    1. sa west side of melbourne ako nag-settle kasi un work ko is nasa west din. so before moving to australia, naghanap na ako ng work, accepted the job and started looking for place to stay. sa west side, i noticed na mas madami immigrants and asians.
    3. 20 mins by train (Vline/PTV) to Southern Cross Station and 18 mins by car.

anyway, sa mga nasa AU na, kumuha pa ba kayo ng private health insurance? from what I know, may levy daw pagdating ng tax season if wala nun. can anyone enlighten me?

Yes, may additional medicare levy if you don't have private health. But this is only if you exceed the income threshold. Generally recommended pa din to get private cover.

Yes, may additional medicare levy if you don't have private health. But this is only if you exceed the income threshold. Generally recommended pa din to get private cover.

ah. new information saken hehe thank you! 😊

Yuing Medicare Levy Surcharge only happens when you dont have private health insurance, and you reach a certain threshold of the combined household income. It is well possible to reach that kung dalawa kayo nagwowork. https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals-and-families/medicare-and-private-health-insurance/medicare-levy-surcharge/medicare-levy-surcharge-income-thresholds-and-rates#ato-Incomethresholdandrates202324

But, what's more concerning is merong Lifetime Health Cover Loading na tinatawag kapag pinatagal nyo pa yung hindi pagkuha ng private health. If you are 30yo or above, every year over 30 na wala kang private health may patong na 2%. So, kung 35 ka ngayon, 5 x 2 = 10% na patong. https://www.bupa.com.au/health-insurance/why-health-insurance/tax/lifetime-health-cover

Now meron leniency na binigay for new PRs na over 30yo who just moved to Australia. Para maiwasan mo yang LHC Loading, you better take out cover within the 1st year of your residency as PR. When you register for Medicare, merong checkbox to tick to receive the LHC Letter, that's your proof of first registration to Medicare, the private health provider will require you of that. Kung hindi nyo sya napansin, that's fine, you can simply call Medicare to request for the letter per person.

We took out cover on the last month of our first year, para lang makatipid rin kahit sa unang taon :D

In an ideal world nga sana, wala na dapat private health kasi you already paid for Medicare. But thing is, may mga services na hindi pa rin talaga covered ng Medicare, like ambulance (oo, pag may emergency at wala kang private health, pagbabayarin ka ng ambulance fees after. Imagine, nagka emergency ka na nga't lahat. lol), dental, optical or commonly known as the "extras". Sulit na sulit namin yung dental and optical na yan, though meron pa rin kaming konting pay out for optical haha!

Pros and cons sya. Guess the best way to look at it, is that you are covered in both worlds - public and private health. :)

EDIT: Applies to 491 holders too. As mentioned in the replies. :)

anyway, sa mga nasa AU na, kumuha pa ba kayo ng private health insurance? from what I know, may levy daw pagdating ng tax season if wala nun. can anyone enlighten me?

Yes, may additional medicare levy if you don't have private health. But this is only if you exceed the income threshold. Generally recommended pa din to get private cover.

ah. new information saken hehe thank you! 😊

Yuing Medicare Levy Surcharge only happens when you dont have private health insurance, and you reach a certain threshold of the combined household income. It is well possible to reach that kung dalawa kayo nagwowork. https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals-and-families/medicare-and-private-health-insurance/medicare-levy-surcharge/medicare-levy-surcharge-income-thresholds-and-rates#ato-Incomethresholdandrates202324

But, what's more concerning is merong Lifetime Health Cover Loading na tinatawag kapag pinatagal nyo pa yung hindi pagkuha ng private health. If you are 30yo and above, every year over 30 na wala kang private health may patong na 2%. So, kung 35 ka ngayon, 5 x 2 = 10% na patong. https://www.bupa.com.au/health-insurance/why-health-insurance/tax/lifetime-health-cover

Now meron leniency na binigay for new PRs na over 30yo who just moved to Australia. Para maiwasan mo yang LHC, you better take out cover within the 1st year of your residency as PR.

    +1!

Responses (based on what I know lang ah):

    (2) Yes. Yung extras ay mostly yung mga "extra" medical services talaga like general and major dental, optical, physio, mental healty, chiro, etc.

    (3) Yup, okay naman na talaga ang medicare. Nag-private insurance lang din talaga ako for tax purposes and a little extra coverage for ambulance and dun sa dental/optical services.

    Questions:
    (1) Yung basic without extras for example sa bupa, comparable ba sa coverage ng medicare?

    • Naur (lol).

    • Naur. Generally, yung medicare is for everyday use (lol ano daw), more on GP mga lagnat-laki ganyan. Yung private health mo is for the extras (ambulance, dental, optical, etc), more importantly for hospitalisation talaga sya, and major operations as long as covered ng insurance na kinuha mo. So expect aligaga, pila to get the care that you need, and all. So, it depends kung san ka talaga nagpagamot. They are almost the same, but.....not really. :D

    • Naur.

    • Automatic na syang bawas dun sa presyo once you took out the private health cover. Di ko lang sure kung makikita sya sa tax return kasi first year pa lang namin ngayon with private health. Balitaan kita sa October lol.

Thank you, @haringkingking and @_sebodemacho (na aussie accent na).

Oh naur! 😆

Special daw kasi pag naka-ambulance, derecho emergency room hahaha.

Di ka papansinin hanggat hindi life or death situation. :D
