Guys/Gals.. need your help.. i have a daugher (current: Gr 7, 13 yrs old) and son (current: Grade 2, 8 yrs old)... Assuming we have visa granted early next year.. our plan is for them to finish Grade 8 and Grade 3 up to 3rd Quarter or December next year.. get a recommendation from their current school na na finish na nila yung school year.. then mag enter sa Australia by Jan.. para pag start ng school Yr 9 na yung daughter ko and Yr 4 na yung son ko...

Question: Does this plan makes sense? or Australian education is looking more on the age of the kids and not what they've finished from their country of origin?

thanks...

According sa nabasa ko at sa mga nagbigay ng advice, year level will be based on age. Meron kaming kakilala sa perth natapos ng grade 2 sa pinas pagdating nila ng Perth nasa Year 4 sya based on her age.

    Hope someone will testify :-)

    Cheers!

pero behind naman yung education system here in pinas.. a 5 years old in australia can not read or write other than their name.

if you are 5..automatic go to primary school.

a 4 years old in pinas can read 3 letter words and know phonetically the sound of the alphabet. but because you are 4 even if you can read and write..you go to pre school even if you are better than the 5 years old.

they only get "intensive" things when they are in high school or older.

@multitasking yes, it is correct that year level in Oz is based on age. My daughter is 15yo and shes at level 10. So your 13yo will be on level 8 here, year 9 if she turned 14 yo by early next year. Good luck with your move. Please take note that public schools here normally asks to donation, amount varies. While private schools definitely requires school fees, some high end private schools charges $25K per annum!

Also, school uniforms are bloody expensive here. Books, same. So I suggest to try to enquire from the school if they sell second hand uniforms and books. And try online sites like gumtree and second hand online textbook stores. Hope this helps!

HI .. my family will be here in Sydney by this month (this is on the assumption na makakakuha ako ng bahay agad)...yung panganay ko Year 8 sa Pinas.. we are trying na mahabol sya sa Year 8 dito sa fourth term.. kaso pag di umabot.. next year na namin papapasukin... di pa nafinalized kung Year 9 na sya next year.. kakausapin pa namin yung principal.. pero based sa mga nakausap ko.. parang alang problem naman na di nila natapos yung current year level sa Pinas..

we received an email from the Catholic school in Victoria that my daughter's application for enrollment for Grade 5 for 2014 school year has been accepted pending presentation of original documents as follows: Birth Certificate, Passport and Visa. So, almost done na. we were just wondering why there was no mention of presenting any school records from our daughter's school here in the Philippines?

Depends on how much the School charges 2k$ ++ yata yung last na school nung anak ko ( Catholic school ) from what I have heard libre ang public school .... costly lang sa uniform

Para sa amin we dont mind the cost , we are after the values that are taught in Catholic school ...

this is one of the major decision we made when we arrived..

@multitasking and StickyNote - thanks for the insights. Gandang guidelines 'to for choosing schools.
We're planning to enter via visa 573 by next year. I heard 8,000/year for most public schools.

@Newleaf2014 share ko lang ito from humanrightscommission.vic.gov.au. this would apply to dependents of visa 573 holders.

"The school fees charged for dependents of international students studying in Victoria are significant: $7,370 per year for a primary school age child and $9,770 for a child in junior secondary school.

By way of comparison, below is a sample of the fees charged by Catholic primary schools in metropolitan Melbourne:
    • $1,030 ‘family school fee’ per year, with additional levies depending on the number of children enrolled. The total amount payable for one child enrolled is $1,340, for three children enrolled it is $1,800.
    • $1,200 family fee with an additional levy per child of $320 in Prep to Year 1), $290 for Year 2 to Year 5, and $470 for Year 6)
    • $1,800 per student per year with a family discount means a fee of $1,440 for a second child, $900 for a third child and nil for a fourth child."

@Newleaf2014 yes, for dependents of visa 573, mas mura po Catholic schools kaysa public school. Not too sure lang kung mas madali makapasok sa Catholic school pag ang visa class is 573.
