Hello po!
I'm currently here in AU po and planning to go home in PH next month for the holidays.

should be no problem
Seems unlikely... better call/visit the consulate if this is possible.

In my experience, traveling with an expiring passport is not an issue. When I was flying out to Manila from Taiwan with one month validity left on my passport, I simply told the Taiwan immigration officer that I was flying to Manila to renew my passport. But that was years ago, when getting an online appointment in Manila was relatively easy. Balita ko mahirap makakuha ng online appointment in Manila nowadays, so you will have to confirm this before flying out.
As with starting the renewal process in Sydney, as Cucci said, confirm with consulate. I just don't remember if the old passport will be cancelled on the day you apply for renewal, or pag irerelease na yung bagong passport. When I renewed my passport in Sydney, it took about 6 weeks (in 2019, pre-pandemic pa). Confirm with consulate how long it takes to get the new passport, or if possible na sa Manila mo siya i-pick up.
