Both visas entitle the holders to Australian permanent residence. The subclass 186 visa is unconditional and employees can cease employment once the visa is granted, provided they comply with the terms of their employment contract. With the subclass 187 visa, the employee is obliged to remain with the nominating employer for two years after the visa is granted, unless the nominating employee terminates their employment for whatever reason. If an employee leaves a nominating employer because their employment is terminated the employee must find other employment in the same occupation in the same regional area for the remainder of the two years following the grant of the visa.
