this is a big NO for me. there's a reason why they put an assessing body and follow it in claiming points. maybe some people got their grant last time but the current system is much more stringent.

10. EMPLOYMENT
Work experience must be at a professional ICT level and relevant to the nominated occupation (ANZSCO) to be assessed as suitable.
Only employment completed after the date you have met the ACS suitability criteria will be counted as Skilled Employment and eligible for migration points.
Work experience used to meet the suitability criteria is NOT counted as Skilled Employment and NOT eligible for migration points.

My point is only Dept of Home Affairs can ONLY decide your number of work experience.
ACS is just an SKILLS ASSESSING AUTHORITY, they evaluate and count your work experience ONLY for suitability of positive migration assessment. ACS has nothing to do with claiming points on skilled migration work experience. Dept of Home Affairs has a rule, we all should stick to that rule.

During my time, ACS gave me 5 yrs experience and I claimed 8 yrs for DIRECTLY and CLOSELY related to my occupation (15 pts) on work experience. Hindi lang ako, marami kami, ok naman na-visa grant kami lahat. Mas COMPLICATED noon ang assessment compared now kasi mas straightforward ngayon.

@pissedball I agree to what you’ve mentioned. The only thing about claiming Work experience without being formally assessed by the skills assessing authority is the danger of overclaiming points which may lead to Visa refusal in the end. This is risky especially when one is doing a DIY application.

As What @patotoy mentioned, assessing authorities are there to help applicants formally claim What is due. If one isn’t prepared to risk things, I strongly suggest to have all skilled work experience assessed.

From a professional perspective, I would advise an applicant of the possible repercussions if he decides to claim Work experience without formal assessment.

Question guys,page nag expire pa yung membership mo sa ACS void na din yung assessment sayo? Need ba irenew pa sya if di ka pa nainvite? TIA

@Emp.T I think this depends, if there's no change happened on your employment history since the day you're qualifications were assessed up to this time, you can use ACS even though it's already expired, but you must submit additional docs like payslips etc. to prove that you're still connected to the company that ACS used to assess. HTH.

@Emp.T ACS membership has a lifetime validity with auto-renewal every year so long you pay yearly membership fee and completing 20 CPD hours (Certified Technologist), 30 hrs Certified Professional. Your skills assessment has nothing to with ACS membership. Obtaining positive skills assessment doesn't grant you a membership. You need to apply for that with a different process.

As for positive skills assessment, ACS states result letters are valid for 2 years from the date of issue. Immigration can only decide if they accept an expired skills assessment (which according to previous visa grantees, immigration accepts expired result should there be no change in circumstances). Normally, immigration doesn't refuse visa on expired skills assessment, they usually give you time to comply.

I agree. Claiming points on work experience must be a decision-ready. One has to prove its legitimacy with strong supporting documents upon claiming. But as I can see most of the ACS applicants, they only concentrate on skills assessment which I believe is only a portion of skilled migration. Dept of Home Affairs has its straightforward rules so my I advice to all applicants is to READ comprehensively the Booklet #6 of Skilled Migration to see the whole picture.

Going back to the topic, if TRA and VETASSESS recommend points on work experience, ACS doesn't. ACS even posted a disclaimer that work experience awarded CANNOT count as points in skilled migration although DHA can use it as a reference for DIRECTLY AND CLOSELY RELATED work experience matter.

Hi,

Just a question. My girlfriend is an IT project manager with 5 years and 7 months of IT experience .Her college course is not IT related ( She is a business management graduate ) .

- Given that she worked as an IT proj manager, can she apply as a systems analyst or a business analyst for her ACS assessment?

- How many years do you think will be deducted from her experience given that she is not an IT graduate?

Hoping for your kind assistance and answering my inquiries regarding ACS.

@pissedball not so sure about the whole process, but I guess if you go with SC 190 or 489 some states requires you to undergo assessment under respective assessment bodies.

@pmond That would depend if the TOR has enough unit/subjects to qualify either as an ICT minor, major or insufficient. The number of years to meet the skill requirement met date can be as low as 2 years for an ICT major (generally IT degree + IT work) or up to 8 years for those with no bachelors and need an RPL.

The ANZSCO entry lists the units that ACS deems as closely related for that occupation.

@Supersaiyan all states require that you meet the visa eligibility. That also includes your skills to have been assessed by a skills assessing authority.

May naka experience na po ba sainyo mag update ng ACS assessment? Meron na po ako before pero i need to update it. If mag uupdate po ba ako do I need to file a new application for ACS assessment ?

@pmond what kind of update? If changing the nominated occupation then you have to re-apply all over again. If you have work experience added, no need for informing ACS. What is important is you have a positive skills assessment. Claiming work experience points is a DHA matter.

i just do not want to give risky advice so i follow what's on the assessment. it depends how you want to risk the opportunity to be in Australia. it depends on how you see it. if you're ok with those risk, go ahead, if not, follow the proper assessment results and it will give you "peace of mind".

@patotoy I totally agree. The thing is, one thing to consider is that each case is very individual since everyone has their own and unique circumstance. Not because it worked for someone doesn’t mean it will work for all. We’ve handled so much cases and each of them are different from the other. Biggest mistake is to assume that same thing will apply. There are a lot of things to consider even before providing any advice. Especially for a qualified migration agent, it’s part of ethical practice to know first the circumstance of an individual before an advice is given.

If someone is doing a DIY application, best to follow the assessment results when claiming points. Should one wishes to add further experience to be able to claim more points, at your own risk. I would strongly advise that the safest way is just to apply for re-assessment. That way, one has a written formal evidence to back up one’s claim in case the case officer would not recognise the further employment. It actually strengthens one’s claim more than anything else. Thus, giving the applicant the peace of mind. One important thing to take note in this whole process is to never assume. Best to always back things up with evidences

Ok then, I rest my case. But let me express my last piece - To all ICT professionals, don't be hard on yourself, don't deprive yourself with work experience points. We've been subject to pro-rata and I know some guys with 75 pts who haven't invited yet. I've attended so many seminars in Sydney conducted by ACS and we always discuss issues on migration and even international students are becoming inferior because of this strict capping.

Just sharing... after 49 days, finally received ACS assessment result.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from AMA Computer University completed --- has been assessed as comparable to an AQF Bachelor Degree with a Major in computing.

Yesss! Next step : EOI...

hello everyone, newbie here. I started reading through the AU process and ACS assessment and gusto ko sana makakuha ng guidance. Here's my scenario: I am an undergraduate sa AMACU - BSBA MIS. I have worked in the IT industry for the past 10 years and I am wondering kung pwede pa rin ako mgapply for assessment sa ACS then EOI if positive ang result. Ano po kaya sa palagay ninyo? Thank you.
