Stop bringing the unpleasant Filipino habits to Australia

mhejmhej SydneyPosts: 202Member
Hi Guys. Just want to vent out and probably create a forum for discussion on the unpleasant Filipino habits that are still being exhibited here in Australia after migration.

Just tonight, my partner, who works part time at Ribs and Burgers in Rhodes Shopping Center experienced 2 tables of horrible customers, both Filipinos. :(

Table 1: Customer complaining about undercooked burger when there was barely a bite left to complain about.
What does this say about Filipinos: Na Patay Gutom po tayo. Nakakahiya at nakakagalit. In fact, this is not the first time I have heard of this happening first hand. Just last Sunday, while eating at Mcdonald's in Goulburn, I overheard a Filipina on the table, loudly bemoaning that the burger she was eating was not the one she ordered. When her companions told her to take the burger to the counter, ang sabi ba naman, "Tsaka na, kapag kalahati na.". I wanted to slap her right then and there.

Table 2: Girl kept asking for water to be served on their table and my partner had been explaining that water is self service (girl was literally sitting in front of the water service station). She said she'd go to the manager because my partner was not serving her right. Her man, not a filipino apologised to my partner and got the water himself.
What does this say about Filipinos: Two-fold, 1) We are illiterate. 2) We are invalids.

These two examples are prevalent in the Philippines. And in some way, even condoned. But we are now in a different country. And we must be mindful of the culture and adapt to it. In Australia, waiters and waitresses are not your servants. They will not bend over backwards to comply to your every whim.

My partner was utterly disappointed with what happened and really didn't expect to ever meet the Filipinos whose type can only be describe as "palibhasa-nakatuntong-sa-mundo-ng-mga-puti-akala-mo-kung-sino-na-umasta".

And maybe, that's also part of why I am so angry right now and just had to create this topic on pinoyau.info. Because I believe that Filipinos are great people. We are warm, hospitable, and respectful. But in the end, we are only as good as the worst of our kind who have made it here. Those in Table 1 and Table 2. :(

Good topic. Parati kaming nagdidiscuss ni misis about Filipino traits and I keep on insisting that the root cause is the Philippine Media - Vice, Ganda Kris Aquino, "Bad Boy" Robin Padilla, etc.

    Filipino in general (not all):

Fail#1. Parati nating pinagtatawanan itsura ng tao, damit, katawan; siguro nga dahil komedyante lang talaga tayo, "more fun in the philippines?". Mali.

Fail#2. In reality - materialistic tayo. Word like "longkatots" etc are funny, etc pero maling pauso. Mali.

Fail#3.

Pag may pilipinong sasali, most of the time hindi disente at bastos ang mga tono. :)

    ...

    Mhej, eto comment ko ha. Opinyon ko lang;

Actually hindi lang pinoy, mas matindi mga Aussie (or any English speaking persons) na rude or maangas kasi ng mumura talaga mga un. Kelangan mahaba pasensya pag sila ang customer at ang one of the best na sagot dyan ay "I am not the best person to explain about that or incident, I will ask my duty manager to come forward and talk to you"

yung sa Goulburn e baka nagbibiro lang, yan ba ung McDo na sa The Big Merino banda? baka nag bibiruan lang sila after ng byahe nila or to take a rest. Stop over kasi ng mga byahero yan dyan (long drive) sa Big Merino galing Melbourne or Sydney to Canberra.

    @Mikan & @TotoyOz

Yun din sabi ng gf ko. Baka raw nga imbalido kaya hindi makatayo to get her own water.

Yung andon sa Mcdo Goulburn, I don't think she was joking. She was a middle aged woman. And sa tono ng boses niya, it was something she was consciously saying and intended really to do.

Siguro my ultimate beef about this situation is the malice around it. Lalo yung sa Table 1. Yung alam mong they are really taking advantage. Pardon my terms, pero yung ugaling "hampas lumpa". Yung tipong gugulang at gugulang at so small a prize at the expense of social etiquette bordering in fact, on morality.

So winner sa pinakawalang kwenta si Table #1. Because regardless of race or culture, I don't think what they did is acceptable in any civilized space in this world. hehehe.

May I just add, may na-encounter ako 2 pinoy ladies in blacktown library naka-loud speaker while on the phone, ang tagal pa ng conversation mga at least 15 minutes. nakakainis lang kasi general knowledge naman na dapat tahimik sa library kasi it is a place you go to when you need to concentrate (ie. study, work, etc.)

Mind your own business ika nga. Dito walang personalan.

Mind your own business ika nga. Dito walang personalan.
    Very well said...

Especially the mind your own business part! :)

sa na obserbahan ko lang ha, most Filipinos na nasa regional areas na napuntahan ko are very nice sa mga bagong dating or visitor na pinoy (accommodating, babatiin ka - "kamusta ka"?, matulungin to name a few). Not like Filipinos na nasa big Cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Canberra. (not sure with Adelaide, Darwin, Brisbane and Hobart).
    Just my observation.

Itong PAGPASENSYAHAN MO NALANG; this is not a good thing eh...

Majority kasi sa mga Pinoy hindi direct so ayun, pinagpasensyahan na lang but tama si @cholle, if you don't mention it to them, they might not be aware that they are very irritating already.

In my case, sa Sydney kami ngayon, yung mga nakilala naming mga pinoy are all very very accommodating and willing to help, most of them have been here for a minimum of 10 years na.

Yung "more fun" mindset kasi minsan is being taken out of context, intentionally or unintentionally.

    "Mag-behave" and "Matutong mahiya"

hi @cholle, yup I agree with you, common kasi dito sa Australia yung greeting.

Baka kasi nadala ung attitude na customers is always right. Yup, ako din di namamansin kahit pinoy, well unless chicks hehehe. Minsan din kasi busy ka sa mga iniisip mo at naghihintayan magbatian, plus marami nga tayo kamukha from other asian countries.
