Hi guys! Has anyone tried going through Accounting Internships? ang prob ko kasi is my experience is so unrelated to the usual accounting/bookkeeping na hinahanap dito.(govt worker kasi ako) I think this is the only way makakuha ako ng local experience in accounting/bookkeeping if I still want to practice being a CPA. Thanks in advance for all those na mag rereply!!

Di siya ganoon ka sikat pero one of the top 50. Ang role ko ay Preparation of FS, Reconciliation of BS accounts, preparing GSTs, BAS reports Tax. Working for the accounting firm's clients. Intermediate Accountant tawag nila. Tanong ko lang po if ma count ito na local job experience even though offshored? salamat.

EDIT: Ma eexposed din pala ako sa mga accounting softwares like MYOB, XERO and Peachtree. Thanks

I see.

Yes, ung CMA sa pinas is the CMA which was accredited in Australia

    http://cmaphilippines.com/cma®_program

Yung sa US (IMA) is hindi, separate na CMA un (IMA). Better get the one in Ortigas, if you plan to move to Australia.

I see. Muntik nalang.

Not in good terms ang IMA at ICMA not sure now. yan ang alam ko, parang nag split up sila dati. Ung CMA canada nga, nagpasa pa ng laws para hindi i recognise ung CMA US (IMA) sa bansa nila. Something like that. CMA pinas is the one with tie-up with Australia which is ung sa ICMA.

Nice info. Paano nga pala yung other certificates? Tulad ng ACCA, CAT at may nakita akong Vocational Skill na school na nag bibigay ng British certificate sa Cost Accounting and Finance accounting, tataas ba yung chances ko na ma employ sa australia if I have these? Salamat po.

No. ACCA is UK based though recognised din sa mga bansa gaya dito sa SG.

I only find CPA/CA as the most relevant certifications sa Australia.

Since wala naman program dito na Australian CPA, might as well try ko yung plan B. Effective ba kung mag bridging program ako? Balak ko sana after 5 years at naka ipon na ay mag student visa ako either AU or NZ. Salamt po

What bridging program? Accounting graduate ka ba/ CPA? Kung gusto mo makaipon better work muna sa bansa gaya ng Singapore/ Middle east then apply for migration.

Bridging is mag aaral ulit using student visa.

I dont see the point na magstudent visa ka pa. Apply directly as PR if you have atleast 3-5 years relevant experience. I knew a lot people mostly CPA's from pinas na naapproved ang PR. Magastos student visa and PR din naman main goal mo. Apply for PR, then after that saka ka mag aral ng CPA australia/ CA pagpunta mo sa Australia. Baon mo nlang ung dapat gagatusin mo sa pagaaral/ student visa route.

AICPA kasi is for CPA USA. May mutual agreement kasi sila with CA australia together with other professional bodies who are members of Global Accounting Alliance. Di nman direct conversion agad2, need mag apply for conversion pero mas madali kasi nga may MRA. But they will not merge, agreements lang meron sila. Usually ang issues to resolve nlang nman is ung Tax/ Corp Law differences nila. Not sure pero ibang mra yata yang sa Nasba/AICPA pero ganun din halos yan with GAA.

I see. Meron mag bubukas na cpa us review center dito sa pinas. Pinag iisipan ko, kung i'll go for uscpa. Ano maadvise mo? Shiuld i get yung uscpa?

If you aim for US CPA, then aim to work in US. After you pass US CPA, alam ko you need to apply for license sa state na magstay ka and they have different requirements ata. Nearest testing center is Japan if i am not mistaken. I will advise you to study in US nlang, (e.g. MBA sa Maharashi University), then saka ka magapply sa Big 4. Then dun ka na mag take ng CPA US. Ganun ginawa kaibigan ko. His working now in PWC New York via studying sa isang di masyadong kilalang school. Although may prior experience sya sa big 4 (SGV and PWC Jamaica). He completed US CPA as well. Advantage is may student visa ka so you can stay temporarily with lodging, and may chance ka for face to face interview sa mga employer. And di daw masyado mahal, swak sa budget nya, but he able to attained his goal. Certifications is good, but much more important kasi is yung experience. Kung marami kang certifications pero kulang experience mo, eh employer will not bother. So dapat may goal ka, for every certification na kukunin mo and magagawa mo syang stepping stone if ever.

    Hello fellow accountants!

Just an update in response to the topic. I arrived here in Sydney mid July 2014, got my first contract role mid Nov 2014, then resigned in December (about after a month) because to start a permanent role in Jan 2015.

So it took me about 4 months before I was accepted for an accounting role. My initial challenge was due to my lack of local experience. Just keep on sending your resumes in Seek. I also suggest you make relationships with recruiting agencies in addition to applying directly to a company. It will increase your chances of getting your first role, either contract or permanent role.

I landed my contract role with the help of a recruiting agency and for my permanent role, I applied directly with the company.

Good luck and Happy New Year!
