Are you talking about applying for a job? Or getting assessed for migration? If it is the second one, you might want to try out getting assessed for Pre-Primary Teacher instead, because Primary Teacher is NOT on the Skilled Occupations List.

Hello! I am new here. Although, I've read some comments here and I think have been really helpful on giving me background info about getting a job or moving to Aus, I am still confused and lost. hehe

I want to move to Aus, and where do I start? I have been teaching for years - 3 years in kindergarten and 4 years as SPED teacher. A graduate of BS Psych and currently finishing my MA psych (will graduate this first sem). I lack teaching units too, and will enroll in PNU for CTP and hopefully acquire teaching license by April next year.

Hope to hear from anyone soon. Thank you! :)

Hello! I am currently working in a montessori preschool/childcare centre in Australia. It would be advantageous for your wife to have the necessary specialised experience if she's planning to work in a montessori centre in Australia as well.

Anyway, yes, it's possible for her to apply as long as she has the qualifications for it. The first step is to take the IELTS (PTE and TOEFL are not accepted) with a score of at least 8.0 in Speaking and Listening and at least 7.0 in Reading and Writing. When she's done with that, the steps will generally be similar to other Visa 189/190 applications:

    -Assessment through AITSL
    -EOI through SkillSelect
-Lodge visa after receiving invitation to apply
    -Wait for visa grant

    @lululucil
Hello! In your case, you should probably wait to get teaching units because the AITSL assessment will require you to have a teaching degree and teaching practicum. After that, you could proceed with taking the IELTS and the rest of the steps in applying for a visa. Otherwise, you might want to check if Psychologist is in the list of Skilled Occupations List so you can apply for that instead of teaching.

Hello. My wife is planning to apply as an early childhood teacher. We're currently working in Singapore and she's working as an early childhood teacher also at the same time she's trying to finish her diploma in early childhood psychology. One thing is not very clear, she has no degree nor diploma in early childhood, will she be able to qualify for early childhood assessment, if not any other options we need to take? Please help to enlighten us so we can start with our journey into a lifetime.

Hello, fellow teachers! I'm looking for a school I can apply in that gives sponsorship to overseas applicants. I just got an approved qualification from ACECQA, however, I'm still in the Philippines.

@sunflower hey! Thanks for the reply. Does it have to be educ degree? Or the certificate program would suffice na? Re my elligibility to take LLET, I just need 12 educ units. Pwede na ba yun? Or should i really need to get the 18 units so it can be additional advantage for me AITSL?

IF i need to get educ degree, pwede na ba na kahit dito lang sa pinas? I dont need to study in Aus anymore? Super thanks!!

Re the practicum -- can my7 yrs in teaching would count? thanks again! :)

The AITSL requirements for Pre-Primary School Teacher Assessment for Migration are as follows:

    1. Four years full-time (or part-time equivalent) university level study
    2. 45 days of supervised teaching practice with students across the ages of birth to 8 years
    3. English Language Proficiency (minimum of IELTS 7.0 for Reading and Writing, 8.0 for Speaking and Listening)

    Source: http://www.aitsl.edu.au/assessment-for-migration

So if you cannot satisfy all of those requirements, you will not be given a positive assessment for that occupation.

    @lululucil
If you do decide to get an Educ degree, yes, pwede namang sa Pinas. And no, 7 years of teaching experience is NOT counted kasi hindi yun supervised teaching practice.

    Hi everyone!

I am a high school teacher here in the PH planning to migrate to Australia. At the end of the year, I'll have 3 full years of work experience in teaching secondary level. I'm now planning to take the IELTS soon. If ever I get a good IELTS score (let's say 8 on all-very optimistic hehe), what options are open to me to enter as an immigrant?

    Thank you so much!

    Hello!
I am also an ECE teacher. I want to process my 189 visa application on my own. Education and employment history are straightforward, no complications and no dependents. Do you think I still need an agent? Just weighing my options because compared to ofher fields like IT or Engineering, there are less posts about Education specifically Early Childhood educators. I would appreciate your opinion.
    Thanks!

The process is definitely doable even without an agent, especially since you mentioned that there are no complications in your situation. Basically ang gagawin lang ng agent for you is to submit your requirements/application. Just do some research about the process, they're all here in the forum or there are posts in this thread as well: http://pinoyau.info/discussion/6134/early-chilhood-teachers-in-au

Congratulations on getting your 190 visa! :)

There are different (but similar) processes depending on which state you are going to live in. In Queensland, the process will be:

    1. Complete teacher registration through Queensland College of Teachers (there are different registration bodies, depending on the state)

    2. Apply for a blue card

    3. Apply for a job

In my case, I applied for teacher's registration months before I was granted a visa and months before I migrated to Australia since the process takes a few months (5 months, in my case before my teacher's registration was granted).

Also, is your wife applying as an Early Childhood, Primary School or Secondary School Teacher?

Yes, same score requirements as AITSL: at least 8.0 in Speaking and Listening and at least 7.0 in Reading and Writing. Otherwise, another option is for her to forego with the teacher's registration and just study a Cert III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care / Children's Services and work as an assistant/educator in a childcare centre instead of a Kindergarten teacher.

Also, may suggestion po kayo kung anong pwede maging temporary job ng isang teacher jan without registration (like teacher's assistant)? Thanks uli, God bless

Ah yes BOSTES sa NSW. And as far as I know, same IELTS requirement din sa kanila.

A diploma course through Tafe or other RTO (registered training organisation) can take about a year or so.

Like I mentioned, to work as at least an assistant in an early childhood setting, she'll have to study either a Certificate III or diploma. Take note though that she can apply/start working as soon as she has enrolled in the course. So kahit hindi pa niya natatapos yung qualification, pwede parin siya magwork in an early childhood setting.

I'm not very familiar with what it takes to be a teacher's assistant. She'll just have to watch out for the requirements mentioned in job advertisements from Seek and so on.

Now that you have been granted a visa, you and your wife are both free to apply for ANY legal job that will take you. You will not be limited to the skilled job that you applied for. So yes, she can apply for odd jobs, such as a receptionist job. :)

    Hello everyone.

I just wanted to share my experience regarding IELTS. I always struggled to get the desired results for IELTS. For some reason, I always got 8-9 in reading, speaking and listening but, ended up getting 6.5 in writing. I was frustrated so, I searched for another test and I took ISLPR. I got the desired results in one take. So, for those who are already in Australia but struggling to get the desired scores for IELTS, give ISLPR a try.

@sunflower Hello. I just wanted to ask a question regarding early childhood education. I am actually taking up certificate iii in early childhood education and care and I have applied to be a provisionally registered teacher in Victoria but, my qualification is secondary education. But, I think I will be able to teach primary levels also. If this is the case, do I just have to take diploma in early childhood education to be able to teach in kindergarten/ pre-school?

    Thank you.

If you are already working towards your Cert III qualification, then you'll be eligible to work in an early childhood setting as an educator, just not as a Kindergarten teacher.

Have you tried applying for jobs in a childcare centre yet?

@sunflower Thank you for the information. I haven't applied for jobs yet. I think they prefer those who already have certificates/ diploma. I am actually quite confused regarding the equivalent qualification to ECT. I read that you need primary teacher qualification, must be registered as a primary teacher and currently enrolled in diploma/ higher diploma in early childhood education and care. I think if I am registered as a teacher in VIC, I can teach both primary and secondary levels. But, my qualification is still under secondary education. So, does that mean I still cannot be an ECT even after applying for diploma?

And also, may I know what cert III educators usually do in centres?

Thank you and sorry for asking too many questions.

Not necessarily. You are eligible to apply for a job in a childcare centre as long as you are already working towards/enrolled in a Cert III or diploma course.

If your qualification is for secondary education, then you cannot be an ECT. However, you can still be an educator in a childcare centre as long as you are enrolled in a Cert III or diploma course.

Let me enlighten you with the early childhood system in Australia. Kindergarten in Australia is NOT required and NOT part of the school system. Usually, children from 0 - 5 years old attend a childcare centre or a kindy, as they call it, when parents are at work.

Educators in a childcare centre include: those who are working towards their Cert III/diploma qualifications, those who have a Cert III qualification, those who have a diploma qualification, those who have an ECT degree.

If you have a Cert III, you can work with children from 0 - 5 years as an assistant.

If you have a diploma, you can work with children from 0 - 5 years and you can also be a group leader/team leader.

If you have an early childhood degree (e.g. Bachelor of Early Childhood Education), then you can work as the early childhood teacher in the room and deliver the Kindergarten program.

The educators have similar roles: facilitating group time with the children, programming, writing learning stories, etc. Mainly sa paperwork and sa sweldo nagkakaiba depending on what qualification you have. Siyempre pag ECT ka, mas mataas sweldo compared to someone who finished a Cert III.

If my explanation is still confusing, feel free to read more here:
