Thank you for your enquiry.
If you have an overseas Driver’s Licence and have moved to South Australia, you must change your overseas Driver’s Licence to a South Australian Driver’s Licence within three (3) months of becoming a permanent resident.
Applicants for a South Australian Driver’s Licence who hold or have held, within the preceding five years, an overseas Driver’s Licence from one of the identified countries listed below are exempt from the requirement to undertake and pass a written test and the practical driving test for basic car and motorcycle class only.
Austria
Belgium
Canada
Croatia
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Guernsey
Ireland
Isle Of Man
Italy
Japan
Jersey
Luxembourg
Netherlands
New Zealand
Norway
Portugal
Singapore
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
United Kingdom
United States
Malta
Unfortunately The Philippines is not an approved country, in relation to the Australian Road Rules.
http://www.sa.gov.au/topics/transport-travel-and-motoring/motoring/interstate-and-international-motorists/motorists-from-overseas/driving-with-an-overseas-licence
You will have to pass a written test on the road rules and a practical driving test before a South Australian Driver’s Licence can be issued. The written test can be undertaken at any Service SA Customer Service Centre between 9:00am and 4:00pm or at any country Police Station. If attending a Service SA customer service centre you will be required to attend the centre of your choice to make a booking to sit the Theory test, payment of $34.00 will also be required at this time.
You will need to present evidence of your identity. Please refer to below website for a list of accepted documents:
http://www.sa.gov.au/topics/transport-travel-and-motoring/motoring/drivers-and-licences/maintaining-and-updating-your-driver-s-licence/evidence-of-identity
Identification will be your current overseas Driver’s Licence, passport documentation from category B, e.g. financial institution account card with signature and embossed name, and evidence of your South Australian residential address, e.g. rental/lease agreement, utilities bill or bank statement. If your licence is not written in English you will also need an English Translation of your Driver’s Licence or your International Driving Permit. To obtain a translation you should contact:
The Interpreting and Translation Centre
24 Flinders Street
Adelaide SA 5000
Telephone : 8226 1990 http://www.translate.sa.gov.au/
The Driver’s Handbook needs to be studied prior to undertaking the test. The Driver's Handbook is available from some news agencies and Service SA Customer Service Centres, at a cost of $10.00 (including GST). The Driver's Handbook may be borrowed from participating public libraries and is also available to view and download via this site:
http://www.mylicence.sa.gov.au/road-rules/the-drivers-handbook
The Royal Automobile Association RAA website offers a practice test facility. Please go to the address http://www.raa.com.au/motoring-and-road-safety/learning-to-drive/take-the-online-learners-test
The fee to sit the written test is $34.00.
Upon passing the written test you will be issued with a Theory Test Certificate of Attainment” letter is to be issued . This letter confirms the theory test has been passed and a practical driving test is required for the *equivalent class of the overseas licence. Section 97A of the Motor Vehicles Act 1959 allows the client to continue driving on their overseas licence in order to undertake a practical driving test
If the client fails the practical test or the certificate expires, a learner’s permit for that class is issued. The client then becomes subject to learner conditions, but is exempt from the compulsory twelve months (or six months if they are 25 years of age or older) and 75 hours of supervised driving.
During that time you will need to undertake a practical driving test with an Authorised Driving Examiner. A sample of these practical driving tests will be subject to a further validation, before a South Australian Licence is issued. This requires the applicant to undertake a further practical driving test (validation assessment) with a government assessment officer at no cost. The Authorised Driving Examiner will issue you with a Certificate of Competency once you have successfully passed the practical driving test. Should you be unable to obtain the Certificate of Competency during the currency of your temporary permit, you will need to apply for a Learner’s Permit. This will allow you more time to undergo the practical driving test.
You will then need to attend a Service SA Customer Service Centre with your overseas Driver’s Licence, the Certificate of Competency, temporary permit and evidence of identity. A photo of you will be taken and a temporary Driver’s Licence issued. Your photographic licence will then be posted to you. A South Australian Driver’s Licence may be issued for a period between 1 and 10 years. The fee is $39.00 per year plus a $17.00 administration fee.
For Service SA Centre locations please go to the following website address:
http://www.sa.gov.au/directories/customer-service-centres/locations-and-opening-hours
For enquiries about foreign Language tests insert the following information also.
Applicants who are unable to read and write English can sit for the written road rules test in their native language. Service SA will pay for an interpreter for the first attempt.
Firstly you must pass the compulsory give-way part of the written test (give-way diagrams). Following this an interpreter will be booked for you at the Customer Service Centre

Kelangan mo lang makapasa sa theory test, take VORT (Vehicle on the Road Test) and pass a hazard perception test.
Tapos yung actual exam is $285 (it includes one practise session prior the actual test and yung fee for the examiner). Nalaman ko recently na mura eto kasi yung hubby ko nasa $300+++ ang singil sa kanya for the VORT exam alone.

Hehe. Yung instructor cannot be the same person as the examiner unfortunately.

1. Get DL sa Pinas either pro or non-pro.
2. Once nasa Au na & hindi pa expire and Pinas DL, take written test (fee = 34 $) kahit wala pang own sasakyan (no work/adjustment mode pa po eh )
3. After passing written test, pwede na ako magdrive for 1 year
4. Before mag-1-year, take Actual Driving test (fee = 289 $) and take the Hazard Perception Test (fee = ??? $)
5. Once passed #4, then I'll have my Au Pro DL na
???

A friend who's been driving in Phils for 10+ years, got into a minor accident first week in Australia because of 'habits' he had. (not doing shoulder check EVERYTIME, does not know how to merge, and does not know how to use roundabouts)
better safe than sorry.
