Visa 189/190 - Chef Occupation

smllantosmllanto AustraliaPosts: 1Member
Hi!

I am new to this forum and here to seek help and advice about my interest in applying for the Visa 189/190.

I have a Bachelors Degree in HRIM (Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management - Major in Culinary Arts) from De La Salle - College Of Saint Benilde, I have almost 5 years of experience in the kitchen, (2 yrs international, 3yrs in the Philippines), I am 26 yrs old and I am currently in Brisbane, Australia on a 402 Visa (Training and Research) completing my Chef Training. I am heading back home to Manila in a few weeks and is keen on coming back to Australia ASAP, not only to continue a career but also a life in Australia.

I have done a bit of reading and research and would just like to ask is Visa 189/190 the best option for me? Where do I start?

Thank you! :)

Hey @smllanto fellow chef here, start with your skills assessment (VETASSESS) as soon as you land in Manila. 189 and 190 is definitely the best option. Ensure that your job descriptions match the ANZSCO Chef 351311 job requirements and you'll be good to go. Gather all your required documents and send to the assessment body. Assessments take 14-16 weeks.

While awaiting your VETASSESS results, take your English language exams, aim for 7 each band or more (IELTS) or take PTE (easier as others say)

If you feel that you will be lacking points in the EOI for 189 (60 minimum but you will have to wait long for an invite), select a sponsor state and hand in requirements in their respective websites (190). Otherwise, feel free to send in an EOI for 189 and the waiting games begin.

Just to add. Yung hubby ko po ang chef and main applicant. His skills assessment was assessed by William Angliss (SG based) meron din daw sila branch sa manila.. if sa SG ang assessment was only face to face interview. Still ensure to gather all the required docs..
If sa William Angliss (manila) ka.. face to face at practical daw assessment..
We got invited for VIC SS 190 w only 60pts in total. We lodge our visa onshore and currently awaiting for the result.

Note that CSB is under section 2 so you can only claim 10 points unless 2.0 or higher yung average grade mo. You remind me of myself as that was somehow the same pathway I took many years ago. Same uni (main), completed training in Sydney and same age as you. No work experience required pa noon. I never used those skills except in my own kitchen after hehe....years forward, I became a citizen at age 30, travelled the world without much visa restrictions, lived in other countries (Germany, UK) and been assisting people as a registered agent in chasing their Australian dream - keeping a promise to myself to only charge reasonable and fair fees as I know how it likes, my way of giving back the blessings I've had since I made it to Australia. All the best to you. Definitely one of the best decisions you will ever make in your life.

Wow @RheaMARN1171933 , Good on you to get a citizenship. Lived in Aus for 4 years since 2008 but citizenship is a no go since I'm always going back and forth to the Philippines. Sayang, PR na sana.
