Eyeing for student pathway while having active EOI for SC189/491

Hello.

Good day to you.

I would like to ask about the student visa application but with ongoing SC189/491 EOI.

I am a manufacturing engineering manager by profession but graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2004. I have lodged my EOI in 07/2020 for SC189 and SC491 (having a total score of 75) but I took my PTE exam in 2019. Unfortunately, there is no invitation until now due to high points requirement (90 points).

I have relatives in Sydney and will be applying with dependent/s (de facto).

I'm looking for the student visa pathway as my another option and is eyeing on taking MBA/MAF double degree in University of Newcastle.

Would there be complications in student visa application with respect to lodged SC189/491 EOI considering that I have to show in my GTE that I intend to go back to my home country after finishing my studies (which would appear in conflict with my SC189/491 EOI)?

Thank you.

I don't know if Home Affairs will check if you have an EOI in SkillSelect when you apply for a student visa, so I can't comment on your question.

I will, however, ask why you'd be taking an MBA/MAF at Newcastle when your relatives are in Sydney. Newcastle is quite far from Sydney (it's a 3-hour train ride each way), so living with your Sydney relatives wouldn't be ideal because of the long commute and the cost. Also, if your occupation is ME, why study an MBA/MAF? Are you looking to change careers into business/finance? When you apply for your student visa, you need to convince the visa officer in your GTE on why you chose a business master's instead of an engineering one.

The student visa is very expensive (AUD 30-40k tuition per year, plus living expenses) and there's no assurance of getting PR by studying (although you do get 5 points for a 2-year Australian study).
