The exchange rate now is 1AUD=33PHP. As Pinoys we have the obligation to provide for our parents and siblings in the philippines.

With the Australian economy struggling what are the chances...
-we get a Job in our respective occupations?
-A Salary enough to sustain your family in Oz and support your Parents/siblings?

Would it be wise to wait little longer until the economy picks up?

I think it is best to secure a job before permanently moving to Oz.

I'm still optimistic that Au will recover from its economic slowdown. Recession is imminent and bad timing for us aspiring immigrants. Exchange rate for Au and SG is almost similar. I'm currently residing in SG but I'm still willing to migrate and hope to give a better future for my children.

It will be difficult to find a job related to our field unless we can try other opportunities that can sustain our families for the meantime. Additional trainings or courses that we can take as added advantage to our qualifications.

Given with the present situation of Au's economy, the future is still uncertain. Why not take the risk? Who knows, a yr or two Au will recover. Au is the world's 12th largest economy.

Were here for almost 4 years now through my husband 457 visa, in our first year here we do struggle a little bit because i cannot find a job, i cant practice my profession here as a dentist, i still need to undergo a lot of preparations or even going back to Uni :( and it need heaps of $$$ so i deleted it on my priorities, i looked for any job i did some dental assisting in a casual basis, i tried odd jobs too but still you need to have a certificate taken here in OZ, and thankfully my hubby was able to gave me opportunity to work in his sponsoring company not my line of work a little bit physical but it is better than nothing, it is really better if you have a job ready when you come here in oz because as we all know Australia has a high standard of living, your family way back in the Philippines must understand that it will take time for us migrants to adjust and be stable in all aspects of life here in a new country, but aside from those experiences we had i still prefer to live here because i know it will give my children a better and secure future, in the meantime the economy is down but it will not be long for sure. when you come here dont expect that you will get the job you been dreaming of but try to gain experiences and be qualified in your dream job.. im not a dentist here but i will tell you what i earned here is incomparable to what i earned as a dentist for 11 years in the Philippines. Dreams here are possible and attainable :)

Theres always uncertainties in the future..make a gamble, maybe this is the right time your are qualified to apply. Immigration policies changes every now and then. Weigh your priorities.almost all migrants experienced difficulties in the first few years. It doesnt mean that even with good economy di ka na mahibirapan to look for employment. Remember, there's always unemployed people and you will still compete with them during job hunting....unless you opted for the 457 employer sponsored visa :-)

i think it's a very broad question and it all boils down to individual circumstance of each aspiring migrant. Confidence to move is one important factor but it's equally important to understand the where each confidence is drawn - big baon? having friends and relatives who pledge to support? high skill and job demand condition? And many others..

iba po kasi yung perspective ng recession at economic slow down ng mga Filipinos than first world countries. Pero no, I choose to live simpler but safer. Walang safety net dito. Di maganda health care. Madumi. Traffic. Stress.

    Thanks for the comments :)

Australia is the place to be. BUt you have to make some sacrifices to acheive that Australian Dream.

To take a gamble as recommended by @fgs is an option that has to be considered. However to Bet on something you have to look at its probabilty.

I do agree with @sunflower and @leah28 that if you are currently working in the philippines and/or earning less the time for the australian dream is now. :) . Because the risks are minimal.

But For OFWs, highed salaried employees in RP and bussinesmen like @superluckyclover. There are a lot of risks which seems to be a low probability gamble due the economic slump.

@kittykitkat18 and Myself seem to have almost the same situation. im currently here in brunei.
The prospect of ending up earning less with an Odd job is a bit scary to me. Considering Brunei Dollar, SGD and AUD are now of the same value. Our take home pay maybe smaller in AU. Marami kasi umaasa sa akin kaya maapektuhan cgurado sila.

@Futures , Yes different people have differrent circumstances and different sources of their confidence.

In my Case my confidence will depend on the Job demand condition and it doesnt seem so encouraging this 2015-2016. I might be wrong though.

Im bit torn between obtaining an Job before moving or Moving before finding a JOb.
The Latter seems more riskier and would need a lot of confidence. This is the reason i have posted this discussion.

Thanks again for your insightful comments. :) cheers

@Electrical_Engr_CDR in my case bro play safe din. The business will be taken care of my spouse first. It's a family business pala. But someone should move to aussie habang maluwag pa ang immigration rules.

Nakakabahala kasi more than a year pa bago ako mag big move. It's good to know opinion ng mga people here especially those who are already living in AU. :)

I'm waiting na for my Visa 190 in SA. I know it's still a good decision to move from SG to AU, but the question is when... assuming lumabas yung visa by Nov 2015, I'm given 6 months (until May 2016) to move or initial entry lang.

May pagasa kaya na umayos ang economy by April 2016 for me to decide? or the economic slowdown will last until 2017? Ramdam nyo ba mga taga AU slowdowned economy?

I know better economy will not guarantee of me landing a job but of course it's more advantageous. I have been researching and contemplating to move or not to move byt next year? Kasi ang status ng AU is still hanging for now... kaya nagbabasa din talaga ako ng mga inputs nyo for consideration. thanks guys!

Hi! Actually magiging apektado ka if your sending monthly allowances sa Pinas but kung hindi nman di nman affected kse same nman pay mo at ganon din ang gastos kya di mo mararamdaman, pero kung papadala mo sa Pinas mararamdaman mo tlaga kse inabutan nmen 43 palit in 1 aud ngayon 33 na lng sya, buti n lng di nman ganon ka dependent sa amin family nmen sa Pinas :) thats base in my experience here, mhalaga din magka work ka agad or mas ok kung pagpunta mo may work na kse yun ang mejo downside mhirap maka kuha ng work sa ngayon :) pero to top it all maganda at masarap mabuhay dito lalo na sa future ng mga anak natin :)

If we remove the “recession” in the equation, just like what @Futures mentioned, it would still boil down to how much “Baon” you have...

Would your Baon be enough to sustain you, including yung pera na nakalaan for your responsibilities sa Pinas/Family, for 3, 6 mos, or 1 year na bakante? Yes, the recession has a factor on how long your baon would last, but that’s too complicated and obsessive na to predict and consider.

Willing ba kayo mag odd jobs for 1 year, raket dito, raket doon?

:P )? Your decision would depend on your circumstances… Like in my case, my company has many compensation-based retention programs, basically the longer I stay, the more money I will save…

Kaya babalik uli tayo doon sa Baon, if you “wait it out” and save, how much is enough? What if the recession or economic slump, lasts longer, are you still going to wait it out? Or paano kung natapos na daw ang recession, but the moment you stepped into Australian soil, biglang nag-recession uli, ano gagawin mo?

Kaya sa madaling salita, kung hindi ka naman nagmamadali at may option ka pang iba, stay put ka muna where you are and observe.

Pero kung gusto mo na talagang magsimula, at meron ka namang sapat na pera at maraming lakas ng loob, then anytime will be the best time to move to Australia, recession or not.

Kasi ang status ng AU is still hanging for now... kaya nagbabasa din talaga ako ng mga inputs nyo for consideration. thanks guys!
Hi!
May family with 2 kids na kasi ako.

I'm not expecting na makukuha ko ang sahod and position ko when I move to OZ pero sana related sa work ko ngayon.

Ang naiisip ko is magobserve muna until next year. I don't want to risk at the moment kasi may family din ako and ok naman kami sa SG. The main reason why we want to move to OZ is for the future of our family like any other of us here... in short long term na ang plan namin where we can retire, and let our kids grow which we think is best for them is OZ.

Ito naman ang isang question pa... since may expiration ang PR visa for 5yrs (alteast 2yrs to stay and work in OZ). Ano ang magiging implication sa amin ito? hindi na kami makakarenew ng PR visa? meaning do we have to leave OZ and go back to SG or Pinas? May case na ba kayo na ganito? Salamat sa inyo mga inputs.

Kahit nag-expire na yung initial 5-year visa na na-grant, as long as you are In Australia, you are still an Australian Permanent Resident…

Pero kapag lumabas kayo ng Australia, after that 5-year validity, you need to apply and be approved a RRV (Return Resident Visa) to enter Australia again as a PR.

    @KillerQT @wizardofOz .
may i add, may nakalagay sa resident return application form na have you stayed in australia for minimum 2yrs if not give explanation. mas maigi cguro na mag wait and see, save and job hunt while outside oz during the first three years of your visa and then move. mahirap na baka di tangapin ang exlanation natin.

In my opinion no one knows the future except God. No one will never know, how slow is slow and how high is high. Will it recover or not? is there actually need to be recovered from?

Everyday we hear fears in news, "mahirap humanap ng trabaho ngayon..." "sa panahon ngayon kelangan dalawa na trabaho..." "hirap makahanap ngayon ng trabaho sa Singapore etc." "Naghihigpit nadaw Dubai ngayon" It never ends! The fact that Immi did not increase the points needed for visa 189, it means they still need manpower, and they find the skilled work visa is effective for so many years.

Bottomline is risk out! Trust in the lord, let God be God.

    Sa tingin ko po....

If you have a PR visa:
    1. The time to MOVE is NOW if:
    a. You are about to earn more even with an only an Odd Job.
    b. You have a job offer regardless of earning less or more.
    c. You have tons of money for living expenses and training.

    2. If you are about to earn less with an Odd job because you dont have a job offer yet.
    for minimum risks.
    a. Move only until you satisfy 1-b.
    b. Move only until you satisfy 1-c.
    c. Move before PR visa expires and make sure to save as much as possible before
    moving.

    I welcome any suggestions or non-violent reactions/constructive critisism. :)

There are always risks involved in making decisions, that's why we have to be very careful on what we decide on and the basis for our decisions. Migrating to Australia still possess a bigger gain than negatives
. Sure, we will not be able to do what we normally do here in the Philippines but with perseverance and hardwork we will topple that over. Australia's economy is among the worlds best and they have natural resources to support that. They on a down turn now because of the world crisis brought about by China's starving economy but like any economy, it will bounce back slowly but surely. If you want to consider timing then that could also be a good option but consider the constant upgrades of imigration policies, prices and the rising numbers in migrants. Too soon maybe better than too late (2017 - 2020).

If you've been to the worst then you need not fear that you cannot get through this, Filipinos are born and bred fighters - we thrive on the harshes conditions. The best we can give ourselves is the chance to become better and be on a better plattform. If you have goals of a better life then stick to it, if you cannot obtain it here then don't change it but rather change your plans.

Migrate, why not? but come prepared both financially, physically and emotionally - read about moving into Australia, ask your relatives or friends living in Australia if it's a good idea then plan eveything from assessment, taking the IELTS and the whole VISA application because it takes more than personal will to do all of these. You will have to really decide and put your heart and mind into it.

More importantly, we should focus on what is our main purpose for migrating. Personally, I intend to migrate for my children's future, Education being my top consideration. I believe Australia can also offer far more better living environment, culture, perpective and general life comfort than the Philippines (Traffic, corruption, flooding, crime rate, rising cost of living, pollution, job availabiltiy, education, lifestyle etc).

Hi @J_oz, my question is will age affect the move to australia? I been a programmer for 10 years here in pinas, I'm planning to apply and eventually move to australia, I'm in my mid 30's do you think i'll find it hard to land a job considering my age regardless of the experience? Being a programmer yourself I know you're the most appropriate to answer my Question. thanks.

@louieg I've worked for an australian company and ung napansin ko actually madami sa kanila na kahit older ay doing technical stuff. Unlike dito sa pinas na ambabata mabilis umangat to PM, BA/SA or lead roles. So as @J_Oz mentioned, if you have the skills and are qualified, ihihire ka nila regardless of age.
But it relation to this thread's topic, mababa ang attrition rate doon coz they try to hold on to their jobs kasi naooutsource na dito sa pinas, so possibility din na tumatanggap sila ng projects na maaaring lower role but they still stick it out wih their company to get their benefits, super etc and hope na umayos ang situation in the future. Nagcomment kasi sila na sa phil office people are fast to pack their bags kahit konting yanig lang, or pagna dissolve proj then nalipat to a temp role na pangit, alsabalutan agad and lipat, ang volatile daw...
