Good day everyone. I just want to ask what is the best career path for Pinoy architects in Australia. I'm registered and license architect for almost 8 years now and my line of work is more on Project management not architectural design. I have talked to an immigration agent and the initial advise is to get assess by AACA since my profession is on the skilled list eligible for PR. However upon reading the assessment process of AACA, they are more focus in architectural design. I have been watching vlogs and reading forums and someone noted that the architecture curriculum in the PH is not qualified under AACA. Based on my readings, I am thinking of having my skills assessment under VETASSESS for Construction Project Management since this is closer to my work experience. May I know if anyone here has the same case as me? What path did you take? Maraming Salamat po.

My wife is a licensed architect dn more or less 10yrs exp and grad dn sya ng civil eng but not board passer. But we opted to use my profession for skilled migration. Ndi recognized kasi Arch sa pinas but you can explore architectural draftsperson utilizing your archi exp i think meron gumawa nito esp yung mga galing SG na grad ng arki sa pinas. For project managment im not sure kung paano assessment nila but it may require studies in this field either BS or MS. Hope it helps

Opinion lang, dont get assessed by AACA, maliit ang chance na makakuha ng positive assessment bilang "Architect" as your nominated occupation.
Go for Cons.

Most PH architects opt to be assessed for Architectural Draftsperson anzsco, kahit licensed and practicing architect. The only chance to get a successful Architect anzsco is to have a masters degree in architecture and make sure to match what AACA expects for a typical Australian architectural degree. Unfortunately, all architectural degrees in the Philippines are not recognised by AACA based on their curriculum metric (kahit section 1 schools), that's why a masters degree hopefully should supplement what is lacking despite the 5 years bachelors degree we already have.

For construction project manager anzsco, vetassess also requires you to submit an official company organizational chart. I think you would need to have a certain number of subordinates to be considered a "manager" in their assessment. Might not be an issue for you but just FYI.

How many years of your work experience is in PM? If you have more years of exp in PM, get your skills assessment for Construction PM. Otherwise, get assessed for architectural draftsperson.
BS Archi grads in the PH will most likely get a negative skills assessment, unless you have an MArch degree (AACA is looking the highest degree you've completed; and the BS Arch in the PH is not equivalent to an MS/MArch). The credit points allocated to design studio in the PH is different from AU. Design studio in AU is usually double the credit points (if a regular subject is usually 6 credits, design studio is worth 12 credits), whereas in the PH the credits vary depending on the year level. Long story short, kulang ang credits allocated to design studio in PH degree, kahit 10 semesters tayong may studio.
AACA mainly looks to assess educational qualifications, so less emphasis or consideration for work experience (having many years of experience does not automatically compensate for the lack of design studio credits of your PH degree).

I have been working for 9 years now including my 2 years experience prior to board exam. reading at the responses, I guess I have a better chance at Architectural draftperson or even Program/Project Management. Are there requirements specifically for Architectural draftperson that they are requiring? it was indicated naman sa aking contract that I do prepare designs and other technical documents. Thank you.

How many years yung experience mo as designer (post-board)? How about for project management? From what I've heard, if magpapa-assess with VETASSESS, they would deduct more years of experience if your degree is not directly related to the occupation you are nominating.
For example, if your designer work experience is 5 years, then VETASSESS deducts 2 years post-graduation, you can potentially claim 3 years of overseas work exp for migration purposes since directly related yung archi degree sa archi draftsperson. If your PM work exp is only 4 years, and VETASSESS deducts 2-3 years off your experience (because the archi degree is quite different from construction project management), you'll be left with 1-2 years exp only, and you can't claim points for your overseas experience. As per VETASSESS website and info sheet for construction project manager, the archi degree can be considered on a case-to-case basis, depending on the context of your work.
So I guess think about the work you've done so far, if you can potentially claim more points if nominating draftsperson vs construction project manager.

Hi, I'm on the same situation here, I'm an Architect with project management occupation and planning to get Construction Project Manager occupation assessed by Vetassess. Anyone got a positive outcome as an Architect? Mga nakikita ko kasi puro Civil Engrs. ang mga CPM.

Thanks for the response. nacheck ko na sa website ni AACA. Actually mas curious ako sa Architects na nagpaassess as construction project manager (if meron), wala kasi akong design experience, sa site na talaga ako tumagal for 8 years.

May I share po. If I’m not mistaken you can read up the requirements that qualify for “construction project manager” and “architectural draftsman”. If you are able to provide ALL documentation proof to Vetassess for either one then go for that. Newly BM here, and in my experience so far, this paperwork/documentation phase is just to get your foot in and get the ball rolling. Vetassess is just the tip of the iceberg. Better to get this phase over and done with than mull over it. I’ve read many who go try it out and receive positive or negative results and decide on their next step from there. Lodging, waiting for acknowledgement/ invitation, more waiting etc etc. is up next on the ladder. By the time you arrive at your destination, there’s no telling what your actual job is going to be and so far nobody has inquired about what occupation I got assessed while here. The positive result of Vetassess is just to tick one of the many initial boxes. Once the golden visa is in your hands, whatever occupation you got assessed doesn’t seem to matter anymore down the road. Just sharing my perspective po. Hope that helps po. FYI I got positive result for architectural draftsman through Vetassess when I started my documentation journey about 3 yrs ago. Now, im still jobless after 4 months of big move.
