Hi, I'm an Aussie living in Sydney. Just joined here, to ask a question. I want to send a box containing a second hand oscilloscope, as a gift to a friend living on the island of Bohol, Philippines.
The box weight: 8Kg, size: 50 x 57 x 24 cm.
By Australia post Express Post International it will cost $132.30 (Has signature on delivery and tracking.) My Filipino friend can't currently afford that postage, and it's a bit much for me too.
Does anyone know a cheaper way to get such a box to him? Speed does not matter, but making sure it's not dropped or vanished, does. I can put in about $50 and he has P1,200.
Another problem is he is unable to find out the formula for Philippines import duty. He seems to think government Customs just make up a value to pay, but I doubt it. It would be good to know how the fee is decided. Based on box size? Weight? Item value? What?
How do I find this information?
