Tapos lagi ko sinasabi sa kanya na may plan c lord at may nakalaan n work for him.it is just a matter of time lang.patience lang ang kelangan tsaka faith kay lord :)

Tapos and cover letter po iedit based sa requirements and key words n ginamit sa job ads. Like yung mga terms and yung mas important n requirement dpat nasa taas and dapat ihighlight or expound cgro dn yung relevant experience.

    Saang state po kyo?

@kremitz thanks sa reply at tips! Oo nga parang ayoko ilagay yung odd job hehe.. hirap kasing isingit sa resume :) Yun nga lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya, in time makakahanap din sya ng match sa skills nya, medyo naaawa lang din ako sa kanya kasi di talaga sya sanay sa ganung klaseng work kitang kita ang pagod at stress nya pag uwi :( first time na mag"manual" work eh. Pano yun as in concentrate lang hubby mo sa application nya kaya di na sya nag odd job? Ngayon kasi ang set up namin ni hubby, since EE din ako, Im applying for him kasi wala na syang time mag-apply dahil sa work nya.

Don't get me wrong po ha. Lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya dadating din ang time na makakakuha din sya ng aligned na work for the meantime tiis tiis muna.. lagi ko din pinapaalala na para kay baby yung pagtitiis nya, ayun napapacify naman haha! :)

    http://iamure.com/publication/index.php/ijss/article/view/3
    http://www.engineersmedia.com.au/journals/aaee/pdf/AJEE_16_2_Trevelyan.pdf

    Finish Line! Thank you Lord!

Finally nakakuha na ako ng offer in my 7th week here in Melbourne. After 4 face to face interviews for direct employers, 4 facetoface recruiter interviews and several over the phone.

    My advice:
Mga employers dito hindi 123 mag recruit, sometimes they will wait fr the job ad to expire, doon pa sila magshortlist, tsaka uubusin nila yung shortlisted candidates before finalizing. Meron isang company initial contact was 3 weeks ago, den nasa reference stage na ako pero till now I haven't heard from them.

Para sa nandito na- Patience, persistence, prayers. Try to come up with a strategy, tackle each phase step by step (application, phone, facetoface).

All the best OZ peeps. Keep ur hopes up!

@lester_lugtu - nothing wrong with his perception of the Philippines I guess (unless I miss something out); the country is really a miserable place to stay in. Strip out the family factor and the false sense of Filipino pride (that most of us exhibit) then wala talaga...

I don't know what you are thinking, but the recent news on the Binays on the overpriced city hall, the traffic and flood situation in my city (Cagayan de Oro), the moronic traffic move of Mar Roxas, the face of the Aquinos, etc... These are making me ask, WTF?!! :)

Ayun... Life is better outside the country I guess but to each his own.

I am getting carried away - back to regular programming please...

    Guys share ko lang...

I attended yung meetup regarding job hunting, etc... Most of the discussions were on resume writing.. There was a suggestion to even hire a professional to write your resume and make it more attractive to recruiters.. given the competitions here in Australia.. having a good resume that will stand out is surely an advantage..

Right now, I'm really contemplating of asking someone to revise my resume na magagamit ko just in case na mag apply ako.. I've checked yung mga service providers..350-400 AUD.. mahal sya.. pero am thinking na it is a small price to pay if it will help me or will give me a chance to land my dream job here in Australia.. i'm not actively applying for a job right now.. pero nag se send

For those na looking for their first job..... probably this is it something or option na pwede nyong pag isipan .. consider the price that you will pay to ask someone to write your cover letter+ resume vs. your expenses while looking for a job + time + yung stress level nyo...

    thanks @loudandclear and @kremitz...

for resume writing..read the ad and try to have all those sa CV mo..if di kaya bangittin mo yung iba sa coverletter...be careful in modifying though as they will find that out once they call your references...basta try to make your qualifications almost similar to the requirements

@jepoy527 .. agree.. pabago bago yung requirements and you still need to tailor fit your resume.. however, base on my experience..when i apply for a job.. mga 10 - 20% lang ang binabago ko.. so i'm thinking na kung mag improve yung baseline or generic resume ko.. mas lalaki pa rin ang chance ko to land a job...

i'm not actively looking for job right now.. ok naman ako sa current job ko.. pero may target kasi ako for next year.. [-O<

Congrats to your husband sis @kremitz! Congrats @gmad06!

Finish line na din ako, just signed the contract today and I will start work on Monday. It took me 10 weeks to land that elusive first job but it was all worth it. Ang daming times na I was feeling really down na parang end of the world na, pero I just continued and kept on trying. Ang advice ko lang is tailor your resume sa australian format, use the keywords na nasa job ad but do not copy the whole statement. For example ang nasa resume mo is "software testing" pero ang nasa job ad is "user acceptance testing", you should use the term na nasa job ad kasi some recruitment firms use a keyword finder software to sort resumes in to the NO pile, this is also the reason why they are requiring resumes in WORD format, not PDF. You also have to note na not all assigned to do the shortlisting of candidates have a good understanding of what competencies the job really requires kasi most of them do not have the same background as you.

During interviews, prepare an elevator speech for the tell me about yourself question, this should not take longer than 2 minutes and should summarize your key achievements and why you would be a good fit for the role, wag nyo ikwento ang life story nyo, hehe. Have an inventory of your selling points (skills) and prepare at least 10 Q (quantity) statements based on your job experience, here is a sample:

QUESTION: What kinds of skills do you have that would benefit this company?

ANSWER: I believe that my management, budgeting, and purchasing skills would benefit the company. In my last company, I initiated a new procedure for purchasing materials that ended up in a 37 percent decrease in annual materials costs. That's what I'd like to do for your company.

You do not need to always put a number in your statement, you just basically need to quantify and add a little exaggeration to market your self. And in these statements, you should always use the word I and not WE, even if you were able to accomplish the task with the help of your team mates.

I would also highly suggest that you attend the free Skillmax course offered to new migrants as the course will definitely help you have a greater understanding on how the australian job market works and how to land a job without local experience. We were told in the class that the "Local Experience" reason is just used as an excuse to reject job applications from new migrants because of poorly done resumes and cover letters. Well unless your job requires you to be familiar with local policies and regulations such as accounting, finance and banking. Just note na sa NSW lang skillmax ang tawag sa course na to, sa ibang state iba daw tawag but I do not know kung ano and different agencies are running this course so iba iba sila ng program content but they are all funded by the government.

Just be patient and prepare very very well. Treat an interview like a first date instead of an interrogation. Remember that employers also need you as much as you need them. :) Please also visit this link for tips and insights: http://interviewiq.com.au/
