Hi! Can any of you suggest a gov't related website where I can find information with regards to bringing our funds to AU (How much money can we bring in the airport, etc). We are a family of 5 on a PR visa (my wife, me and our 3 kids) does the 10k aud apply to us family? Also, my mom is travelling with us, on a tourist visa, can she also bring another 10k with her? Kindly advise...

@lock_code2004 , thank you for this. But there was no mention if the 10k is for each person or for the whole family. Also, my mom is travelling with us, on a different visa, can she bring her own 10k? regards

If you have doubts on this provision mate just declare... You won't be penalized naman for bringing a LOT of money basta you declare. New migrant ka pa so it won't be a problem, basta declare!! :)

Easiest solution sana is to wire your money to an account here in Australia; saves you the trouble of sourcing out more than 10K in bills plus you won't have to worry about losing your money.

I'm planning naman to wire transfer but hindi lahat, not comfortable na wala sken pera ko if you know what I mean. so I'm planning na atleast half wire transfer and half we'll bring as cash. I don't intend to put all of my eggs in one basket. Pag nagkaproblema patay na, walang pang gatas mga anak ko! I would just like to know what the rule really is. As I understand, if you declare, you must show proof pa how you acquired that money (payslip, deed of sale, etc). I just don't want to go through the hassle of proving it if it doesn't need to, I'm with my kids e baka matagal pa yung process nun, maiinip mga bata sa airport.

Anyway, most probably declare na nga lang if I really don't have a choice. Thanks for the advice!

    No worries mate...

I don't know what you mean though with not comfortable with wire transfer! :) it is just a suggestion noh pero i really don't recommend bringing more than 10K in cold cash. pwede yan kasi mawala, manakaw, maiwan, atbp...

to share our experience, we just brought $2k in cold cash when we arrived... All the rest were chucked away in our CBA account earning 4.9% (laki ng interest a few months back) per annum.

Upon arrival, we immediately headed to the bank and present our identification. Ayun after that, we had access na to the money that we wired from Singapore.

    Rgds!!

@TasBurrfoot , I'm not "not comfortable" with wire transfer, I'm just not comfortable na malayo sken pera ko! Andito pko pinas tpos andun na pera ko, aba, akalain mo mauuna pa sken! haha! Thats our lifesavings kse... Anyway, we're planning to open 2 bank accts, 1 for me and 1 for my wife... Anyway, did you have to report yung na-wire transfer mo? I read somewhere na you have to make a report for any wire transfer of more than 10k sa austrac...
