Married but Wife still not using my Last name

alexamaealexamae SydneyPosts: 877Member
I'm married for a year now but my wife still hasn't changed her last name. Hindi kasi sya compulsory dito sa SG so di nalang muna namin pina process kasi matagal ang pagkuha ng passport ngayon. Wala kami masyado time pag uwi sa pinas, so hinayaan lang muna namin. Meron na kaming NSO certified na marriage cert/license.

Question: magpaprocess na sana kami ng application, need ba nya magpapalit muna ng last name? Ako ang main applicant.

Salamat sa time.

I believe she doesn't need to change as long as you have a CTC of your marriage certificate, there should be no problem on it. Dito din naman sa Pinas, may option talaga ang wife if they're going to retain their maiden name or change it to their married name. Nakasanayan na lang lahat na nagpapalit to married name pero hindi din compulsory satin.

Nominated Occupation: Software Engineer (261313) - Husband is the primary applicant.

10.21.2012 - Arrived in Melbourne. This is the day that the Lord has made. :)
03.26.2012 - Visa granted. God is good, all the time! All the time, God is good! :)

03.02.2012 - Application being processed further / CO assigned
    06.26.2011 - Lodged Visa 175 application

i am married to a wonderful person for twelve long years but i still carry (no disrespect to my hubby) my maiden name in almost all transactions--immigration etc (even passport).it is not a problem if you have the document from NSO as proof that ur legally married...as long as u indicate that u r married...aussies are not particularly meticulous with name change for married women.

agree.. that's why they also created an option to include "de-factor" partner in the visa application.. married/not married, surname changed or not... no issues at all..

guys, ask ko lang. in my case naman, i'm using my husband's name (btw i'm a girl, if ever you'll be confused with my username..hehehe). initial stage palang kami sa application. nag-aayos palang kmi ng mga papers. i am the principal applicant. my skill is to be assessed by vetassess. my question is, meron part dun sa application form na nakalagay na other names. i'm thinking of putting my maiden name dun kc lahat ng school credentials ko maiden ko pa nakalagay. tpos humihingi sila ng proof of change of name. eh a ang proof ko lang is marraige certficate.

anu ba sa tingin nyo or based sa experience nyo? hwag nalang ba ako maglagay ng details dun sa other name na portion. magegets naman na cguro nila pag nakita nila pag nkita nila ung marriage certifcate namin. or ilagay ko pa din?

    thanks!!

just curious why do you girls dont want to change your name?

I mean d b parang SOP na after marriage girls change their surname on everything ... sobrang problematic tong mga inconsistent na pangalan .... me mga kilala ako matanda na sila at hirap na sila mag process ng passport or migration papers dahil inde nila inasikaso yung pag palit ng pangalan at maling pangalan sa birth cert vs sa mga ID

Oh by the way guys if you dont know you can use you maiden name here in australia , I mean you dont have to change it once you get married, ito ang ginagawa ng mga chinese , meron akong ka officemate na magasawa na inde pinalitan yung pangalan ni babae ... sabi sa akin inde daw required sa mga chinese i guess you can still use this ... kaya pala nung nag apply ako ng passport nagtataka yung chinese na nag pprocess kung bakit nag iba ang pangalan ng asawa ko :)

@JCsantos - my wife opted to use her maiden name; it is no biggie for me and less hassle for her to arrange for all the name change documents.

And yeah, there is on rule in the Philippines that stipulates that a girl must follow the name of the husband. Ginagawang tradition lang ito but it is not written in stone.

    Good afternoon Sir/Mam,

Makisali din po ako regarding the maiden name and NBI clearance.
We are on our assessment stage right now and this matter alarmed us.
My wife's documents all showed her maiden name, and in this case,
is there's a possibility to have a problem in the NBI clearance renewal?
Or is it possible to renew the NBI clearance as single just to provide the
the maiden name and then just provide to the DIBP our marriage certificate?
    Is this possible?

Any help would be very much appreciated regarding this matter.

    Thanks!

@omeng22 I had the same situation. Unfortunately, NBI won't allow you to do that pero we never had any problem naman. All of my wife's documents were submitted with her maiden name except for the NBI clearance. No questions asked when we processed the visa. All the best.

@Aussiepangarap may sumagot na ba sa question mo? here's my take...if your passport still shows your maiden name, ok lang. sa NBI clearance just put your husband surname dun sa questionnaire sa husband section mo, if they ask, show them your marriage cert. sa atin lang parang compulsory na mag change ng surname. imagine lahat ng docs mo papalitan? even your signature once na mag asawa ka? for me it's ok if my wife still use her surname. anyways my 2 boys use my name so no problem ;-)

Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

James 5:7-8 Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

    Onward to the next chapter!

@MayoMay that's fine with NBI. You just need to explain on a cover letter when you submit your docs to the Dept of Home Affairs.
