which is the best para sa mga nakaexperience na.

    1. handcarry USD to OZ then convert to AUD
    2. convert USD to AUD in Phils. then handcarry to oz
    3. online bank transfer of USD (USD acct. in Phils.) to AUD in oz bank

let's just say the money is more than 10k USD. tia
i would'nt do #3 kung ako lang kasi mag iinncurr yan ng fees pag transfer .. better to do #2 kasi pag nag change ka ng pera dito merong fee ulit ...

    Google for Everything !!!

thanks @JCSantos. regards nga pala kay kst :D

Hindi ba malaki din ang bawas sa option #2 considering na iikot pa ang conversion from USD to Php to AUD?

If you do #2 sa Philippines - baka ma double charge ka sa FX conversion; kasi:

You sell AUD to buy PHP
You sell PHP to buy AUD

Try mo sa BPI ForEx; last I heard they have capability of doing direct conversion from USD to PHP...

Check you bank... It varies yung remittance fee! :) Usually it is a percentage of your amount remitted.

For charges in withdrawing... It varies; ako my transactional account is NAB and buttomless and allowable withdrawal (kaya lang di bottomless ang laman ng account!! :) ) - ang iba naman, may limit sa number of withdrawals.

Opened an account with Commonwealth. I filled up an online application then after 3 working days, I got a call from them confirming some of the information on the application form, followed by a 30-minute briefing about our joint account.

Still thinking about how to put money in that account though. Commonwealth charges $11 for receiving money via wire, regardless the amount. Aside from the cash we'll be bringing in (less than 10K AUD), I'm thinking of withdrawing cash from Citibank ATM in Australia, using my Citibank SG card and depositing that cash into our Commonwealth account. I'm afraid though the exchange rate will not be on my favour.

Kung bank transfer kaya from SG bank to Commonwealth Australia? Anong bank kaya ang ok?

I used DBS - all the charges are posted in their website... Okey naman ang FX rate nila and their is a A$5 charge upon receipt of money here in Australia.

@TasBurrfoot, master, we opened an account sa Commonwealth Bank... tinawagan na rin kami ng person in charge for migrants (with her thick NSW accent, whew... LOL). Do we need to maintain a monthly balance (for ex. AUD 600) every month, or no need na po?
    Thanks in advance :-)

Depende yan sa account na in-open mo but it should have been discussed with you by the one who called from CBA when they opened the account.

Ours did not have a maintaining; we opened the GoalSaver Acct...

Sa CBA, magkaiba ang Smart access account and Goal Saver/netbank Savings account. The former requires a monthly deposit of 2K AUD (otherwise may 4AUD charge), while the latter does not require any maintaining/deposit amount...

Smart access ang kelangan for payroll and medicare. Kase it will basically allow other people/institutions to deposit sa account mo.. Yung Savings account kase, ikaw lang pde maglagay ng pera don via your smart access (dapat linked sya sa smart access sa pagkakaintindi ko).

Sounds complicated? hehehe ako rin nalilito na! :D

Well, pwede naman mag-transfer ng pera from outside sa goal saver account - this is where we transferred our money from Singapore. Malaki kasi interest dito sa Goal Saver! :)

Di na namin pinadaan sa smart access account... DBS Singapore to CBA Goal Saver kaagad and wala naman problem.

@TasBurrFoot actually hindi rin ako ngtransfer from offshore to Au.. heheh ang tinutukoy ko kase ung bank account na pde magdeposit ang other agencies to your account like for payroll. Pde rin ba goal saver for that? not sure if goal saver tong na-open ko with cba. lol pero yeap mlaki interest.

@khaosan nku hindi nga rin mlaki baon ko, nasagad pa nga kase mga 3 weeks delayed sweldo tapos ngbbayad ako childcare that time heheh
Yup pwede ang Goal Saver... It has a BSB naman and the acct number so pwede ma-credit sweldo mo dito.

Only smart access account has an ATM; ang goal saver is an internet based account meaning you can directly get physical cash from it - if you want to withdraw your money from the goal saver account, you need to transfer it first to another account with atm.

    Hope this helps @staycool! :)
