working and supporting yourself on a student visa

jillisrajujillisraju MandaluyongPosts: 16Member
Hello guys!

I have decided to post a topic here, mejo invisible member ako dito. patingin tingin lang, at basa sa mga interesting topics. anyway, I plan to study in Sydney and nasa kalagitnaan na ko ng process in obtaining a student visa. My question is, possible ba na ma suportahan mo ang sarili mong tuition fee while working sa Australia? I plan on applying sa UWS, and ang concern ko talaga is kung kaya ba talaga makabayad ng tuition while you work and study.

sana po may makasagot :) salamat po!

Have a good day ahead! :)

I know of some friends here in melbourne who were and are on such situation. They survived while studying and living alone here. I would rather say it's bit challenging but it is possible. Yong dalawa nga sa kanila are studying nursing and still single, they're about to graduate from their course within the year.

    primary applicant- wife
    arrived melbourne- July 28, 2010

Wow! finally! may nag reply! haha. thank you Danyan :) that gave my hopes up! yun kasi yung main concern ko, actually may mga kilala ko sa Sydney na sinussuportahan sarili nila while studying pero may mga partners silang kasama at hindi single.

@GoldSeeker yan din po balak ko.soonest I have my class schedule. I need to have a job, to keep my self busy.2 years ang course and maiiwan ko mag-ama ko sa pinas.
Sa sydney, mas madali ang job as my friends easily found temp.jobs, pero ang dami naman nag-aagawan sa trabaho and madalas underpaid pa.I expected that job in adelaide will most likely be difficult to find...kaunti lang population and it is a tradie region. I am.ipen though to volunteer work just to have an aussie-work related experience.

Madami din mga online websites where you can apply. Yes, I plan to do volunteer work as well after my placement since most employers would prefer oz experience and work references.

@jillisraju Hi, depende sa course but based on our experience medyo mahirap. You need some external source for your tuition fee. Ang per hour rate dito nasa around 16/hour up and if you're a student (572) you're only limited to 20 hours a week except when you're on your school break wherein you can work on fulltime hours. :)

June 16, 2013 Arrival in Melbourne (AGED CARE)
Nov 12, 2014 Changed Visa Subclass (572->573) and Course
    Nov 13, 2014 573 Visa Approved
Mar 2015 Nursing Conversion Course (Deakin Uni) started
April 13, 2016 Lodged EOI thru Skill Select
April 27, 2016 Received invitation to apply for Visa 189 (Nurse)
May 2, 2016 Lodged application for 189 Visa (Onshore)
May 11, 2016 CO contacted for Form 80/Medicals of daughter
June 17, 2016 189 VISA GRANTED Thank you my amazing God :)

@GoldSeeker yes, i have 4 online job portals which i subscribed for weekly job alerts. Ano po field ninyo? Parang aside sa luck, nasa demand field.kaso naman as students and with 20hrs work limit eh retail palagi ang bagsak, which is okay than fast food.mas pagod dun compared sa magtiklop ng damit :)
San po kayo sa city? I have my accomodation at Brompton Area via student rooms.com.au
I hope i could touch base with you, para since maiwan ko husband and son ko sa pinas,i need all the support like friends kase tahimik dyan, baka mabaliw ako.haha.city girl po kase ako. Kahit sa farm namin sa batangas, ayaw ko mag-stay. :)

@kymme Hello! thank you sa pag reply. Pero kung susubukan ba, kaya isupport sarili mo? ang advantage ko kasi hindi ako magbabayad ng rent sa house since may relatives ako dito. Pero kaya ba isupport sarili to pay tuition fees? Thank you in advance sa pag sagot po.

@jillisraju nope.49K course fee ko,and my brother-in-law is supporting me. Kaya nga gusto ko mag-part time para daily food/transpo masagot ko na.
    I really think its difficult to self-support your study. With 20$/hour sa 1 month or 80hours $1,600 lang yun. Food(walang take out ) nasa 150/week,transpo pa,phone call/credits.
