I'm a java developer, currently in Melbourne for 3 months now...still looking for opportunities. Usually, sa SEEK ako nag-aapply...then sa LinkedIn din may mga recruiters na tumatawag.

I think in-demand ang Front End developer dito sa Melbourne, HTML5/CSS3, Javascript (jQuery, AngularJS, etc.), so currently inaaral ko din yung mga required technologies na nakikita ko sa job ads to get higher chance na mainvite for interview.

nasa 10yrs na ako sa IT/Java, pero for the past 4 years more on deployment ang ginagawa ko so kailangan ko i-review mga bago technologies related sa Java. I had 1 interview na last week pero di ako natanggap.

Pagdasal natin na makapagwork ka na. Ako 6 years palang. Pero solid naman experience. Wala pa ako sa OZ nag titingin palang kung pano ang market ng java dyan.

ang konti pala naten mga java devs.

I'm 9+ yrs in the financial industry (bank, insurance) doing web apps built in Spring/Hibernate. Hopefully in-demand ang ganito sa Sydney (since na invent ni Rod Johnson un Spring).

recently me naggain na rin ako ng javascript skills with ExtJS, sana maging pluspoints ito sa job hunting...

Got my grant only last Dec, I'll be flying to Sydney by mid Feb or early March. currently trying my luck by applying for jobs while still in the Philippines.

any suggestions or comments on technical job interviews / tests?
what are good banks (aside from the big 4) or financial companies to apply in Sydney?

@m0t0k0 regarding javascript. I too have recent experience with ExtJS kaso hindi siya masyadong in demand dito. Mas in demand ung ibang JS frameworks.

And if you're going to ask me kung anong companies? Applyan mo lahat hehe

@m0t0k0 congratulations sa visa grant and good luck sa job applications. Mukhang maraming job openings ngayong ganitong month lalo na sa Sydney. Sa Melbourne di ko masabi kasi nung 2014, 8 months akong naghanap ng java related jobs pero walang tumanggap sakin. Nag-move ako sa Sydney january last year then nakapagstart ako ng work nung March as contractor sa CBA. I'm in Dubai for a 3 month assignment and will be back to Sydney this week. I'll try to look for another company in case walang maibigay na client itong company ko pagbalik ko sa Australia.

Sa interview depende, minsan napakabasic ng questions, minsan detalye sa hanap nilang technology. May mga companies na kailangan mo mag take ng online exam (codility sa ING Direct, IKM assessment, etc) so pwede mo ipractice din yun. Meron take home coding assignment, yung iba meron combination of tech exams (java, sql, js, etc) na meron pang coding exam na may oras. May mga questions din about bank experience kung ano ginawa mo.

Ang tip lang, applyan lahat habang wala pang job offer. Goodluck!

thanks @glennc for sharing your experience. congrats on your CBA job, one of the big four banks in OZ! your setup is very much something I am dreaming of, where the job will send me as expat in different countries such as Dubai. Before getting my visa grant, I was trying to get a job in SG, as I visited it once for vacation and really liked the country, food and culture. But now that I have the PR visa, I suppose I will never get to try to work in SG (even just a year would have been great) and will be doing the big adventure to OZ in a few weeks.

As for the test, yeah I did take IKM last year for Commerz bank, one of the SG roles that I tried to apply, although did not push through as the company was waiting for me to visit the country to interview in person.

btw, sa Melbourne ba ndi ka nakahanap, and ung pag lipat sa Sydney was because mas maraming Java roles na hiring? if I may ask, ilang years na un experience mo in total?

@m0t0k0 yeah nung 2014 sa Melbourne 3 months ako naghintay sa 1st face to face interview. Mas konti dun opening ng java that time. And 8 months na wala pa din nangyari so I decided to move to SYD. Sa Sydney marami ako face to face interview at exam and within 2 months nakakuha ako ng job. I got 10+ years of experience pero not pure java because I worked on deployment/release ng java applications din for 3 years bago nagmigrate.

@glennc wow, so sa java ka parin ngayon? hindi java napasukan ko ngayon e, pero analyst programmer parin. Hindi pa nakakachamba ng java haha pero dami rin ako face to face interview.

Wala masyado pumapansin sa application ko online, except sa mga companies na nagooffer ng 457 rin.

Guys ang big data hdp certificate ba may bearing sa nomination or sa paghanap ng trabaho? In demand ba sya? Certified hadoop dev kasi ang kakilala plus 2 oracle platform certifications, just checking if these can give him a bit of an edge in his nomination and job hunting.
