i know this is an old thread i just want to share our experience

just 2 months ago we bought a travel insurance from bluecross 180 days for 4k PHP , we thought this would do for satisfying a VISA requirement for my father ... after a week upon submission my father got a visa grant for 1 year / multiple entry / no minimum days of stay

if you want a contact person do give me a email or private message

    Google for Everything !!!

Nice!! When is ur mom coming? My mom is visiting just for a month in time for baptism lang. Just a short visit.. Quick look around aussie.

My mom never takes insurance..she went to africa for a safari without insurance and got sick. It was expensive to see the gp there. So im really thinking if she might need one seeing she isnt young anymore. What company do u recommend? And is this company something we can take out here in au rather than in the philippines? My mom is kinda' happy-go-lucky..in all her travels hindi kumukuha ng insurance yan kahit contents.. She got stuff stolen in her hotel in singapore pero wala ..goodbye. No insurance kasi.

@li_i_ren - ako before, i had this mentality na insurance are just a waste of money...

when i had my certificate 2 in tourism, one of the lessons there was travel insurance - you will be surprised how unfortunate are those people with their pants down (nagka accident whilst not covered with anyone). Amount can range to several thousands of dollars just for treatment. Nabuhay nga sila but nasira din ang finances nila.

for added peace of mind, i would say just take an insurance kahit na short trip out of the country...

    Cheers!! :)

No its not a waste of money

every time we go overseas we buy insurance ... yun unang claim namin nagkasakit yung anak namin the day before the flight .. we need to re-book everything .. because of travel insurance parang 100$ lang ( excess ) yung binayaran namin for the whole re-booking ... the second was last na uwi namin ... na cancel yung flight without a notice to us via PAL they paid for our food ... travel agency shouldered our hotel for 1 day ( beside sydney airport )

i encourage everybody to have a insurance before going overseas malaking tulong pero make sure you read the PDS before signing

    Hi peeps!

@peach17, @li_i_ren: matanda na mom ko eh, in her 60s. Actually, it's for my own peace of mind. If it were up to her, hindi yun kukuha. Alam niyo naman, medyo wala sa bukabularyo nila yan. Pero inisip ko na mahaba ang biyahe, at hindi siya sanay sa lamig. Baka sipunin etc. I just want her covered. I learned about travel insurance the hard way. I lost a luggage somewhere between houston and hk. Ewan kung saan napunta. I don't want that happening to her. Kung ako lang, kaya ko awayin yung airlines (ala-Claudine, hehe).

@li_i_ren, binigyan ako ni @JCSantos ng detailed info via email. If you could PM me your email, forward ko sayo. :)

    @JCSantos: salamat po sa email.

@Nadine pm me in fb... Naku nadine..same mentality lng yung nanay natin kasi pinoy old school thinking hindi uso sa panahon nila insurance. We keep nagging my mom about getting some coverage while travelling kasi she is a travel bug but she does not listen. Hardheaded yung mom ko. So i am thinking we will get insurance for her kasimif we leave it to her to ogranize..it will not happen.

@ akino.. Can you get bluecross on behalf of your parents who are in pinas? Bale dito na lahat i process sa au?:)

Kung ni require po ng Immigration yung health insurance ... just call the VIA office and ask for their email address .... you need to scan it and attach it to the email you are sending to Immi

Narefund lahat. :) Kailangan rin pala isubmit ang itinerary and yung first page and yung stamps sa passport.

An alternative for BLUE CROSS is AIG.

I prefer AIG because of the following reasons:

AIG is a multinational company and they have a local branch as well in Australia. AIG offers their Medical Expense Benefit which they claim to be cashless for In-Patient Treatment. The Insured may contact their 24-hour emergency hotline to assist them during emergency cases as our Travel Guard Representatives will be the one to coordinate with their Claims Department in the Philippines.

Google these words and you will find an article - AIG offers their Medical Expense Benefit which they claim to be cashless for In-Patient Treatment

    AIG Travel Guard

    They offer 2 plans:
Standard Protection - 1M Medical cover

Enhanced Protection - 2.5M Medical Cover

    Standard Protection
    - 2,750 for the 1st 30 days and 392 for additional week
    - Total payments for:
    1 month of stay = 2,750
    2 months of stay = 2,750 + (392 + 392 + 392 + 392) = 4,318
    6 months of stay = 2,750 + (1,568 x 5) = 10,590

    Enhanced Protection
    - 3,026 for the 1st 30 days and 430 for additional week.
    - Total payments for:
    1 month of stay = 3,026
    2 months of stay = 3,026 + (430 + 430 + 430 + 430) = 4,746
    6 months of stay = 3,026 + (1,720 x 5) = 11,626

But if more than 6mos of stay, you should get a PHI for the rest of their stay here in Australia.
