the time I satisfy my 4 years residency sa Oz expired na yung visa ko.. but I still need to go out of Oz to get PCC clearances (citizenship requirement), which means I need an RRV para makabalik sa Oz...
your IED was last Dec 2014 so mag 1 year in Dec 2015 yet. so you still have barely 2 months right? then your 5-year visa will expire Aug 2019 yet. so you may become Au citizen prior Aug 2019

    questions:

    1. after sa PR 5-year expiry, tama ba na PR ka pa din pero hindi ka nga lang lumabas ng Au?
    2. if answer to #1 is Yes, bababa ba ang chance na maapprove as citizens pag-nag-apply after na sa PR 5-year expiry?
    1. after sa PR 5-year expiry, tama ba na PR ka pa din pero hindi ka nga lang lumabas ng Au?
    - Yes

    2. if answer to #1 is Yes, bababa ba ang chance na maapprove as citizens pag-nag-apply after na sa PR 5-year expiry?

    - Based from what I've read...walang ganung rule. As long as you meet the criteria and the requirements to apply for citizenship.. maa-approve ka
    Any insight po?
@IslanderndCity yes we are on the page.. @wizardofOz
your 5-year visa will expire Aug 2019 yet? so it means even if you apply for citizenship Mar 2019 (after complying 4-year residency), you still have 5 months to go to Pinas for emergency or to SG to get your PCC prior Aug 2019.
    tama ba?

Is there any other criteria na tinitignan ng Australia to get the citizenship other than residency requirement?

Like income, contribution and etc.? or others that may influence the result like maybe violations. If there's any link please direct me. thank you in advance
