Hello everyone! Newbie here. I'm a PLE March 2020 taker (last 2 days postponed, unfortunately).
I have plans to practice in AUS as GP.
Paano po ba if nakatapos ka dito sa pinas ng Family medicine residency training?
Plano ko pa sana magsave muna.

maldita . Ask ko lang po doc if mas prefer ng hospitals or clinics sa australia ang ER experience when it comes to hiring IMGs? Or ang clinical experience will be sufficient?

Hello, sorry sa super late reply. Working visa yung kelangan ng kapatid nyo. They need to take the AMC exams then apply for job then apply for visa once with job offer. I would recommend na mag AMC exams sya instead of ulitin med school dito. Hope this helps.

Hi, sorry I don't know the success rates. Most of the specialists that I know did not attempt to apply via the specialist pathway because of the cost. Each college or specialisation also has their own set of criteria.

Hi! welcome to this thread! Sorry to hear about the postponement of the PLE exams. I would recommend that you apply for AMC as soon as possible if you can. The cost of the exams and also some courses regularly increases and it's getting more and more competitive in applying for jobs. But, if you really need to save first, I would suggest that you get into emergency medicine training as it will be useful for when you apply for jobs in the hospital.

Yes, they prefer someone with ED experience and there are more vacancies in ED positions.

Hi, maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I am already a Cardiologist, Electrophysiologist in the Manila area but just recently thought of moving to Australia with my family - I think I would be less stressed (?) and I think it is a safer place to raise my kids. I read in previous posts that it is more expensive (and difficult) to apply for the Specialist Pathway... but mostly I feel bad to not be able to practice EPS, after all that training. I would appreciate it if you can connect me with a specialist here (or you know of any specialists) already practicing his/her specialty in Aus since I will be seeking guidance...

maldita ! Im currently a second year med student from the Philippines. I wish to take my residency, practice, and eventually live in Australia. I read through all the comments and it basically gave me everything i needed to know!
Just wondering if you could provide us with the best timeline to take the AMC exams after graduating med school and 1 year of internship? Or every when do they hold exams for the part 1? When is the best time to apply for jobs in australia? How long would the review classes for part 2 be?

Ideally, you would want to take the AMC exams as soon as possible. If you will be taking it earlier, the cost of the exam would be cheaper (as they tend to increase the price every few years). However, there's only a limited time between your graduation and beginning of internship so I don't think there is enough time to prepare for the exams as compared to after internship.
It depends on where you are planning to take the part 1. The frequency of the exams is less in Manila as compared to Sydney/Oz.
The best time to apply for jobs is after you have passed both AMC part 1 and 2. But, you can start applying even after passing the part 1 exam although most hospitals would prefer to hire someone who has passed both exams.
If you are planning to take a course for part 2 (which is what I would recommend), it would usually take 10 weeks to complete the course and then give yourself 1-2 months to review/role-play with your study partner/s.

Taking up a course will help increase your chance of getting a job as it will look good on your CV too. However, it can be very expensive and I would suggest that you either use the money to take a course for AMC exam and use the time to prepare well for the AMC exams.

Here in Australia, I don't think the hospital where you trained would matter. What matters more to them is your references. Just make sure that you will get good references from your senior/consultants and they will be able to contact them or they will respond to the employer's email or phone call.

Hi @aikrgn, you need to review atleast 1 month full time for AMC part 1 and then longer for AMC part 2, ideally join a 10 week course then review for atleast 1 month after that before taking it. 🙂

Also, by any chance, do you know any review centers or training centers (idk what its called really hehe) for AMC 1 here in the Philippines and AMC 2 in Melbourne or in the Phils (much better)? I'm not sure if you can get sponsored by a relative for your visa but you can get sponsored by your employer for a working visa. AMEX is the review centre for AMC in the Philippines. If you are after a review centre in Melbourne for AMC2, try ARIMGSAS.

Hi, sorry I can't comment on this based on personal experience as I was on a dependent student visa before becoming a permanent resident. You can apply for PR once you obtain your AHPRA general registration.

no, you don't need an Australian visa to be able to take the AMC 1 exam. You can apply for a visitor or business visa if you are planning to enrol in a review centre in Australia for AMC 2. Hope this helps.

Hi, yes it will be the same pathway. Pass the AMC 1 and 2, then apply for hospital job as JMO and then apply for provisional AHPRA registration once you get the job offer, then complete hospital rotations, apply for general AHPRA registration, then apply to relevant college for specialist training.

You need to have your IELTS results when you apply for AHPRA registration. Ideally, do it after passing AMC1 because you will be eligible to apply for AHPRA registration after passing it but you need a job offer as well before you can apply for AHPRA registration. I hope this makes sense.
