@WizardofOz, kung opinion mo tatanungin mo. I won't write "available upon request" because that is not the aussie format. Its either you write the referees or don't write the Character reference in your CV. All companies, head hunters will require referees anyway. At kung nagsimula ka ng mag apply some head hunters will asked you to filled out some forms may section for references/referees dun mo pwedeng ilagay yung mga taong kabatak mo na magbibigay sayo ng magandang reference sa mga dati mong work.

They won't judge you as over/under qualified ka in the position that your applying with the referees you provided. They are asking who was your work etiquette in your previous job, do you get along with people in your team, company. How's your well you speak or understand english. Ang dreaded question palaging sinabi sa kin ng mga referees ko is "Is there anyting you want to say that doesn't covered by the questions or surveys that we ask that might affect this application. Of course dapat sagutin nila ito hindi lang dapat NO ang answer. Sabi ng mga puti loaded question ito. This might make or break kung ihihire ka.

All the best in your job haunting. Dapat may section tayo na FAQ job interview questions para mapaghandaan ng ibang tao dito sa forum na nag aapply ng work sa OZ.

May nabasa akong article na huwag ilagay sa resume "references available upon request".

So just omit the Character References section of your resume pag ayaw mong maglagay ng specific names ng references.

Tama nga naman, "references available upon request" will just make your resume longer, it does not add any value. Anyway, if the employer is really interested in your qualifications, for sure they will ask for references at a later stage of the recruitment process.

My current employer didn't ask for references. I had one interview and they interviewed another guy after me, then they offered me the job the same day. Depends on the requirement and the employer. In my case they immediately needed someone to start ASAP, ako pa nga nagpa-delay ng start ko.

I also applied somewhere else, went to two interviews, then they asked me for references. I didn't get it, sayang. They got someone else with more experience daw. Sabi ng references ko (mga ex employer ko in Singapore) they weren't even contacted. With this job it didn't seem like an immediate vacancy to be filled asap because they really took their sweet time with the application process.

same here.. well, i guess we really are at a disadvantage with no local experience.. also, considering the number of candidates the companies are choosing from, it's really a challenge to get noticed.. i've spoken to a LOT of recruiters and their advice is to just keep trying.. another option I am looking into is to take professional courses like OQP here in Melbourne. I've met the founder of OQP in NMIT and he is starting his own online company this month - he's calling it OBP. For those interested, you can check Terry O'Reilly in Linkedin..

hi @gracee! if i may, OQP is somewhat a professional short course offered to help foreign talents adapt to the employment scene here in AU.. they conduct sessions for polishing your resume, cover letter, practice interviews, work placements, etc.. so you are free to enroll if you'd like.. meron lang discounts depending if you are a PR and/or holding a concession card.. that's how it is here in VIC but not sure if it's the same in QLD.. hope that helps :)

Np.. hmm, I'm not familiar with how it is in QLD. maybe someone from QLD can comment? Although, you could check TAFE or universities who might offer OQP or something similar..

so in short, local experience means formal & documented integration with locals like you've joined short-term academic or occupational courses, involved in organisations like Toastmasters, Rotary, volunteered in charity works like in Habitat for Humanity, World Vision, etc. Not necessarily local job experiences.
    Tama po ba?

@jayr27 umm may skillmax dn po ba jsn sa perth?try nyo po enrol. Hubby ko same situation sYo. Andami nadin nya interviews with recruiters and test consultancy companies.

Hi all! Sisingit napo ako just in case makatulong din to sa iba..konting background muna to kinda intrroduce myself...

bago lang po ako dto sa pinoyau.info and sa ilang weeks na pagbabasa ko dto ay sobrang ang dami ko na natutunan kya ako po ay natutuwa na makatulong din kahit papano, to give back...few months ago, sobrang ngsstruggle ako na makahanap ng work na tlgng gusto ko..but I cant compalin about my job right now since same field naman kaso Im in the lowest of the food chain kya sinisikap ko na makaangat paunti-unti...still now ngsstruggle prn ako kya ngdecide nako recently lng to take desperate measures and do something about it or else habang buhay ako mgmumukmok lol!

Sobrang simple kasi ng resume ko, in short hindi ako dalubhasa pagdating sa resume and cover letters, then I came across with the Airtasker, app sya dto sa AUstralia about posting task online tapos may mgbbid na gagawa ng task mo for a price..I paid $25 to someone to edit my resume but feeling ko thats not enough..I think I need to attend a course about job seeking skills, Im great with my work but Im very weak when it comes to interviews..I tend to black out all the time and end up not getting the job kahit qualified ako for the position..so i did some research and nabasa ko nga dto about SKILLMAX..skillmax po ata ay program ng NSW AMES..I emailed TAFE around my area and theyve told me na dto sa location ko (which is in Sydney), hindi dw po skillmax ang tawag nila dto sa TAFE kungdi JOBSEEKING FOR SKILLED MIGRANTS (Advanced and Intermediate English), comparable dw po ito sa skillmax and English for Employment programs..free dw po ito & runs bet.5-7 weeks and at the end may makukuha kang cert.IV..andto na po lahat like how to edit ur resume/coverletter, learn kung anong hiring culture dto etc..may mga requirements lng po sila like PR visa, 6.0 or above IELTS current (last 2 years) etc.

Hope makatulong kahit papano! Sorry sa haba ng post lol! ;-) <3
