https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/regional-migration/eligible-regional-areas
https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skill-occupation-list/regional-postcodes
this is the catch : Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489)* – designated regional areas only apply to visa holders nominated by a State and Territory government agency whose visa was granted after** 16 November 2019**.
so in my understanding, pwede po kmi sa Gold Coast kasi recently classified na sya as Regional including Perth. I hope nga magbukas na talaga ang borders soon. God bless us all.

thank you po @Hunter_08 .. . we are praying na makuha po yung work either sa Perth or Gold Coast then apply ng travel exemption either critical or compassionate. sobrang nakaka inip na rin po kasi maghintay kung kailan magbbukas ang borders. kailangang may gawin at hindi kmi pede maghintay lang. salamat po. God bless

I will be trying out to get an exemption thru my agent. For reasons na andito na kmi UAE and it will be risky for us considering thr rising of Covid cases sa Pinas and me and my daughter are high risk individuals. I will let everyone know how it turns out.

Hi mga ka-489! May question lng po.
Mag-2 years na kasi visa namin this Sept and hindi pa rin kami nakakapag-entry.
If less than 2 years na lang ba ang validity ng visa and tumuloy pa rin sa au, may new visa ba na pwedeng apply-an para ma-extend ang stay?
Parang visa 475, 487, 495 and 496, pwede apply ng Visa 489 na extended stay pathway.
Kasi para makapag-apply ng visa 887, need at least 2 years stay and 1 year na work in au.
Salamat po sa sasagot.

there is a COVID-19 concession given to us, you can check this link : https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/skilled-regional-887#Eligibility
but still, we don't know when they will open the border for us. from what I've heard, they have closed again indefinitely.... T_T

Yung concession kasi, if mag-apply for 887 while in au, required pa rin ang 2 years of residence.

Senator Nick McKim
The full letter:
Dear Minister,
I welcome your commitment to consider the plight of existing Temporary Graduate (Subclass 485) visa holders who are stranded overseas due to the border closure.
As you may know, thousands of Subclass 485 visa holders have invested tens of thousands of dollars studying in Australia and are now watching their Subclass 485 visas rapidly run down through no fault of their own, or have already had their visas expire while they were unable to enter Australia.
Many are still paying rent, private health insurance fees and utilities in Australia. Some have become separated from their partners and/or children due to the border closure. And others still have jobs in Australia, with their employers anxiously awaiting their return.
I note that on 9 July 2020 the government automatically extended Temporary Graduate (Subclass 485) visas for Hong Kong passport holders for five years, a move that the Australian Greens wholeheartedly support.
I ask that you grant automatic visa extensions to all existing Subclass 485 visa holders who are stranded offshore due to the Covid-19 border closure. I also ask you to provide automatic visa reinstatements and extensions to people who have had their Subclass 485 visas expire while they were stranded overseas as a result of the pandemic.
More broadly, many different cohorts of visa holders have been affected by the border closure, including people on Skilled—Recognised Graduate visa (Subclass 476); Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 489); Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 491); Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457); Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482); Student Visa (Subclass 500); Work and Holiday (Subclass 462).
Some have paid thousands of dollars for their visas, waited many years for their visas to be processed, spent thousands of dollars relocating themselves and their families to Australia, have their jobs, home and lives in Australia; and now they are locked out of the country they were calling home before the borders closed. Again, through no fault of their own.
I ask you to use your discretion and extend visas for all other cohorts of time-limited visa holders that are stranded overseas and unable to enter Australia due to the border closure.
Could you please respond to this letter as a matter of urgency.
Yours sincerely
Nick McKim
Australian Greens Senator for Tasmania
