Hi! Just accepted an offer to work in a company for 55k per year . Work location is Tuncurry, New South Wales. Employer is working on 457 visa. Kasya n b to live decently in NSW? Considering the tax, medical insurance, rent and schooling of children. Anybody in similar situation.

@rainman, mahirap i-gauge . But if you are holding 457 visa hindi ata libre schooling pag ganun pero sa iba state libre kahit 457 visa holder. Depende talaga sa lifestyle pero kung kami family of four kakayanin namin yan

Thank you for all the replies. Would it be too tight ? My wife will try to find work but we need to prioritize the children. The work location is outside of Sydney.. Would the cost of living be less?

It will be tight. I suggest check the cost of public and private school for your kids. In our case it is cheaper to send the kids to private rather than public on 457 visa. Every state is different in AU. Consider cost of health insurance, housing, food, utility bills and transportation. Look for a house close to school (walking distance)....

@merc2013 nabasa Ko Sa ibang thread cheaper daw to send the kids to systemic catholic school. May I know how much are the fees per student per month? Our plan is I go first and then after 6 months or less my wife and children will follow. Sayang Ksi din yun opportunity and I heard of a lot of good things about Australia

@rainman good idea yung 6months ikaw muna sa nsw, then apply ka na ng pr while on 457 visa para by the time na susunod na sila, maximise mo benefits sa school fees

You need to be with your employer for at least 2 years before you can apply for a PR on 457.

55k per annum would be $796 per week kung kasama na sa 55k mo yung superannuation, if not $855 per week. i would suggest na mauna ka na and settle here first.. mag ipon ng konti before sumunod si wife and kid mo.. para atleast di kayong tatlo yung tight ang budget pagdating dito.

$350-$400 yung bahay outside sydney metro. so half na agad nung net mo.. then you need to pay insurance pa which is required sa 457 visa probably $200pm.

Kami ay family of 5, both working kami ni hubby. Temp visa din dati pero naka survive naman. nakakaipon kahit may loan na car. Advantage kung pareho my work.
sa public school lng 3 kids namin and maliit lng naman school fees.

@maccebu, I am a single parent of two kids. And both of them sa public school lang. we started out as 457 Visa holder and nag apply and got the exemption to pay school fees. I ended up paying around 1.5K per year for both of them. Pag may kids, malaking tulong ang car lalo na during drop off and pickup from school. Yung public transport kasi dito, may schedule and designated stops. So if may car ka, you don't have to wait for bus schedules(which runs every 30 mins) plus di pagod ang mga bata kakalakad lalo na pag medyo malayo yung school-house-work. Mas cheaper din sya if family of 3+ than taking the public transport.

If you don't mind, how old are your kids? Nung 457 Visa holder pa kami, close to 55K per year din lang ang nakukuha ko. It was hard, but not impossible. The bulk of my salary goes to our rent and child care payment since that time, hindi pa school age yung bunso ko. I got lucky din na I can work from home noon 4x a week and once a week I have to put my kids to child care(100AUD per day) and before/after school care(50AUD per day). So kung walang magaalaga ng kids mo, and you can't work from home majority of the time, hindi kakayanin. Pero kasama mo naman misis mo eh, so I don't think child care cost will be a problem for you.

@batman and @aanover maraming salamat. ok lang pala yong public school dyan..nag se search palang ako sa mga gastusin kong sakali maka jump over kami dyan para alam ko kong mag kano kitain pra hindi hirap pag dating dyan.. ako lang ata mag wowork.. si misis stay in lang sa bahay at bantay bata.. 7 and 5 po yong mga kids namin and are into swimming.. parang wala na ata 457 na visa ngayon, ano kayo mga options?.. hopefully, meron pa yong employer na mag sposponsor ng visa, I am targeting around 80k/annum (hope kasya nato for a family of 4, malaki pero libre naman mangarap) sa mga universities.. kasi nasa university din ako ngayon nag tratrabaho.. hopefully pag palain ng panginoon..

House - 350 a month all inclusive utilities - 1 bedroom granny flat
Water and electricity - included sa rent
Insurance - 157/month (NIB)
Phone and internet - company provided
School - 750/kid/year
Child Care - 100/day
Before and After School care 50/day
Food - 350 a month family of three ( 1 adult, 2 kids) labas dito yung kain sa labas

We are planning na while looking for a job is to stay muna sa granny flat for like 3mos max then after nalang hanap ulit depende sa location na makukuhang work. Mas preferred kasi namin ang granny flat para may privacy compared sa room lang may baby din kasi kami

@Superched, when you say flexible, do you mean length of stay? I was in the same situation like you, before I was just planning to rent it out for a period of 6 months - napakiusapan naman nuon yung landlord, upfront I told him na intial 6 months lang muna kami and he was fine with it. Now, we've been here for almost 2 years, di magawang lumipat because of the kids' school. Isa pa, laking tipid compared to the rental properties around our area.
