Driving in SA

Hello po sa mga taga SA. Not sure if may discussion na about this. Pero ask ko lang po sana how’s the process po ng pag-convert ng PH license jan? I understand po na you can use it for 3months lang. So within that 3 months dapat po ma-convert na agad?

And I have read something about PIDP (Philippines International Driving Permit), which is valid naman daw for 1year from date of application.

@supermadi Hi, If you hold a permanent visa, you have to convert your license within 90days. You have to pass 3exams (similar to VIC) - Theory test, hazard perception test and the actual driving exam. Once you get your learners, your Ph license will be invalid so you won’t be able to drive by yourself.

@supermadi I’m not sure with SA pero with VIC hindi na kinailangan pa yung PIDP. Yung Ph license was enough.

@supermadi No worries. Hope you’ll get your grant soon. Make sure to upload everything including your medicals so you’ll have a chance for a direct grant. All the best!

@supermadi, my suggestion is to convert your PH license to SG license para conversion na lang pagdating sa SA kung PR ka.

Pag hindi PR, kung tama ako, you can use your PH license until mag expire siya or until maging PR ka then convert your SG license to AU license.

Thank you po.

@supermadi, hindi PR ang 489 pareho tayo. We have to apply ng 887 after 2 years para maging PR and dapat with 1 year working experience (minimum yata 35 hours per week?)

I got my SG license a few months para pag naging PR baka pwede na conversion na lang.

You can convert your Ph licence kahit 489 visa ka...di ka covered nong 90 days conversion kasi di nga PR so you can use your Ph licence hanggang gusto mo basta di lang expired. I converted mine within 3 months kahit naka 489 pa ako. Eventually icoconvert mo pa din eh. In SA, 1. Take the theory test and hazard perception test, pag pumasa 2. Do the practical driving test( within a timeframe yata). If you can convert your PH to SG licence before coming, wala ng exam and practical driving test, automatic conversion na

@fgs Thank you po, good to know.

@fgs, Thank you. Akala ko kelangan pa mag expire ng SG or PH license bago magconvert kasi that's my understanding sa policy ng AU. Kung pwede na pala agad convert at nagawa nyo mas okay.

Students, visitors and people working in South Australia on temporary visas can drive with an overseas licence as long as that licence has not expired.

You can only drive the same type of vehicle as your current overseas licence allows, and you must comply with any conditions on that licence.

You must carry one of these at all times when driving and show it, along with your passport, to police on request:

a current overseas licence that is written in English
a current licence with an English translation or an international driving permit.
If your licence expires while you are here and you are unable to renew it, you will have to apply for a South Australian driver's licence.

@supermadi I came here in SA last Dec 2017 and drove my car using my PH licence (although yung car ay pinangalan muna sa name ng sister-in-law ko) until I got my SA licence. I took the Theory test in mid Jan. Then, the Hazard Perception test the following week. Nung naipasa ko yung Hazard Perception, they gave a Temporary Driving Permit with 3 mos. validity. Good thing ay nag-i-issue sila ng Temp Permit for another 3 mos. Anyways, just after a week na ma-reissue yung permit ko ay nag-take ako ng Practical Test.

    @supermadi

    Great info from @egroj1002

I add ko lang. Regarding visa type 489, you can use your valid PH license until TR pa yung status mo. But as soon as you get your PR visa you will need to get the drivers learning permit (as mentioned by egroj1002) and with that you have 12 months to convert it to an AU license.

Btw with SG drivers license, it's much easier to convert your driver license into a AU SA license. I believe you don't have to take the actual driving exam.

@Ren Thank you po for the info. :)
