hello po beautiful people of Adelaide SA ..

my family and I are all bound to Adelaide din, my husband will be coming in March and I plan to follow around August.

I heard mataas ang unemployment rate sa SA ngaun, my husband is a network engr. at analyst programmer po ako.

:( Baka may naka-experience na po pa-share nlng and thank you in advance

Hi @aizen. I hope this message is not too late.. hehe.. Pwede mo ma avail yung 46kgs baggage limit sa Quantas. This scheme is arranged ng IOM (International Organization for Migrants). Just call IOM Manila, indicate your date of travel and pay IOM the amount. IOM will then email you your eticket. Last week lang kasi nakapag book ako via IOM. :-)
you may contact this person sa IOM:

    Hi Ren,

It's a good thing you created this topic. My wife and I will be migrating to South Australia too. Hopefully by 1st week of June. If I don't get a job offer by then, probably I'll go there first, and my wife will follow after I settle and found a descent job. By the way I'm in the field of IT - SAP ABAP to be specific.

I'm new to this forum and if it's ok I definitely would contact you in case I would need some help. Unfortunately I don't have any relatives or any friends who live in SA.

    Thanks!

Hi there, I think the definition of malungkot varies per person..
The more people you know, the more friends you meet, the more activity to do on your spare time, the lesser "lungkot". Every fridays or weekends nagkikita kame ng friends ko here (most are from Pinoy au). Hey maybe you can ask your IT friends to meet me & my friends din for sure hinde na sila malulungkot hehehe (most of my friends are in IT field din). I prefer to use the word laid-back and relax rather than boring. :P

Yes its true 5.4% unemployment rate here sa adelaide, but based on someone who works in SA govt, We Pinoys has a high employment % compare to other migrants. And yes quiet time and last quarter of the year especially Nov and Dec. But having said that, we are Pinoys, we are very skilled and highly competitive. :)

    Congrats on your visa grant!

Best place to live, im not sure where I guess for new migrants the closer to cbd would be a great option kasi madali magbus to anywhere.

As for the hospitals and clinics, equally spread ang location ng mga hospitals. For government jobs sa http://www.sahealthcareers.com.au/ pag private naman mostly nasa www.seek.com.au, although minsan nasa company website nila. But as Med techs depende kung anu ang gusto mong work, hospital ba or private lab, or what specialty mo. Anyway let me know pag nandito na kayo. I will help you with job hunts, resume etc, since pareho naman tayo ng SOL. :)

Yes okay naman sa Glenelg mas accessible sya since may tram and bus, compare to semaphore na bus lang. But take note medyo high maintenance ang bahay pag malapit sa beach since corrosive ang saltwater. :)

let us know first your budget. It's expensive in Adelaide CBD, but far way cheaper than the big cities like melbourne or sydney. To give you a rough idea about the room rental, check www.gumtree.com

I made a survey by myself here it is:

Adelaide CBD = $160 to 260 per week (utility bills not included)
Suburb (25 to 60 mins bus travel to CBD) = $120 down to $90 /week (bills not included)
Suburb (10 to 20 mins bus travel to CBD) = $160 down to 120 / week (bills not included)

We used to have a gatherings every Friday or after catholic mass on Sunday or a simple occasion like pet dog or cat birthdays that fall on weekdays. You may join us once you get here to share you some tips and thoughts on life in Adelaide.

    Cheers.

hello everyone especially to Ms. Ren!..i found this site while looking for details on how to settle in Adelaide. It is so comforting to know na madami din pala Filipinos residing in the city and plus factor na yung pagiging helpful and friendly nyo. Ms. Ren tanong ko po sana kung madali lang ba makahanap work dyan, we are of the same profession po =). Our visa has just been approved and may husband and I are moving in July 2013 kasi tatapusin muna namin contract dito in KSA. We are so excited but quite scared kasi wala din kami kakilala dyan.

Thanks and I wish to meet you all in future!

@civdlcrz Hi there! See you soon. Finally another Med tech! hehe.

As for the job hunt depende din may time na madaming openings tska I think depending on your field of expertise (Haematology, Chem, Micro, Histo, Transfusion?) Since maganda ang training nating mga Med tech from the Philippines and aslo KSA experience.

Will try my best to help you in job hunting but, Im sure you will be fine!

    btw PM sent.

    HI Ren,

My family and I are bound for Adelaide this April 2013. We are looking for a house for rent for the 4 of us. Short term lang from april 9 -26. Then will need a shared accomodation for my husband - single lang from April 27 to May 23.

By any chance do you have some info on this? May i know also in which Cathedral can we meet on April 14 after the mass? I will shoot out another posting for all April Migrants so we can all meet up at the Cathedral.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    thanks and God bless,

I hope you're all doing well. I'm scheduled to arrive on the 20th of May. If you have a spare room which will be available by then and perhaps you'd like to rent out please feel free to contact me. It would be nice to have a filipino housemate on my first day in adelaide.
