Hi, that sounds dodgy so I just went to look for info about work sponsorship on Home Affairs website and found some useful info.

"It is illegal for a person to pay an employer to sponsor them for a visa. This includes situations where the person pays the employer, or a deduction is made from their salary, or the person provides any other benefit to the employer. Visa refusal, visa cancellation, fines and imprisonment might be imposed on a person who asks for, receives offers or provides a benefit in return for visa sponsorship or employment."

"Being careful of any job offer which expects an upfront payment or giving back some of your pay."

"You must pay for all costs associated with becoming a sponsor and nominating and sponsoring an applicant. You can't transfer these costs to the visa holder or their family members."

Having skimmed the online info, that offer to your hubby sounds more like a work visa scam. Bottomline is that you should not be paying anything to the employer to shoulder the cost of sponsoring a visa. It is the company or employer's responsibility to pay for the costs associated with sponsoring a overseas worker to come and work in Australia, and they cannot pass on the costs to you.

Please check out the following pages on the Home Affairs website for full details. I could be wrong with my understanding, so please do your due diligence anyway and be aware of your rights and responsibilities if you/hubby will be sponsored to work here.
