What to expect in AUSTRALIA?--- INDEPENDENT NEWBIES

Hi Everyone. I'm an Industrial Engineer currently working in Dubai. I'm planning to apply as a skilled immigrant in Australia, kaya lang I'm worried and having hesitations kasi I don't have any friends and family relatives who can support me in stabilizing myself when I reached Australia.

Any advice?

    Moving to another country is always a risk. I suggest na pag isipan mabuti...Sa application pa lang ang daming magiging challenges.. (ex. IELTS)... then pagdating sa Au.. job hunting...sabi nga nila dugo at pawis ang puhunan sa pag migrate to Australia.. it will not be easy.. pero at the end.....pag nandito ka na.. have a job... sobrang sulit ng investment...

    if would be good kung may friends and family here in Australia.. pero madami namang success stories na alang kamag anak dito... yung friends..... marami naming pinoy dito.. wag ka lang suplado.. madami kang makukuhang kaibigan..

    One of the things that can help you settle down in OZ is by having support groups. Just like the case of a newly found friend who just arrived Melbourne 3 weeks ago. We first communicated through FB then just a few days ago, me and my wife met him personally. On our part, being able to reach out to him our friendship is our simple way of extending support since we know on the first place that he doesn't have anyone here (relatives, friends, etc)....Anyway, what counts most for us is that we are consistently positive in our outlook in life.....notwithstanding any situation whether it's positive or negative.

    @lock_code2004, matanong ko lang since nakatira ka sa US at ngayon sa Australia pwede mo ba compare kung ano pagkakaiba nila in terms of way of living at saan mas comforable to settle. Salamat, until now i'm still in doubt kung pang AU ako kc my immediate family is in the US pero wala naman ako makita way na maging PR doon unless i found a company na magsponsor sakin ng GC na super hirap ang process at matagal unlike AU may isa pinsan naman ako doon. I'm torn my family needs me here in US gusto ko magstay pero d pwede while AU is welcoming me as PR resident giving me freedom to work and earn a living. haay.

    @orengoreng - i lived in houston which is parang perth din..
    sydney is new york, except 24 hrs ang NYC..... melb is probably LA..
    the difference is mas malaki lang US..at mas maraming city na pwedeng puntahan...
    mas maraming famous landmarks... mas commercialized..

    in terms of way of living.. i would say na pareho lang din..
    hindi mo pwde i compare ang cost of living, dahil magkaiba ng minimum salary..

    i really like houston.. dahil ganun ang gusto kong way of living, parang city na parang province... which i have here in perth as well..

    pumunta ako sa US na walang kakilala.. pumunta ako dito sa AU na wala ding relatives..
    nasa sayo na un kung gusto mo dumali ang buhay mo.. make new friends/connections..

    after 4 yrs pag AU citizen kana.. pwde kana sguro mag stay ng mas matagal sa US.. or can even work there..

    Take note lang na bagsak ang Engineering industry ngayon ah. I am going on my 3rd month here and I am nowhere near an interview or even a positive reply sa mga inapplyan ko in my field and the openings keeps getting fewer and fewer. 3weeks ago, I started to look for other jobs na siyempre kahit papano may sweldo just to get us through the day like document controller, customer service representative, kitchen steward, cleaner, taga-buhat ng boxes for air freights and was declined right on the spot for most of them and yung iba hindi na nagreply.

    It was then nakausap ko yung friend ko na naka-FIFO at may nakausap nga daw siya na local who said that "this is the worst ever condition sa Engineering" na dinadanas ng Australia. So let's just say that we came in at exactly the worst possible time. May balita pa na may malaking Engineering company na nagsara dito sa Perth which means that maraming nakalutang na Engineers sa unemployment table which means more competition for us. Siyempre mauuna na muna yung may mga local experience before us kaya tough luck.

    Anyway I am not bringing out negativity in here pero this is a word from someone with more than 7 years of combined Engineering experience in Piping Design and Mechanical installations both in Ph and Abroad and yet can't be shortlisted for any jobs in the market. Sabi ko nga sa mga kakilala ko, "I am not being negative, I am being realistic."

    Sabi ko nga din baka naman kasi hindi talaga ako marunong kaya hindi din ako tinatanggap. Kaya hindi din natin masasabi kung ano pwedeng mangyari sa iba dito.

    God Bless sa iba at sana ay pagpasok niyo e buhay na muli ang industriya.

    FYI, my wife and I are already discussing the possibility of getting back to the Ph muna uli just until it picks up again at marami na muling opening. The rent is killing us here (240 per week, mura pa yan dahil may kashare kami ng bahay)

    @kadie,

    San ka d2 last time u went here for IED? Mechanical Engr din here. Maintenance background ko, air conditioning and refrigeration.

    @joestrummer,

    Anong field ng engineering ka sir? I think what u jst sed is somewhat true. I do not knw, almost 1.5 months nako d2 and ni 1 call wala, nasa 71+ na ang napasa kong application sa seek, ang most of them related tlga sa work ko. Most of the ad jobs need ng mga licenses like connect disconnect elec license, and arctik license, dana wala nmn aq nun. At hnd dn gnun makuha ung mga un.

    Ang plan ko this coming week, after ng bakasyon namin, magapply muna ng odd job. Kht anu nlng, pero kht odd job mhrp mkpsok, lalo na kung wlang referral. Nalulungkot lng aq feeling ko tuloy hnd ko p nggwa lahat.

    At nakakalungkot lng balita mo para sa lahat ng engineer na katulad ko na wala pa din trabaho.
