Hello Everyone! Just wanted to share the contact details of a wonderful person whom I have met during the Migrants' welcome dinner here in Adelaide:

Liza Dodd
Email: [email protected]

I have seen her name in the other thread but when I sent her an email, it bounced. So nung nakita ko siya hiningi ko na lang kung ano email add nya. Binigyan niya ako ng good advice kung ano gagawin ko sa insurance na nabili ko.

    Uy, ok ito ah. Tanong ko din ito pero nakakalimutan ko lang ipost.

    Bakit po pala kailngan ng private? Mas maganda ba ang private kesa sa binibigay ng Aus?

    @Lakimasel: hello po!

    for 457 visa holders, requirement to ng DIAC kasi they cannot access Medicare until they get PR.

    For PR din naman: a lot of people choose to maintain private health insurance kahit may Medicare na (so, it's over and above Medicare Australia) because of added coverage. :)

    @migik22: I am curious din po. Ano po advice niya regarding health insurance? Thanks!

    7 Jan 2013 - medical finalised

    Goggle the tv program current affairs australia, may topic sila about waiting list sa hospital like people with back problems requiring spinal surgeries if not life threatening some wait half a year to a year to get surgeries. D life threatening but means they are living in pain.

    With insurance, you can have it done privately.

    Im a 457 visa holder.. Requirement talaga on our visa to get insurance kasi not legible for publicly funded health care ang work visas.

    New p.r. Also may restrictions but at least legible to most hence insurance is still a must for those not covered by the insurance.

    Hospital coverage is free with Medicare but there is waiting time and could take several months like what @li_i_ren posted. With private health insurance, like medibank, you have the option to choose your doctor and hospital and have a shorter wait time (or may even be at your convenience). On top of this you can add dentals, optometrist , chiro etc.
    Private health doesn't come cheap though. For myself and the family, I pay around $230 per month for top coverage but it give's me a piece of mind. There are still ways to lessen the premium.

    tama ba pagkakaintindi ko dito. pag dating ng tax calculations, everyone pays the 1.5% Medicare Levy. then, if your salary meets the income threshold, you will be required to pay the additional Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS) if you don't have private health insurance (this can be maximum 1.5% depending on salary). tama ba?

    @LokiJr sorry at ngayon lang ako naka reply. Nakakuha na kasi ako ng insurance at gusto kong lumipat sa medibank. Sabi niya wag na kong lumipat kasi better ang nakuha ko.

    Hindi siya nakikipag usap lang pero tumutulong talaga siya sa mga pinoy.

    hindi ako kumuha sa medibank. Sa Bupa ako nakakuha.

    Classic Visitor's - public hospitals lang
    Silver Extras - dental, therapies, etc. hahalungkatin ko muna yung booklet mamaya.

    Ipapa alis ko din yung extras kasi mabigat sa bulsa. Tipid muna at tiisin ang ngipin na masakit.

    Pag 475 ang visa, walang 30% na rebate kasi wala namang Medicare pag temporary migrant. Nasa visitor's insurance naka classify ang coverage pag temporary.

    Sir, ok lang po ba magtanong? I am on a 457 (visitor coverage as well) and recently nag upgrade ako ng coverage. Pero pinatanggal ko yung mga extras. I'm not on Bupa pero tumitingin ako kung alin ang mas maganda.

    Tanong ko po, kung ok lang... ano pong premium binabayaran niyo monthly with Bupa? Salamat!

    @migik22: ooops, sorry :D.

    Sis, yung $300 is family coverage or single? I am around 150 single visitor. Naghahanap nga po ako ng better deal, kumbaga.

    @LokiJr yung current coverage namin, public hospital + other services like dental, opto, therapies, etc.

    For next month, ang ire retain ko na lang ay yung hospital muna. Pag mas ok na ang cash flow, dagdag ko ulit yung extras (ancillary)

    Im on tHe bupa classic visitors cover. Paying only 90 aud for me, hubby and 1 child. My husband is diabetic so we go to the gp regularly, we get refund for the gp costs, lab tests ... Just ask for an invoice with an item number. Go to the nearest bupa centre to get a claim form or have 1 mailed to u.

    Gp is considered outpatient and still covered.

    May 1 year waiting period lng for pregnancy...so definitely no kids yet! Hahahaha.

    We dont have extras to save on cost... Anyway, how often do u need glasses or go to the dentist naman. We just wemt home sa pinas couple months back.. Dentist and full check up agad before shopping or meeting families kasi mahal yan dito en:)

    Not a bad deal..
