Moving to Melbourne soon on a PR Visa

Hi,
I am just new to this forum and eager to meet new friends. My family and I have just been recently granted a PR Visa. We will soon be flying to Melbourne and would like to get some tips from fellow members about making the move. Also, if there are some members here who will move in April, so we could meet up and at least start a new life together as friends. Thank you.

Hello shotie!

Look for a place na may madali access sa public transport. And if you want house shared, may filipinos in this forum na nagooffer. Or if you want na unit/flat for rent, check www.domain.com.au or realestate.com.au. May points system yun application for flat/unit rental.

Once you arrive, open a bank account, wala naman min deposit. Then apply for Tax file number and medicare.

Browse mo lang un mga thread na naghahanap ng kashare sa house. Or nagpaparent ng house. Meron ako kilala ngpaparent ng house pero im not sure if may public transport in the area.

About the point system, you have to provide reqts to apply. Like passport id, drivers licence in Au and others. May mga corresponding points sila. I forgot na ilan points un needed to pursue the rental application. Check mo this. Www.bellsrealestate.com.au.

Hi guys! Me, wifey, and baby are planning to move to Melbourne late March to early April (la pa set date eh). I'm ICT BA and wifey is ICT Manager (pero assessed as Software Engineer). @Shotie ah i see. About sa work, depende sa field eh. Kung in demand na work sya sa state. meron agad nakukuha, meron naman months before magkawork. Iba iba kasi ang mga experiences ng mga migrant. Madali ka na lang kung andito ka na.

Ganun eh...

Sometime you need to take a leap of faith and take calculated risk in order to hopefully attain a better future.

Ang advantage cguro ng iba is that wala pa family - I could imagine the pressure if may kids na eh! Right now, I guess it is a good time for me and wifey to move as we are still without kids.

@psychoboy yeah right. Its better to take a risk there than here. Prayers lang and hardwork. Matagal din akong natakot, but then again it is still worth trying. Ako nga, I have 2 kids pa na aged 12 and 9 but then again it is still worth risking than not at all. Its not for me as of this time, this is still for the kids.

All done na po kayo @Shotie sa requirement ninyo? Ako naman, so far we have done the ff:

(1) Bought Air Ticket
(2) Opened our account and remitted money there
(3) Secured temporary room to stay in Ormond
(4) Attended CFO Seminar

Looks like packing our stuffs nalang ang kailangan... And I think this is the hardest thing to do!

We went there mga 10AM to register; we were afraid kasi na maubusan ng slots - when we came back at 2PM, cguro mga less than 20 lang kami.

Punta ka lang sa mga websites ng banko and hanapin mo account opening for migrants - in a few days someone will call you to verify information and later on give your account details. You can use your account detail to wire money from the Philippines should you wish.

Room namin sa Ormond is $125/wk - it is just a room within a 2 bedroom unit that we will be sharing with another couple. Malapit lang daw sa train station so it should be ideal. Plus it is within sector 1 of the train network so mas mura ang gastos sa transpo!
