we just moved to nsw, wala akong mahanap na preschool for here..i have called about 20 preschools in our area alone..di pa kasama ung nearby suburbs. talagang wala.. so we have decided na uwi muna sya sa pinas kasi ung cousin nya sa pinas, reading and writing na at 4!
so she is there now.. according sa workmates ko na ozzie, ang uso sa oz is late start of school or take their kids a year back. mandatory schooling is 6 years old pa..so what they do is enroll their child in primary school at 5 but when they turn 6 rather than advance a year ..they make then stay in the same year, that way their kids who are actually 6 will be able to learn reading/ writing more and will be more advance than the kids who are actually 5 years old.
hanap pa kami ng school for my daughter..graheb hirap ng waitlist system.
my brother in law is filipino but born and raised in australia, he's a teacher. he will not advocate na we send our daughter to public school sabi nya if you want your kids to learn and be in good company..go private talaga. so we will see how much private school is.. and how good a school is very suburb dependent. if nasa "bad" suburbs ka.. rampant lunch box bullying. bad suburb is low socio-economic neighborhoods.

When it comes to the facilities/classrooms naman, although it is a state school it far exceeded my expectation. My son's classroom is fully airconditioned, carpeted, with microwave oven and a fridge. So during lunch break, pwede mag init ng pagkain ang mga pupils. Each student is provided with a laptop na ginagamit nila while inside the classroom. Being a state school, I never pay any single penny for his tuition. Ang ginastos lang namin ay pang uniform nya.

Ngayon, cost wise, ano ano ba dapat malaman na mga related gastos sa school? hinahatid nyo ba anak nyo? or school bus?

My daughter goes to daycare.. She is 4 yrs old 92 aud per day and i cant get rebates coz im on a 457 visa. If we dont get p.r. When she starts school apparently i have to pay full tuition for her as an international student. So hopefully i can sort out our pr this year.
I will opt for private school specially one with religion, my aussie/ pinoy brother in law is a teacher here and he says bullying is rampant in public schools. My indian friends who are nurses like me had said the same thing.. Their kids all came from europe na before migrating to oz so english accents na but still bullied. 1 of my indian friend, her son is still in public school but he has learned to fight back kaya lng she has notice him to be swearing na kasi common daw sa school. Pinapagalitan nya pero sabi all my friends are doing it.. Yan sagot palagi. He is only 11 so she is considering moving him kasi yung isang indian when her son was bullied (tinutukso, lunch stolen, etc) she moved him to a catholic school.. Private.
She has notice he is happier in the private school kasi mas smaller ang class ratio and the teacher can monitor them better.
Sa pinas when we were kids di ko na feel na may bullying or manhid lng tayo.. Dont know. Pero dito like yung patiente ko ngayon 13 yrs old.. She cuts herself kasi wala daw syang friends.. Mataba daw sya etc.
Ewan bakit depress yung ibang bata dito when i feel they are so priveleged.
Also we had this conversation sa tea room on our break 3 of us were asians then the rest ozzies, i was telling them about these kids in the bus talking about having sex. Sex education here starts at age 10 at school coz some kids start having sex here by 11!
Nag susmaryasef yun indian friend ko pero sabi ng ozzie na kasama namin when she was 14 her mum started buying her condoms and she was sexually active by 16... Its not a big deal daw. Better be open as parents rather than be strict sabi ng mga ozzie.
Which isnt to unbelievable kasi naka patiente na ako nanay is 14 and tatay is 15. I know values at home pa rin yan but peer pressure here is quite significant. I work with kids and yung teenagers natin sa pinas still playing chinese garter dito talagang a whole new different culture din.
Something to think about for us na may mga anak.. The challenges of raising our kids in a very indpendent culture quite different fom ours.

http://www.international.adelaide.edu.au/living/family/school/ .. For primary schools etc.
http://www.ceosyd.catholic.edu.au/Parents/Pages/enrolment.aspx ... Catholic schools for p.r., citiczens may separte pdf guide for international students
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=527156 .. Discussion about child care rebates or work visa holders
Ayan may links for te non- believers; p
Google nyo lang. you will find more examples. I have personally called the public school and the catholic school in our area and have been told na i need to pay the international student rate if im not pr.
My manager also at work have acknowledge talaga ma there will be difference im tuition as i am not the first who have asked for p.r. After only 6 months on the job kasi sa tuition.
For nurses kasi usually offered visa is the 457 so it is a common problem for us,
I have also called the office for child care rebates.. Sa daycare kasi you can get sana rebates of 20-30% of what im paying daily for daycare but have been told na as a work visa holder i was not eligible for that hence 92 aud per day talaga tuition ng anak ko.
If pr/ citizen if public you only pay for uniforms and a donation. If private, you pay tuition, uniforms pero like that indian friend i have her son's tuitoon is 3k a year... Forthnightly or monthly or quarterly... You can arrange payment method naman.
Constant topic po namin noh asians with kids at work kasi di po joke ang tuition.
I dont know if other people found a way through this.. If meron on same visa as mine and was able to get rebates please share how you did it.

But I would still like my children to be in a school where they will mix with other kids, learn the Australian culture, acquire the OZ accent etc. Of course matutunan din nila yung bad side of things but then that's where we step in as a parent and guide them

.turuan ang bata to speak out.. learn to open up their feelings wag lang iiyak pagmay aaway sa kanila..
Kaya marami cguro dyan mangbully kasi usually mga bata na ganito sa skul kulang sa pansin sa bahay or maxadong inferior sila sa kanila kaya kung makawala sa iba nila i.rerelease ung frustration nila. Pero case to case basis pa rin. Kaya tama si @scorcher dito papasok ang role sa parents to guide them. Importante din kasi ang socialization sa bata be it positive or negative tayo na magscreening sa mga natutunan nila hehehe.. so very challenging sa mga parents na magmigrate talaga kasi we have different norms here in pinas compared sa oz. ^^

Pag alis mu tulog pa ang mga bata..mpag dating mu naman tulog na rin.
Masarap in theory ang work-life balance pero unless you are earning a certain figure like lets say in sydney the articles i have read said that you need at least 100k plus plus annually to live a comfy life here.. Meaning may pangbayad sa mortgage, bills and savings. Bakit may plus plus? It said kasi thats for entertainment, health (emergency funds), travel..
Most people work 8 hours x 5 days. Sat usually alloted for housework.. Sunday lang talaga family time.
And most migrants other than doctors dont reach that mark right away. And even most ozzies dont reach that numbers, kaya the kids are sometimes left on their own devices. And parents though not really there fault din kasi mahal naman talaga cost of living in oz and one must provide for the family sometimes can not follow up, guide or supervise their kids.
I know there is a way.. Pero getting there and finding the balance its not instant specially if one is new in the country. So many adjustments pa to make before makuha yung ideal family life.

Asians in general are very competitive including pinoys and so we want our children to be very good in school. Kelangan alam na ABC and 123 by the age of three. Here in OZ they have a very relax approach to education, not a lot of homework and lots of extra curricular activities and sports which a lot of pinoys including me find shocking. Even young kids who go to child care centres by the time they go to school halos walang alam kasi puro laro lang ang ginagawa sa day care and i know this first hand because I work in child care. If you have young children and you want them be better prepared for school I suggest you find child care centres that offer kindergarten program. There are places that offer these kind of programs like twice a week and children actually learn there and not just play. I know a lot of parents who have their children in child care 3 times a week then 2 times at a kindergarten ang problema nga lang is hatid sundo sa mga bata specially if your working kasi i know here where I live kindergarten places only goes for about 6 hours something like 9 am to 3 pm and theres not before and after school care so kelangan talaga hatid-sundo sa mga bata on time.

Check out the websites of the schools near ur place and inquire how much ung tuition. Nag inquire ako sa public near our place.. Primary school for 5 yrs old sabi we will fall on international students kasi 457 visa din kami hence we have to pay international student rate of 2-3k per year plus uniforms;(
Whereas if p.r. Donation lng tapos uniforms.
