Internet service provider in Melbourne

bluezaidobluezaido MelbournePosts: 48Member
Hi, magtatanong lang about kung anong experience nyo with Internet service providers (e.g. TPG) dito sa Melbourne? At kung ano marerecommend nyo na din. I found TPG as the cheapest option, ADSL2+ internet and 59$ (ata), pero andami nilang bad reviews. Foxtel naman medyo mahal, papatak ng 100$. Meron pa bang ISPs bukod sa TPG at Foxtel na marerecommend nyo?

Thanks!

Hi @bluezaido. I'm on Telstra and quality is good. ADSL2 ako now. 16mbps download...

When I moved to Aus, I have not read enough to know yung different connections. Sa SG kasi, it's fibre and you just need to select a speed plan. Dito may ADSL, ADSL2, Cable, Wireless, and different flavours ng NBN. Para lang you won't make the same mistake as me, start by going to the websites of the different providers and check your address and see what's the best type of internet they can offer you. Ako kasi, with Optus before, they told me ADSL2 lang. So all along I was looking for good ADSL2 options. But when I checked with Telstra, yung house ko pala was capable of Cable internet. Which is almost as good as NBN.

If you're on ADSL, you will always be limited by how far you are from the interchange.

I had TPG ADSL2 internet installed sa friend ko. I went with the same TPG pero iba results sa akin. Horrific. I moved to Optus then ganun din. Then Telstra on cable and it was good. So ika nga, sa experience ko, the provider wasn't the best indicator of performance. The type of internet was.

hi @quicksilver thanks for the response! I applied for TPG ADSL2+ (ata). So far ok naman sila pero I napansin ko ang baba ng upload speed. 13mbps ang download and <1mbps ang upload speeds based sa speedtest.net. TPG kasi ung pinakamura na na-search ko so far at nakita ko din sa site na to:

    https://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au/

Not sure how legit the site is.

Can I ask how much yung sa Telstra Cable connection mo?

hi @bluezaido. i started with telstra on cable at $99. when i moved to another address na adsl2 lang, i unfortunately had to pay the same amount kahit downgrade na ng service. but itong final move namin, i went to a property with nbn to premise and i moved my telstra service ulit. kaso telstra has speed tiers so akin yata yung slowest speed (16+ down 4+ up). i applied for myrepublic din and ang saya ng internet speed. 80+ down, 30+ up. sabay ko ginamit ang telstra and myrepublic sa nbn box ko. now i will terminate my telstra contract and stay with myrepublic na lang. myrepublic on nbn at max (100 speed) is $69.

upload speeds of 1 mbps is a limitation of the technology. ika nga, kahit na anong provider, if you're on adsl, then you can't get more than 1mbps.

that site you referred to is legit.
