Analytics/Data Science jobs with visa sponsorship

Hello po! New member here! Just curious kung sino po dito yung may mga ganitong job roles:

  1. Data Scientist
  2. Data Analyst
  3. Analytics Consultant

My questions lang po:

  1. If you're already in Australia, how were you able to get there? Was it through the 189/190 visas or employer sponsorship (TSS)?
  2. Was it easy finding the job role and how were you able to find it? (e.g. Seek, Indeed, LinkedIn, purely connections, etc.)
  3. In the Skilled Occupation List (SOL), what did you choose? Was it Statistician, ICT Business Analyst, Analyst Programmer, etc.?
  4. Do you think finding jobs that provide visa sponsorship nowadays (2021; pandemic season) is hard, especially in the IT/Analytics industry?

I'm leaning towards this route po kasi (sponsorship), instead of the 189/190 visa pathways kasi ang dami kong nakikita na umaabot ng at least 2 years before they got granted. I'm not sure din of the demand in this job type/industry. Would love to get some insights, especially from ones in this industry. Maraming salamat po in advance!

  • Aug 05: Identified my occupation in the skills list; ended up choosing Statistician (224113) because it's the most relevant
  • Aug 18: VETASSESS -- Started collecting all of the necessary documents needed for skills assessment
  • Sep 12: VETASSESS -- Submitted my application to VETASSESS
  • Sep 14: VETASSESS -- Status changed to "Lodged"
  • Sep 16: VETASSESS -- They asked for a clearer copy of my diploma
  • Sep 20: VETASSESS -- Status changed to "In Progress"
  • Oct 04: PTE -- Booked my exam schedule
  • Nov 18: PTE -- Exam date; also on the same day (after an hour), I received my results -- SUPERIOR! (L90,R82,S90,W90)
  • Dec 04: VETASSESS -- Status changed to "Completed"; I received my outcome letter -- POSITIVE!
  • Dec 05: EOI -- Finally lodged the following: 189 (70) | 190 (75)

    For your questions:
    1) For the 3 data roles. Sorry to say, I'm afraid medyo lagging behind ang AU pag dating sa mga IT specific . and if you will notice walang SOL na specific sa Big Data Role but regardless, you may want to check the individual available occupation and see where most of your JD fits. medyo generic naman ung iba so I think makakahanap ka ng Suitable for your job role.

    Getting a visa goes with the same procedure. either 189/190 , but right now they are accepting more on non-offshore applicants.

    2) Finding a job naman still vary, iba iba ang kapalaran pag dating sa job finding :) yes what you listed were correct. mainly Seek ang platform. Some of my friends were referrals .

    3) I think na answer ko na cya sa item 1

    4) I think you have a shot especially kung maganda ang track record mo sa data role mo. not known to many Big data is one of the key tech to digital transformation. ang most companies are undergoing digital transformation stage. ung ibang tech to mention are IoT and Blockchain. So these are niche roles that I think may be boom for sponsorship.

    @mariusinbrisbane suggest to go for both approaches right now for you to have more chances. Skilled visa takes times while sponsorship prospects right now specially for offshore applicants are slim given the current circumstances in Au right now.

    May I know po your degree? I was gonna go for ICT Business Analyst as well pero background ko kasi Statistics so I'm more suitable for Statistician role. Also, ICT Business Analyst is such a competitive occupation kaya much better na hindi nalang ako diyan magpa-assess.
