How did you bring other currencies in Aus?

hi guys. some of my savings kasi are in Yen. Kaso mababa yung exchange rate ngayon so di pa namin napapalit. My question is how were you able to bring other currencies in Aus? Tama po ba na ito gagawin namin?
- Change some of our peso to AUD (~1000 AUD) - to be used for transpo, food, etc
- Maintain our local bank account and credit card
- We have saved some USD, so we were thinking of bringing some of it for emergency, and the rest will be used to open an account at Citibank so we can withdraw if in case kulangin kami
- Ilagay sa maleta yung Yen at ipagdasal na hindi mawala yung maleta.

i know this might sound stupid for some, pero i really have no idea what to do. yung bank kasi na napagtanungan namin, sobrang laki ng kelangan na maintaining balance for a yen account kaya hindi na ko ng-open, Kayo ba, how di you mange your finances? May tinira ba kayo na savings sa pilipinas or dala nyo lahat ng savings? if dala nyo lahat ng savings (other currenies), paano nyo dinala? salamat sa sasagot!

open an HSBC account in PH. NO need to bring a lot of cash during travel. When you get here, open an HSCB account and wire the money USD - USD. AUD to AUD or YEN to YEN. CNY to CNY. Maintaining balance in HSBC PH is i think 200K Php or 5000 USD (not sure.. 2008 pa ito..)

In HSBC AU its 2000 AUD and 1000 AUD equivalent for every currency. Dont put a lot of money/bills on your luggage!

@2rmobile: hello po! Followup question lang to what you said. Pano kung in USD yung HSBC account, can I withdraw in AUD in Australia without the need to open a new account there? Yung tipong ATM withdrawal lang? Thanks!

By the way P100k na lang ang maintaining balance ng HSBC currently. Whether you open a Peso or $ account.
    :)

@nadine: yes, you can get an HSBC USD savings acct with an ATM bank card. Pag withdraw mo thru an HSBC atm here maconvert lang thru AUD. Pero i think lugi ka since mataas ang AUD than USD currently. Maybe try to open an HSBC AUD savings acct sa Pinas with ATM bank card? Para AUD to AUD... This case kahit wala ka pang acct dito may access k na sa pera.

Note also when you bring in usd bills may note handling fees ang HSBC AU pag deposit, nagulat ako kasi sa pinas pag nagdeposit ka over the counter alang charge.. D2 meron..

Yup tama ka i think its net worth 100k php. Disclaimer: i do not work for HSBC or any bank.

Hi @2rmobile! Nagtanong na rin ako. Yung $ account nila is default USD. Pero pwede naman mag-withdraw in AUD from the USD account pero over the counter sa Pinas. So, yun na lang ang account na binuksan ko. Concern ko lang talaga na makapag withdraw ako pag dating dyan.

    Thanks sa info. :)
