Reminder to those who are looking for house or flat share in Melbourne

Hi to all,

If you are new to Melbourne and do not have any relatives, friends or family to guide you where to live once you make the big move, I think the following information will assist:

1. Choose an accommodation that is close to public transportation and shops like grocery
2. Choose a suburb/place that is not far from the city (Remember, public transpo in outer suburbs are not that great)
3. Check google, google maps, real estate.com to see the reviews of the suburb you are going to live in (don't take the reviews so seriously, just read through and get some information)
4. Always remember, rent MUST be cheaper if you live further away from the city and if more people are sharing
6. House sharing is common in Australia and most people do that regardless of nationality, race, gender, etc.
7. Once you are here and have an idea of the area, it is very easy to find an accommodation that will suit your budget and needs.

I am just seeing posts from others on here about accommodation with ridiculous prices even they are in the outer areas. We should help our fellow kababayans and NOT rip them off.

Cheers!

That's really helpful. Thanks a lot. Honestly, it's kinda disappointing to know how much other Filipinos charge for a single room; some even almost amounting to 500 pw, and it's not even close to public transpo. :(

Yup, almost 500, while I can see lots of 1BR furnished apartment na mas malapit sa CBD, pero di naman aabot sa ganong cost. Disappointing talaga. Yes, me and my partner will be in Melbourne on the 8th of August, and we're still looking for an accommodation. Ang hirap pala kapag wala pa dyan. We'll consider a hostel na lang siguro muna for a week habang naghahanap ng apartment.

@TasBurrfoot I wanted to, pero wag na lang. Oz_monster's post is enough to remind all Pinoy migrants to be wary of the offered rooms. Andyan naman si google, we can always search for some guides when renting in Melbourne.

@hannahf Yep, you can stay in a hostel while looking for an apartment. There are heaps of hostels in the CBD for you to choose from. It is much easier to find a better accommodation while you are here. Once you arrived here in Melby, search melbourne gumtree on the internet. People use that site to post/advertise a lot of stuff like house/apartment for rent, house share, selling appliances/furnitures etc. some of them even give free stuff you just have to pick it up.

Message me on here if you have questions or if you need some assistance, maybe I can help. By the way, it is winter time in Australia and Melbourne is one of the coldest state (or should I say the coldest). At the moment it is bloody freezing here but hey I reckon you picked the best state/City to live in...haha..That sounds bias but I reckon a lot of Melbournians will agree to me..lol

    Cheers!
