    passed one hurdle... :D

    @sonsi_03 I'm still waiting for my ACS result.. :D

    There's really a need to put effort and time in preparing for the exam. It helps to start thinking in English.... as simple as sending messages to your friends in full English contributes a lot (no shortcuts/Taglish). You're friends might laugh about it but it is a way in building one's confidence.

    I would just like to drop by and say thank you to all those who shared their inputs, useful links and documents in this forum. It helped me a lot in preparing for my IELTS exam last September 21.

    Got the result:
    Listening: 8.5
    Reading: 8.5
    Writing: 7.0
    Speaking: 8.0

    I would have wanted to have an 8 for all but still thankful, thinking there is no need for me to retake the exam.

    Practice is really the key. Give as much time to train on writing essay. The site www.writefix.com helped a lot in having the foundation on how to compose essays.

    All the best to the rest who will take the exam.

    Winner scores mo! Congrats!

    @michel_75 thank you po. Nov 9 po ako. Kayo po? Ayun nga medyo nahirapan din ako paiksiin. Mostly mga essay na nagawa ko ang hahaba. Kahit po yung letter writing umaabot ako ng more than 200 words..
    @ozdreamer123 - you can get tips from Simon-Ielts website. I think you just need to simplify your intro and summary to shorten your essay. Just concentrate on the main paragraphs because this is where the bulk of your score will come from.

    @btarroja213 hello! I tried to read tips from the website that you suggested. Now I came up with a short letter with only 156 word count..

    -----------
    WRITING TASK 1

    One of your friends has asked you to be a partner in his new business.

    Write a letter to reply to your friend’s offer. In your letter

    • Give your opinion of your friend’s business idea
    • Tell him whether or not you have decided to accept his offer
    • And explain your reasons for this decision.

    ----------

    Dear Marie,

    I hope everything is going well with you. I received your letter last week about your invitation to make me as your partner in your new coffee shop business. I find your idea very interesting.

    Although I knew that your business proposal is very competitive and given the fact that it is strategically located in the place with high traffic of professionals, I am really sorry but I have to turn down your offer.

    As you know, I just built my own house last year and I am currently facing a financial trouble. This prevents me to venture in your suggestion because I do not have any money to invest.

    Despite this, I still hope to have business with you in the future. I will surely let you know once my financial capacity goes back to normal.

    I wish to speak to you soon. Also, please extend my regards to your family.

    Love,
    Liza

    Would be good for you to practice writing letters with a minimum number of words requirement. They normally require a minimum of 150 words for letters. It would be best to put in a buffer as we're really not sure what they consider as words (I & a may not be, who knows).

    @mhej In claiming the 20 points for IELTS, does each four parts should have at least an eight band score? I thought that they are after the OBS of 8? Thanks

    I also got my result. I got my desired result after my 3rd try, thank God.
    L - 8.5
    R - 8.5
    W - 8.0
    S - 7.0

    This was really a shock for me because the writing exam and the speaking exam was really difficult for me. I was more confident on my 2 previous exam but I always failed to get 7.0+ in all of the module.

    Hello, can someone check my essay

    WRITING TASK 2

    Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic.

    " Fatherhood ought to be emphasized as much as motherhood. The idea that a women is solely responsible for deciding whether or not to have babies leads to an idea that they are also responsible for bringing the children up."

    To what extent do you agree or disagree?

    You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
    ========================================================

    Here's my essay:

    Children are blessings from God, they are the product of reproduction of two individuals. Offsprings has the right to be properly raised by two responsible people, such as parents.

    Mostly people has a dream of having a family of their own and it is composed of a mother, a father and a child. Some of us believe that in the absence of any of these human beings, is not considered as a family. It can also be argued that in some instances, which our beyond our control, such as separation of couples or voiding their marriage vows, is not a hindrance in raising individuals like our children in the most holistic approach.

    However, we can never deny the fact that paternal love is irreplaceable by a motherly love, both has it's own meaning and has a huge effect towards child's behavior and perception in life. Fatherhood has a different level of responsibilities, approach and contributions in nurturing their children's future as compared to motherhood.

    In addition to that there are some aspects in building child's characters, that can never be substituted by a mother's way, such as manly talks, reasoning and other intellect that only men understands and conveys.

    Ultimately we have to consider that people has different points and views in deciding whether couples are ready to have a baby, both parents must have a clear state of mind, when entering into this big responsibility in their lives. I believe that Father's has an equal importance, as of the mother's in bringing up and taking care of their children. They have an obligation to sustain and enrich the lives of their child, to become an individual that has the value of building a good family, thus empowering them to have a significant role and be a good members of the society.

    ==============================================
    Kindly check this essay of mine, for any errors. Thanks!

    I agree with putting a little buffer for the number of words in essays. They count the number of unique words. For instance, if you use the word "agree" 5 times, it is only counted as 1. That is why you should use appropriate synonymns in ielts essays...

    BTW, I, is, am, etc... are considered as words and are counted as such...

    @sonsi_03 - Are you still planning to retake? Why not take it at IDP? I heard they are more forgiving than BC.

    @mhej

    Congrats! Though nakakahinayang yung Writing. 1 more point, 20 points na sana sa IELTs. hehe.
    @mhej In claiming the 20 points for IELTS, does each four parts should have at least an eight band score? I thought that they are after the OBS of 8? Thanks
    Ang alam ko po you need to get at least an 8 in all of the four parts to claim for 20 points. Madali lang kasi ata makakuha ng OBS na 8 lalo if you get at least an 8.5 in maybe 2 of the 4 parts. Pero as long as may 7 below ka, 10 points claim lang ang pagkakaalam ko.

    I remember someone who scored 9-9-8.5-7 and only got to claim for 10 points.

    Not sure though if that rule has changed.

    Hello everyone! Here's another writing task letter that I wrote. Feel free to criticize it. I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much! :)

    -----
    There have been some problems with public transport in your area recently.
    Write a letter to the manager of the transport company. In your letter:
    a. Describe the problems
    b. Explain how these problems are affecting the public
    c. Suggest some changes that could be made
    -----
    Dear Sir or Madam:

    I am writing with regard to the late arrival of LRT Trains in Manila Station recently. I would like to bring this matter to your attention as I am confident that you could handle this complain.

    As posted in the LRT Information Desk, the schedule for the arrival of train in Manila Station should begin at 6:00 in the morning. Furthermore, the interval time of each train should also be every fifteen (15) minutes. Unfortunately, that never happened in the past few weeks.

    As you know, majority of the commuters are working. This matter is causing us many inconveniences in going to our destination. Many of us report for work very late even though we leave our home very early. As a result, our attendance is now suffering. We might face trouble in losing our work which we really cannot afford. Also, some passengers opt to try the other public transportations such as bus and taxi. However, we find these options very expensive on our part, especially for someone like me who only earns a minimum wage.

    I would like to suggest that you provide more trains to ensure that the established train schedules can strictly be followed. In addition to that, we will really appreciate if you inspect by yourself the real problems as to what are preventing these trains to arrive at the station on time.

    I hope that you will take this matter urgently.

    Yours faithfully,
    Name Surname

    Hello, can someone check my essay

    WRITING TASK 2

    Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic.

    " Fatherhood ought to be emphasized as much as motherhood. The idea that a women is solely responsible for deciding whether or not to have babies leads to an idea that they are also responsible for bringing the children up."

    To what extent do you agree or disagree?

    You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
    ========================================================

    ==============================================
    Kindly check this essay of mine, for any errors. Thanks!

    Hello, as per sa grammar book, you should only use "SUCH" if your listing an examples. So my suggestion, instead of "such as parents" to "like parents"..

    @ozdreamer123

    Consider the following changes:

    3rd paragraph:
    As you know, majority of (us) commuters are working.
    (You must be consistent with you pronouns and subject)

    4th paragraph:
    I would like to suggest that you provide more trains to ensure that the established train schedules (are) strictly followed. In addition to that, we will really appreciate if you (personally) inspect the (situation and find out what are) preventing these trains to arrive at the station on time.
