    @thegreatiam15,

drug addiction normal? can you cite some stats mate?

though there are more juvenile delinquent here that where we lived before (Singapore) but I really find it disturbing that you label seeing an "adik" kid normal...

overall i would still find it safer to raise my kids here in Australia than in the Philippines...
This actually intrigued me, so I did a quick research.

Based on the 2011 UN World Drug Report, the use of illicit drugs among adults (15-64 y/o) for the Philippines and Australia came in at:

Cocaine: less than 0.1% Philippines, 1.9% Australia
    Cannabis: 0.8%, 10.6%
    Amphetamines:2.1%, 2.7%
    Ecstasy: 0.2%, 4.2%

So the Philippines is actually coming in several points lower than Oz in terms of drug use, at least looking at these four groups of drugs.

The statistics is closely tied up with the global market price of these drugs, vis-a-vis the countries' economy (i.e. people living in a country with better economy have more ability to purchase the drugs).

Looking at the trends however, the numbers have been steadily declining for Australia (and other Oceanic countries in general), at a much faster rate than the Philippines. I reckon its partly because of the policies, regulations, and implementations against illegal drugs, and partly because its a lot harder to get the drugs from China, Malaysia, and Indonesia down to Oz.

Of course the research looks at it from a macro-perspective, and fails to account for a lot of things, and valid arguments can be made for and against the numbers. Then again, at the end of the day, it all boils down to how you raise your child.

hehe, a close friend of mine (local), actually migrated to Perth, but before doing so, binenta nila flat nila, car, and umutang sa mga local banks sa Singapore ng approx 15K each.. tapos 1, 2, 3 ,4 takbo to downunder. Yan, written off the utang nila. hehehe.. I was thinking of doing the same thing pero, kunsensha lang habol sayo hehe... But I was thinking of politicians can eat our millions why can't we little people haha joke lang po.
May Singaporean din pala gumagawa nito? AHhahaha... :)
Hala! Wala na bang habol si Citibank SG (for example) if nasa Australia ka na? Or let's say uuwi kang Pinas? Kahit may ibinigay kang complete Pinas home address sa Citibank?

They'd their credit/financial rating tarnished. What if they've decided to pave a visit to relatives in Sg? They have a centralised system to track this circumstances.

I reckon a friend who went overseas to work and left all his credit card liabilities with the bank. Two years later when his condo unit is up to be turned over, he is asked to pay the remaining balance of the contract price in Cash or through bank financing.

The credit due reflected and they were asked to settle it first with a huge interest amounting to hundreds of thousands. He had no choice but to agree with the settlement otherwise his investment is at stake.

    @thegreatiam15,

Most Australians are into fitness. Do not worry kung mahilig man mga anak mo sa gadgets, theyll still find time to go to gym, running and biking are very visible sa streets. Not to mention san ba nanggaling c wolverine?

Ska part na ng culture d2 ang advanced technology kaya never mong mapipigilan mga anak mo to have. One thing that u can let them hav is a good guidance.

    I disagree.

It starts with family but you need a whole community to raise a child.

    On a separate topic.

School encourage childrens of immigrant families to speak, live and apply their culture at home. Wag daw alisin yun sa bata. Like saying 'Po' or 'Opo', pagmamano sa matanda etc etc.

Gadgets are part of learning tools, they even encourage students to use laptop or mobile devices.

Pati nga early readers meron ng account sa internet (see : Reading Eggs for 4 year old). They even have its own FB account to update students of school announcements.
But they are also promoting activities to develop physical improvements like free swimming lessons for early swimmers, Sports Carnival every term (parang olympics), and after school activities like martial arts, dancing etc etc.

good day po sa lahat. I've been lurking here sa forum and have been reading a lot.
My wife and I decided to migrate to Australia vs Canada. We felt that long term, we'd be better off having a family sa OZ.
May mga tanong po ako regarding some of the decisions we're considering. I hope that this community will be able to help us.
    1. Where's the best state to live in OZ in terms of climate? We're from Baguio and sobrang sanay kami sa cold climate, but not too cold naman.
    2. Where is it better to work in terms of pay and work availability? My wife is a nurse and ako naman, working sa call center. Wife has been working for 7 yrs sa profession, ako, although nurse, preferred the office type of job. Saan po kaya mas mainam magtrabaho as a nurse and for me, sa office set-up.
    3. Where is it best to raise a child? We have a son turning 2 and ang worry namin, like all parents, is how he will be raised.
Meaning, should we also consider sa future ng pagstay namin jan kung saan mas mura ang bahay vs renting an apartment.
    5. Saan din po kaya mas maraming pinoy? :) Although the plan is to migrate, we'd like to feel closest to home, and having plenty of pinoys sa isang community would be a very nice thing.

Bigla kong naalala yung thread na to. Next month will be our first year anniversary here in Australia. Spent almost 12 months here in Melbourne. Also, we already visited Sydney and Canberra. Spent 6 years in Singapore and more than half of my life in Philippines.

My rating 10 being the highest/best; 5 being neutral; 1 being lowest/ worst

    1) Weather - Melbourne 9 (i like winter/autumn but i hate summer); Pinas - 5 (mainit, maalinsangan, samahan pa ng polusyon); Singapore 7 (same weather like pinas, init at tag-ulan, except bagyo and pollution)

    2) Shopping - Melbourne and Singapore 8 (mostly online shopping naman ako via ebay); Pinas 7 (madaming malls)

    3) Security and Crime - Australia as a whole 7 (medyo madami dami din krimen at siraulo dito, you can check it sa mga newspapers, tv's and Facebook pages e.g. 7 news); Singapore = 10 (one of the safest place in the world if not the safest); Pinas = 5 (dapat street smart at umiwas sa mga delikadong lugar)

    4) Quality of Life (i find it subjective) = Australia 8; Singapore 8; Philippines 6

    5) Transportation = Australia 8 (madalas na sirang train/ faulty system, mabagal na reaction ng myki, delayed/ cancelled train; 30-45 mins waiting time for buses especially for new suburbs); Singapore 10 (SMRT and SBS and EZlink system is unbeatable/ world class. During rush hour, the MRT coaches interval is 1-2 mins only, less than 5 instances of train faulty on my 6 yrs of stay there); Pinas 6 (nothing to say)

    6) Infrastructure = Australia 7; Singapore 9; Pinas 5

    7) Efficiency and Convenience = Australia 7; Singapore 9; Pinas 5

    8) Food= Australia 8; Singapore 8; Pinas 9 =) (panlasang pinoy)

    9) Internet = Australia 8; Singapore 10; Pinas 5

@vhoythoy ayos to ah... kakagaling ko lang ng melbourne for IED, i think kelangan lang linawin natin ang transporation to be "public". kasi most aussies drive, in fact, brand new mercedes benz nakita namin ay $35K lang! apart from that, agree ako sa comparisons since 5 years narin ako dito sa SG :)

pero ung wagas at ultimate factor na single-handedly nagti-tilt in favor of OZ para manalo is immigration policy :) if scale 1 to 10, i'll give OZ 100 (yep, hindi to typo 100 talaga) lalo na kung iko-kompara mo sa singapore :) sa singapore, naramdaman ko bigla na disadvantage ung pagiging pinoy mo kasi hindi siya flavor of the month, compared to malaysian chinese.

Yup most aussies drive, but mostly iniiwan nila yung car nila near train station then nag-commute nalang going to office. Kasi traffic kapag umaga, particularly here in western suburb plus mahal parking sa city at mahirap mag drive sa city (i.e. daming consider like hook turn, bike train, camera, trams, police etc.). Pero cguro depende din sa suburb, basta dito sa west madalas sira, pero lately medyo wala naman problema, last year lang cguro kaya 8 pa rin sya (not bad at all). Sobrang mura naman 35k mercedez benz na brand new. Baka lumang model yan or something. A brand new lexus sedan might be around 65k and mini cooper is 50k i think

During rush hour, the MRT coaches interval is 1-2 mins only, less than 5 instances of train faulty on my 6 yrs of stay there); Pinas 6 (nothing to say)
mag 4yrs nako dito sa sydney, pero yung mga delay na naexperience ko siguro mga less than 10 lang, pero understandable naman because of the said reason.

as for the buses, nde pako naka-antay ng more than 10mins dito samen.

Pero one thing I observed, AU is not US. If you have family, maybe you would like AU pero stay away from Sydney coz owning a house here is ridiculous. Mapapaisip ka how did that old house cost 700K to 1M yun ang Sydney. Siguro maybe I always compare AU to US na you can afford to buy branded items at clearance price pero dito sobra mahal at bihira magsale. Ang hirap din maghanap ng work madami na rin siguro competition kahit casual I thought going here in PR visa can landed me a parttime or casual work for the mean time while searching for the real professional job pero it wasn't easy ang dami applicants and most company will opted to choose those with local experience even on casual position. It is frustrating I am only speaking based on my experience. Others may not have the same opinion as mine. But this is AU as I see it, mataas din ang tax dito mataas ang cost of living pero sabi ni laidback daw. I don't know how laidback could it be based on the job you will be getting into.

@xiaolico i even compared it to pinas din. narealized ko na ive only gotten away from the busy and hussle traffic in manila pero i miss everything my family and all that i can buy in manila lalo na yun filipino food. dito seldom you can see filipino restaurant and ang mahal din ng tinda ng filipino goods syempre imported tapos yun jollibee nakakamiss sobra wala nun dito, a kilo of shrimp is $24 kaya kumain na kayo ng marami seafood sa pinas. i can even eat at mcdonalds for 50 pesos dito $8 those simple things you took for granted mapapaisip ka ang mura pala ng bilihin sa pinas. well, it all depends on your priority if you have decided to settle here you would know the pros and cons.

@xiaolico to be fair, the pros i see it here in AU is that it is nearer to PH than being in US or CA at may cebupscific that can take you back to PH pag may promo fare for less amount. pero going anywhere from AU to any parts of the world like Japan, US, Europe would really slash a big amount in your pocket siguro daan ka muna ng pinas to take the to your destination. If you plan to go on a trip in NZ, mas mura ang airfare. you have a medicard in AU but you still have to queue for service and many are getting private health insurance due to the govt will subject you to higher levy under medicard alone so parang even lang with medicard and private insurance. Au standard wage is around 20$ or higher pero companies are not restricted to give lesser of that min wage pwede $15 d ko rin gets bakit ganun. laidback at malinis ang hangin dito pero sira ang ozone layer kaya better to get a good sunblock.

@xiaolico ill definitely go back to pinas after getting citizenship sa AU at makapagipon para sa investment papadual ako para may back door from PH or try in other country kung kaya pa ng powers ko to start all over again if not then stay in PH for investment. if only we have efficient govt id rsther stay pero need to prepare for the future kaya im taking risk. but then to each is own, you might see something here that i dont see.
