Do I need to be assessed by Vetasses if my school is Section 2 and GWA is more than 2.0?

tesutesu quezon cityPosts: 37Member
Hello guys,

Tanong lang po about Vetassess. I am a NON-ICT (Business Ad) graduate and took RPL to get Suitable assessment po galling kay ACS. I already lodged my EOI with 75 points and nagclaim na ko ng 15 points for Education without Vetassess. My school (PUP) falls under Section 2 po and I have a GWA of 1.8.

Though Respall confirmed this already that I can claim 15 without Vetassess, mejo nagwoworry pa rn ako hence this post. I know once na reject ung visa application mo d na recoverable ung fee which is scary.

Hoping for your advice mga sirs/maam. Salamat po. :)

Education and work experience are treated separately towards claiming points..If you have positive skils assessment for your nominated occupation then its fine. You can still claim points for your undergraduate degree even if this is not related to your nominated occupation. It should have detailed in your skills assessment the equivalent of your degree to Australian Education Framework( is it equivalent to bachelors degree or Diploma or lower)

Thanks for the reply.actually my route was through RPL Recognised Prior Learning in ACS so the result did not include assessment for the Education.

@tesu VETASSESS has got nothing to do with determining which section your university falls under. All assessing authorities and immigration department refer to Country Education Profile (CEP) through the Department of Education and Training. This government agency is the one responsible in determining the equivalence of overseas qualification to an Australian one. Respall is right, no need for VETASSESS nor any assessing authority to state the equivalence of your qualification. No need for proof as well. All you need is to know which section your university falls under through CEP. Normally, if you have an agent, he/she will just make reference to CEP when lodging your visa application.

@tesu that’s right, ACS will not mention anything about the qualification if it’s an RPL assessment.

@batman wala po kong agent pero nagpainitial assessment po ako kay Respall..at kinompute nila GWA which totalled to 1.8 then since section 2 ung school ko no need na daw pa assess kay Vetassess though pwede nmn daw..nagbabakasakali lang na meron po tayong kasma dito na same situation at umokay naman...just for peace of mind hehe...

@tesu to be honest, I’m not actually sure how an individual would make reference to CEP if they don’t have access to it. As an agent myself, since I’ve got the subscription to CEP, I could make reference to it when I write a cover letter for my client.

You’d probably just have to check which section you fall under. Not sure how others here in the forum do it so you might want to ask those DIY applicants. From there, you can just claim points and the case officer will just verify if you claimed the right points for your qualification using their access to CEP as well. Good luck.

    @tesu
School sectioning has been a rhetoric and debate since my time. Those grads under section 1 school automatically gets 15 pts regardless of their grades. But some claimed they found a forum from MARN few years back that those graduates from section 2 schools with a grade 2.0 (or its equivalent ) or better are awarded with 15 pts. Same thing goes to the board passers with professional license from PRC.

Asking if they had ignored the sectioning even some of them have latin honors, they put themselves in the safe side. They claimed only 10 pts for qualification. But if you claim 15 pts and gamble, your choice. CHEERS.

thanks @pissedball Given how tight is the competition nowadays, looks like i need to gamble..just hoping someone that was on the same situation and was able to get a visa grant would be able to confirm this... :)

This is my problem too. I graduated in a university in the province. I want to check what section my case falls. Can someone give me the link? I have a PRC license pero hindi ako confident sa school and work experience ko.

@pissedball the sectioning has never been ignored. Qualifications from a section 2 university may be recognised as equivalent to an Australian degree subject to meeting certain criteria. Hence, applicants may still be able to claim 15 points in the end. With regards the PRC, if one is a board passer, that’s automatic, 15 points can he claimed regardless if university is from section 1,2 or 3.

    Hope that makes sense.

@cascade if you are a board passer, your qualification is then recognised as equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree.

@cyborg5 there are two authorities to consider in relation to formal qualification. When claiming points, you deal with immigration requirements. You can claim 15 points if qualification is equivalent to at least an Australian bachelor degree, related or not related to your occupation. With regards to the relevant assessing authority, a separate requirement has to meet to get a positive outcome.

I must say, you need to do further reading on both skills assessment and Visa application process. Don’t get confused with requirements between skills assessment vs immigration rules. All the best.

@cascade what is your school? Actually, I think there is a list above under Schools and Section here that you can refer to. Anyway, I can check it via CEP online if you want.

Yes, you’ll need to write a stat Dec for that. Refer to the requirements of VETASSESS. It’s definitely explained there.
