Hi, as the title goes, has anybody ever successfully abandoned their old job (after getting a PR and landing in AU), and work on a completely new industry?

How did you do it? Did you take university classes? Or did you take certification/ training or seminars?

Did you just happen to took on a job completely different from your industry while you are in the PH?

For background, I am in the agriculture industry (you can check my signature), and I am still waiting for an invitation, while checking job boards so I can see if there are available jobs for me/ my profession and I’m not seeing a lot. So I was wondering if it is possible to shift industry, should I have trouble finding work if I ever acquire a visa.

I know that this is still a long time before it becomes a problem (still waiting for invites), but I’d like to make plans and be prepared for things that might arise.

If anybody can share their experience. Thanks

Hi, actually looking at all of AU, pero na-notice ko din na mas madaming available sa industry namin on NSW, VIC, QLD and SA. Nag-apply ako ng 190 sa NSW/VIC/ and SA lang.

Yep, I’m fine working in regional areas since most agricultural jobs is dun talaga located.

Yes, when you get your PR visa, you're not required to continue working in your nominated occupation, so you can shift industries. How far is your target job/industry from your current one? Usually if they're pretty close you can get by highlighting your transferable skills. But if they're different lalo na from one specialisation to another, say agriculture to IT, I imagine you'd need to add credibility to your skills/knowledge through some form of education or portfolio—certificates, classes, workshops, etc.

Actually leaning towards same industry padin ako since I already loved working in agri.

Thank you sa advice. I think I will look around sa job postings to see some certifications that they need.

I think some heavy machinery certifications, is necessary, some also require some level of ag certificates. I’m guessing these are TAFE courses. I dunno if these costs some money most likely they do for foreigners.

International student gets higher rate right? Same din ba pag PR ka?

Hi! I've been researching about this kasi I'm eyeing to take my masters after moving to AU. PRs and citizens are considered domestic students and tuition fees are significantly lower compared to international students (non-PR and foreign citizens).

Also, as PR, you can avail CSP which is subject to availability in your chosen program and institution. CSP or Commonwealth Supported Place is a slot or a place in a university/institution where your tuition is partially subsidized by the government. In this case, you'll have to pay an even smaller amount for the tuition once you get the slot. You can avail CSP for 7 study years. So if taking up masters which is normally 2 years ang lenght, you would have 5 more years to use up should you want to pursue further studies.

Kung gano na katagal PR? I don't think so, wala sa list ng eligibility requirements.

Hello this is very informative. Would you know din po what is the estimated average tuition fee for a 2 year master's degree in AU under CSP? I remembered my cousins who are born in AU availed student loans for their bachelor's degree. I'm thinking din po kasi if continue ko yung degree ko in the PH or sa AU when I get the PR. Currently estimate ko for my degree is 6,000 AUD. Thanks

Depende raw sa program and sa university/institution. In one of the programs I was looking at, ganto pricing nila

International Student - 48k annually
Domestic Student- 38k annually
Domestic in CSP - about 9k annually

Also, CSP is not a loan, it's a subsidy. A huge one actually. Iba pa tawag sa student loan but that's for citizens na.

Hi, I want to ask if someone has any experience about this, I am thinking of getting a diploma at UPOU and would potential employers at AU think that the diploma is an asset or since it is a degree (graduate) from the Philippines that it has little leverage??

I am also doing this as an additional credit (pogi points kumbaga) for my current job though. Because if ever mainvite ako and the graduate diploma is not worth it (in terms of AU standards) then I will drop out if matuloy po sa AU.

Any thoughts??

just my opinion, but i think it has little to no value to AU employers since its PHL schooling at regardless kung gaano ka prestigious yung school sa Pinas, no bearing at all.

but if you want it as leverage for the shift in career as the thread title suggests (e.g., a diploma totally different from your original background/undergrad).. then it will be helpful as proof na you're keen to learn that field.
