@maxihealth34 just curious as to why the change of course? kasi mas madali ang pathway ng nurses to permanent residency compared to social work. well, unless if gusto mo lang tlga mg study ng masters in socia work then uwi lng sa Ph and dont have any plans of staying long term

@kymme as Queensland kasi kag mag study ka nang master of social work and after u grad maka kita ka nang full time work at least 1 year makaka apply kana ng PR thru state nomination. Is it true na mas madali mag pa PR as nurse kesa Social worker?

@divergent Kailangan mo ng positive skills assessment for an occupation in the MLTSSL or STSOL lists kung gusto mo mag-apply for a skilled visa (189, 190, 489). If magpapa-assess ka as social worker and hindi related yung course mo sa Australia sa social work, have you checked if yung current qualifications and skills mo sufficient to meet yung requirements ng assessing body for social work?

@divergent u can only claim points for PR for Australian education if at least 2 years ka mag aaral OR sa regional area ka mag aaral

@divergent kung kaya mo naman makuha yung 7.0 na score sa IELTS at nasa 70 points naman score mo for visa subclass 189 dun ka na lang po. For PR na po yun. Yun nga lang need muna magpa assess sa AASW and have positive result.

@divergent just be mindful that student Visa is a long and expensive pathway with no guarantee of success especially these days. A lot of overseas students get stuck and at times dead end for them. Been there done that, mine is one of those successful stories but not everyone would be as lucky. It’s very expensive and no way you can survive on a 20 hour per week Work rights. I was fortunate to have parents to support me though. As a migration agent now, despite the fact that I’m a product of such pathway, I still wouldn’t recommend this option.

@divergent To add to the advice of the others, tantyahin mo kung ilan yung points mo as of now.

@divergent @maguero not only that, a lot of things can happen within 2 years. Highly likely by the time you’ve satisfied the 2 year study requirement, rules would have changed by then. It’s possible you’d miss out on your chances. I nearly missed mine back then buti na lang I had an agent guiding me otherwise I would have not had any clue and would have not made it. It’s very risky, I’m not sure how much I could emphasise it.

@divergent Pwede ka naman po magpa assess. Mag take ka na muna po IELTS, Acad. Dapat 7.0 score mo each test.

@divergent there is no right or wrong decision. All these is very individual. I myself am just not a fan of student visa pathway based on both my personal and professional experience/knowledge. I just believe it isn’t the best way to get to Australia permanently. I could even offer such as part of my services but I don’t. Education agencies every now and then would invite me for tie ups where I would get commissions from the tuition fees students pay - that’s how it works with institutions in Australia, they pay huge commissions to education agencies from the fees students pay. I don’t even entertain such invites as I feel it’s somehow exploiting innocent students. I hope you didn’t have to go through an education agent though.

Anyway, wish you the best and hoping all would work out for you.

Im supposed to push thru with Master of Social Work. I have the money from my savings and investment but 2Million alone for tuition is insane. I decided to work again as nurse then i will apply later in Australia. This pathway is very risky indeed.

@maxihealth34 good luck sa pathway na balak natin tahakin. risky talaga, pero sabi nga, you can't get anywhere in life without taking risks. hope to be working with you as a social worker someday.

Social Work profession is highly employable in Australia these days but it requires eligibility for membership of Australian Association of Social Work (AASW). Those with international qualification should be a registered/licensed Social Worker in the country of origin with an IELTS Acad score of 7 across all test components. No other English test is accepted.

Going back to the topic. Taking Master of Social Work in Australia is impractical, it doesn’t guarantee employment after completion unless you are a certified/licensed Social Worker in the Philippines and eligible to be a member of AASW.

But if I were to choose between Nursing and Social work for easier PR pathway, I’d choose Social Work – no tedious registration, no bridging program, very in demand in state nomination, few applicants in EOI pool. Membership to AASW is straightforward.

@divergent to tell you honestly, wala. Puro mga nurses ang kilala ko. May niece akong senior HS na BS Social Work ang ipapakuha ko dito sa pinas instead of nursing. I worked in SA govt before and saw the potential of Social Work's high employability in Australia's workforce for the next 10 years.

i am a social worker working in a govt here in the Philippines. 2 years ago i considered migrating to Australia for opportunities. However, due to the requirement of IELTS which need to be 7 in all bands i am unable to proceed with my plans and the registration with AASW. Yes, SW have better chances of being selected in the eoi due to limited number of applicants.
