Salary Guide and Employment Insights in Australia 2013

RodGanteJrRodGanteJr BrisbanePosts: 206Member
edited May 2013 in Working in Australia
Good day!

Share ko lang po etong information on Salaries and Employment Insights in Australia from Hudson Australia. Although representative sample lang po eto (meaning data are not from all companies) and hindi eto average or relatively accurate, useful po eto particularly if you would like to have an idea on the salary range of your job in a particular city or state in Australia.

In addition po, you can refer to these data if an interviewer, headhunter or employer asked on your expected salary.

Finally, these data are to be used as reference lang po. It is still your discretion po and decision po if you will abide by or adhere to these. For example po, when I was asked by the interviewer on my expected salary, even though the data showed that the salary range of my job is XX,XXX, I decided to give an amount that is lesser than Hudson's data. To my surprise, when they offered me the job, the salary is higher than my expected salary. Please remember that Australia has salary standards or thresholds that are ought to be followed when applying for visas.

Just want to add for clarity po.

For example, yong salary guide for Accounting & Finance is makikita starting from Page 13.

    Pray and believe :)

Sabi ng colleague ko who's moving to WA, mahal na daw ngayon dun. Mataas ang cost of living. And of course, Sydney remains one of the most, if not the most, expensive city in Au. I reckon that's why mas mataas sweldo nila.

@RodGanteJr, oo nga, tama si @lock_code2004. Wala din medical field. Hehe. Sabagay, nasa internet sweldo namin, madali ma-google for references and comparison. :D.

Oo nga po ma'am and doc. Pansin ko rin po na mas mataas ang salaries in Sydney and Perth generally. Dahil po ata eto sa high cost of living (salay = cost of living). Based on what I have read po, as regards the cost of living, medyo pareho na ang WA and NSW.

    @lock_code2004 @Nadine
Sir, wala pong data for Technical and Engineering to date. Baka po tinatapos pa ng Hudson. Update ko nalang po etong thread na to if meron na po.

Doc, update ko nalang po etong thread na to if meron na po. And yes, pwede rin pong mag-refer to other references.

Mahal talaga Australia, I swear. Brisbane nga is not the most expensive city pa ha, pero lahat dito mahal. From rent to groceries to damit to health services. And taxes, mataas! Hehe. :D

Doc @Nadince and ma'am @nfronda, may na-iipon ka po ba kayo every month? Compared to SG salary and expenses (including remittance), mas malaki po ba naiipon nyo po?

One of my concerns ko rin po ang tax sa AU.

But the thing is, I'm earning better here. And even with the tax, mas may natatabi ako dito kahit papano. Kahit pa mas mahal dito at mas nakakapag-remit ako dito more than in Sg. Totoo, masakit sa bulsa talaga. But don't let that stop you talaga. We are quite lucky to be working here really. Also, mag increase yung sweldo mo every year because nagkakaroon ka ng local experience. :)

What you can do is salary package. Pag dating mo dito, ask your company about it. Ang nangyayari with salary packaging kasi, it can decrease your taxable income. So in essence, bumababa ang bracket mo sa tax. So, lesser ang babayaran mo sa tax. Also, pwede din mag voluntary contribution ka to your superannuation and get it pre-tax.

But it's a start.

Yes i live in sydney.. I can still save. Watch blockbusters at the movie, send my kid to daycare. Give and take lang yan. We have no car as of now.. So walking/bus.. Etc. you give up somethings to gain somethings:) ok naman. Mas nakaka save pa din ako here compared to nz.
And when we move to my ate's place.. Save na din on rent.. Thats a 2000 aud savings per month for us.
Rent lng talaga killer in sydney...i pay more rent than my ate's forthnightly mortgage pero saying that nag downpayment sila ng 21% sa bahay nila.
If di lng malaki sweldo ng au.. I would give it up with the bullying i get at work. But i tell myself di naman all the time may bullying..kung dun lang yun si graham cracker.. Hahahaha. If wala naman yung bully at my workplace. I can say na maganda talaga au so far:)

Hehehe.

@Nadine @nfronda Got and noted all your pieces of advice and information po. And maganda nga po yong salary packaging and tax refund.
Look into salary packaging. Ang laking tulong in terms of tax cuts. :)

Sis, salary packaging is an incentive provided by Oz government if you're working in a government institution. Parang, if you work for them, may additional benefit ka. But I think madami din private institution nag offer nito. It has to be non-profit, I believe.

Kunyari sweldo mo is $3k. Kung salary package mo ang rental, food, vehicle, work related gastos, kahit flights or hotel pag nagbakasyon ka, superannuation, mortgage, work-related gastos, etc....

So, ang nangyayari, kukuhanin tong amount na to from your gross salary. So, if lahat ng to naka salary package mo kunyari amounting to $2k, so yung net pay mo na lang ay $1k di ba. Only $1k is taxed. Makikita mo na sweldo mo is $800 lang (if tax is 20%).

If pasok pa sa tax threshold of $20k after mo nag salary package, tax free ka pa. So, kuha mo pa lahat ng sweldo mo talaga, virtually tax-free.

But there are checks and balances to this system para hindi maabuso. They have a system in place eh. That if you claim on one, you can't claim on another benefit. You can't claim twice kumbaga. Also, may cap on benefits. Example, kung naka-salary package ang superannuation, iba tax niyan vs if not on salary packaging. And if withdraw mo pa before retirement plus salary packaging p siya, sangkatutak na tax.

Complicated sila, promise. Umikot utak ko talaga nung una ko nalaman to.

sis @Nadine, may option ba ang bawat employee to choose kung isasalary package or not?

Yes my option ung mga employer, katulad q..dati kasi hndi q maintindhan ang salaray packaging den after a year naging malinaw na sakn so I choose na na mag salary package. Pag nag salary package ka kasi mababa ung tax na bnbayad m.. this is just for an example lg ha.. Pra malinaw..

    No salary packaging:
    Pay/fortnight:$2000
    less tax (20%): $400
    Take home pay: $1600

    With salary packaging:
    Pay/fortnight: $2000
    Less salary package: $1000
Pay less of salary package: $1000
    less tax (7%) :$70
    Take home: $930

So sobrang laki tlga ang matitipd m..

So gamitin m tlga..

    Hope malinaw na..

    ;)
