Medium and Long‑term Strategic Skills List

Short‑term Skilled Occupation List

Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) have released the new Skilled Occupations List (SOL) for 2017-18.

This list comes into effect from 1st July, 2017.

The Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) will be applicable for Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent Visa), Subclass 489 (Skilled Regional Provisional Visa who are not nominated by a State or Territory government agency) and Subclass 485 (Graduate Temporary Visa) visa applications.

The Short‑term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) will be applicable for Subclass 190 (Skilled—Nominated visa) or Subclass 489 (Skilled—Regional (Provisional) visa.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton in a press release stated, this ‘update will ensure the lists continue to reflect genuine skill needs in the labour market.’

As part of its reforms to skilled migration announced in April, the Government will update the lists on a six monthly basis to ensure the best outcomes for Australian workers and employers alike.

The updated lists are based on extensive consultation with industry and advice from the Department of Employment and the Department of Education and Training.

The Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton said, "The occupation lists are designed to be dynamic. Revisions to the occupation lists are just one element of the Government's reforms strengthening the integrity of Australia's employer sponsored skilled migration programmes and raising the productivity of skilled migrants."

MANDATORY CRIMINAL CHECKS INTRODUCED
All visa applicants are now required to undergo mandatory criminal checks as part of their application.

MAXIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT LOWERED & ENGLISH TEST TIGHTENED
From 1 July 2017, all permanent skilled visas will have tightened English language and lower maximum age requirements.

@suepisces20 Base sa Occupation nyo...TRA ang assessor nyo...You need to be assessed first by TRA para marecognize yung 5 years experience ng husband mo. Here is the link of the TRA:

Here are the things you need to know for Subclass 489:

Here are the things you need to know about skilled visa sc 190:

Hi @suepisces20 I am not familiar with the Visa 489. Visa 190 mejo familiar ako. 3670AUD yung for visa lang. Wala pa yung sa assessment mo and state nomination fee kung sang state mo gusto. Not sure how much assessment fee for TRA. The state nomination fee depends on the state you want to apply. I suggest check each state immigration sites and look where in demand yung Occupation ng husband mo. I think Queensland (Brisbane) and South Australia (Adelaide) yung in demand butcher.

Hi @reah Just in the news: "the government’s changes from March 2018 make it harder for foreign students to stay on after their studies".

Pag-isipan mong mabuti. If you can go via PR visa, just go straight. Below is the link to the full article.

Hi po sa lahat. Clarification po sana dito "The Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) will be applicable for Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent Visa), Subclass 489 (Skilled Regional Provisional Visa who are not nominated by a State or Territory government agency)" yun visa po sana na applyan ko ay 489 for family sponsored pero yun job na inominate ko po asa short term list. Ibig po bang sabihin nito hindi na po ako pwede mag Apply ng visa kahit sponsored po ng family? Thanks po.

Hi @luckygirl it should be quick if you've got positive assessment and complete documents. I know that there's a thread regarding filo teachers here at pinoyau. All the best.

All the best @luckygirl . I'd say working in school with the DET (here in Victoria) is great (so far as my experience is concerned).

@filsgoz what is DET? I read the thread about Filipino Teachers in Australia, but then most of the discussions are all about Early childhood education. I'm looking for an experienced secondary school teacher who teaches home economics. do you know someone who worked there? thanks.

@luckygirl Department of Education and Training (DET) here in Victoria. You may find that each state has different teaching practice areas required. Here in Victoria you've got to have two teaching practice areas eg Science and Maths or Economics and Business. And then which specific levels (Middle, Junior, Senior).

I'd assume you haven't gone through assessment of qualification yet as teaching area would've been one of the questions.

    Gday!
