I just want to share what I'm going through with my Lola right now. wla akong mahanap na similar na thread dito. if meron man at hindi ko nakita, paki route nlng tong post to doon.
Australian citizen c lolafor almost 30yrs na, aussie hubby (2nd hubby) died early this year. At the start of the year din, she got a guardianship and financial order from the public guardian and NSWTG, respectively. That means ang gobyerno ang guardian nya and financial manager nya.
Bakit may guardian and financial manager sya ay dahil may mga report and reklamo na sa kanya sa neighborhood nya na nag act funny na sya. In the end, ACAT (aged care assessment team) gave a report na dapat na sya mapunta sa residential care or home care due to severe Alzheimer's.
Ba't none of the family walang alam nito Alzheimer's nya. Last visit nya sa pinas was around end of 2013, and na pansin namin ang pagka forgetful nya. But tayong mga pinoy, iisipin lng na malimutin lng, that's all. Tinanong kung kumusta, sagot naman ay ok lang. The gravity of the situation never dawned on us until I read the reports. Pwede ding sabihin na complacent lang ang family generally, kasi parang well taken cared of nmn tingnan c Lola at that time.
None of us her family knew until bumisita ako sa bahay nya at nakita ko yung letter. I immediately went into contact with them and wanted to get involved. BTW, ako lng family nya dito, migrated march last year to sydney, moved to melby 4 months later where i got a job offer. ndi ako swerte sa sydney.. Lahat ng mga anak nya nasa pinas nag settle.
Then nung June, ipinasok sya sa isang aged care facility. Around that time din nag request ako na magiging guardian and financial manager nya so I can take care of her. Had the hearing held few weeks ago, and surprisingly na approve ako, hindi ko talaga inexpect to. I was relieved. Thankful din nmn ako sa system dito na at least na agapan ang sitwasyon ni lola at mabait din ung guardian ni lola ko.
Now comes the part na e transfer ko sya dito sa melbourne para isang state nlng kami. Hirap pala, daming requirements, but mostly I think are 'one time setup' sort of stuff. Like punta sa bank, centrelink, medicare, etc, para e inform na ako na ung guardian/financial manager nya, and mai right ako to act on her behalf. Hirap din kasi dito ako sa melb, sya andun pa sa sydney.
Wala akong alam sa aged care system dito, completely new, kaya sa mga makapag share, would really mean a lot to me..
i'm still in the process gathering the requirements para ma transfer ko sya sa aged care facility dito sa melb. Like copies nag ACCR, income and assets assessment, hanap ng gandang facility, study the aged care system and gov't subsidies that she can avail.
I have not disclosed much on the roller coaster of emotions i experienced while dealing with this, this was the most stressful year of my life by far. My only lessons learned that i want to share to everyone is carefully plan your retirement... kung uwi ba kayo pinas, pasok ba kayo aged care, sino maging guardian/financial manager nyo etc..
C Lola ko hindi dual citizenship sa atin kaya hirap pa uwiin ng matagalan.Isa pa to sa todo list ko once ma transfer ko sya dito. And then, after nito, mag gawa pa ako ng proposal kung anong services na marereceive nya dun sa pinas, eh wala nmn taung aged care facility dun, ndi naman uso mga Alzheimer's clinic dun. Gusto nila e assure na anong care and service na nkukuha nya dito makukuha din nya sa pinas. Eh sa atin walang ganyan, bahay ka lang tapos may domestic helper cguru na tutulong sa daily chores, un lng. Hirap ipa intindi sa mga taga 1st world country. willing nmn mga anak nya na bantayan sya, but ung specifics ng proposal nya ang gusto nila, mga FACTS, which ndi ko alam pano umpisahan..
Tapos hindi sya pauwiin din ng guardian/financial manager nya before if hindi ma sort out ung property nya sa pinas. Actually this is my mistake, kasi sa pagka ignorante ko nung ipinopropose ko sa guardian nya before na e uwi nlng sya sa pinas, na sabi ko na may property sya sa pinas at kayang kaya nya e support sarili nya kahit wala na syang pension. Hindi naman kalakihan, but still property pa rin na pa rentahan. Nag ning ning ang financial manager nya, kasi gusto daw nya ibenta ang propery para magamit ni lola ang pera para panggastos nya dito, but ayaw ng mga anak nya kasi yan ang plan na source of income ng lola ko pag dating sa pinas, or kahit nung mag babakasyon sya sa pinas, dun sya kumukuha ng pera nya.
little did i know na maging complicated ung sitwasyon ngaun na namention ko to. gusto ng finance manager nya ipadala ang income ng renta para gamitin nya, eh sa liit ng exchange, parang ndi yata aabot ng $800 per month ung kita nun, ndi pa kasali mga on-going expenses sa property.
ndi ko din alam anong mangyari sa mga subsidies nya if ma declare ang value ng property nya kc ndi nmn sya nakapag receive ng pera ng renta. ndi nmn pinapadala ng anak nya ung pera dito. ndi ko dn alam anong rights ng oz govt maki alam sa property overseas. and anong mangyari if ndi talaga ibibigay ng mga anak ang information sa property, or if hindi ipabenta, ano right nila? gulo gulo talaga, sana pwede ko mabalik ung panahon na yun at hindi nlng sinabi para ndi ganito ka hirap. conflicting interests...
