i'm now planning/researching the best way what to do with my bank accounts here. im thinking of withdrawing my money and buy AUD here in the Phils. So dala dala ko cold AUD cash on my flight to OZ. I've read from other threads na dapat not exceeding 10K AUD which i do not need to worry kase way below 10K AUD naman ang sakin.

. do you think this is the best thing to do? hindi ba nkktakot na may dalang pera?

i will keep my BPI accounts pala hindi ko sya icclose, this is what I will use kase on remitting money to Phils pag nasa OZ nako at may work na. madali kase online transactions sa BPI. what do u think mga nasa OZ na?

@kremitz, online lang pag open pero im not sure kung pwede over-the-counter. pero ang alam ko pwede ka mag transfer over-the-counter kung may NAB sa pinas. naka-base kasi ako sa SG

Online lang naman yung pag open ng account at within 24 hours or couple of days, mabibigay na sayo yung bank account details mo at pwede ka na din magtransfer ng funds anywhere in the world

last year nag open ako, 4% un interest for 4 months

Mate, bad move... You are losing money converting from PHP to USD then from USD to AUD... Around 5% cguro ang mawalala sa money mo nito.

Added to the fact that mahal magpapalit ng pera dito sa Australia - aside from the FX spread, they also charge a commission.

Best best would be to get AUD directly or transfer your money from PHP to an AUD bank account.

mas makakasave ka kung directly mo ittransfer ang money to your bank account compared sa ipapalit mo to other currency then AUD. tsaka if you are going to bring all your savings, mahirap magdala ng malaking pera papunta. once kasi may account ka na, punta ka nalang sa bank paginating mo dun tapes claim mo na un atm mo, then ayun ok na. tsaka mas malaki un interest nila compared sa bangko ko dito sa singapore

once nandun na si hubby mo, i think no need na mag open pa offshore kasi for sure naman pag nagkawork na si hubby mo magkakaroon na sya bank account. everything will be easy na since may isa ng nakasettle senyo

@jvframos, lapit na pala kayo! Perth ba destination nyo? not sure lang kung gaano kalamig by June dun. Pero sa melb nun nagpunta kami last 2012, start ng spring, in the morning around 5degC un temp. tapos sa tanghali more than 10degc, malamig pa din kahit taas ng araw. siguro same ng temp sa sydney sa perth kasi parang magkalevel sila e haha hula lang.
siguro lowest na 8degc. bring warm clothes nalang, mag layering na din haha

@rooroo, oo nga lapit na. excited na din na kinakabahan. pero uwi muna kami pinas for 2 weeks. 3 years na din kasi kami di nakakauwi kaya yung mga bagahe naming uuwi pa ng pinas. medyo makakapal na jacket na dadalin ko kasi lamigin ako sobra. sana lang di naman mag OA sa kapal :-)

yes, sa perth bound kami pero after few days mandurah na kami kasi 489 visa kami. kaya naghahanap hanap na din ng room na pwede irent sa mandurah kasi sa perth dun kami sa friend ko tutuloy for few days lang.

hi @jellybean, yes SGD to AUD. Not sure lang kung sa pinas, parang ang alam ko need mo ng dollar account sa pinas before ka makapag wire transfer. to be sure, go to your bank and ask them about it.

@tartakobsy thanks sa suggestion. would you know how much charges? isa pa namin naiisip is to buy AUD from pinoys in AU na din...tipong magdeposito na lang kami ng peso sa mga kapamilya nila sa sa Manila tapos magdeposit na lang sila AUD nila sa account namin. wala na rin sila charges on their part.

The challenge is looking for pinoys in AU na who send to their families regularly.
