Gusto ko rin malaman ito. Nagtataka kasi ako sa madaming kababayans natin sa AU na mas piniling maging full AU citizen samantalang meron namang option ng dual citizenship. Baka meron nga talagang disadvantages kapag dual.

this is a personal choice naman eh... :)

aussies are visa free in pinas so they can be able to stay for a certain number of days...

if you want to stay for a long time; using the philippine passport is certainly advantageous.

just to add; cguro at this point, marami cguro sa atin nag-iisip na uy dapat dual citizen ako kasi proud to be pinoy, etc, etc...

but in reality when you get there i believe, cguro tatamarin ka to process dual citizenship. others baka manghinayang on the fee to get a pinoy passport or for whatever reason...

Nabanggit lang sa pdos last time advantages daw ng dual citizenship is pag australian passport ka lang you can only stay daw for 21 days. Unlike ph passport you can stay whenever you want, you can vote and no need for special permit kapag gusto mo ulit mag work pnas. Mas marami din options for investments. Also you can have 3 passport daw, nz au and ph at the same time.

No point getting a dual citizenship not unless meron ka mga kamanahan sa Pinas like properties... :)

^True, useful lang ang Ph citizenship if:

    1. Magnenegosyo ka
    2. Bibili ng bahay at lupa, or papatayo ka ng building (bongga!)

Kung condo lang gusto mo pwede kahit foreign passport, may mga quota naman sila usually.

Yup foreigner can own up to 40% ng property.

Cheers

@TotoyOZresident - mate I am curious as you already have the Au passport, did you go to the hassle of applying for dual citizenship?

I am just curious because amongst my Filoz friends ko dito, easily more than 3/4 of them did not bother getting dual.

as far as i know you could still own a property kahit au citizen ka, pero it will be limited to how big you can buy, but for small lots yes you still could, i know this kasi nag research ako dati, ang restriction ang alam ko yung inde sa pinas pinanganak

If a former Filipino who is now a naturalized citizen of a foreign country does not want to avail of the Dual Citizen Law, he or she can still acquire land based on BP (Batas Pambansa) 185 & RA (Republic Act) 8179 but limited to the following:

For Residential Use (BP 185 - enacted in March 1982):

Up to 1,000 square meters of residential land.

Up to one (1) hectare of agricultural of farm land.

For Business / Commercial Use (RA 8179 - amended the Foreign Investment act of 1991):

Up to 5,000 square meters of urban land.

Sakto na yan 1,000 sq meter na residential lot. 200sq mter nga eh malaki na. Condo owning not a problem sa pinas as long as you have budget. So konti lang tlaga ang pros ng dual with pinas. Another problems na nbabasa ko sa dual citizenship is tax implications. As two countries can make a claims if they wanted depending on your status and its current laws/ regulations.

How about retirement? Wala ba dito ang nag iisip bumalik ng Pilipinas to retire for good?

Well, ako, 2 weeks pa lang naman sa Au. So what do I know diba? Pero in foresight, hindi ba most sa atin would still want to go back home at some point and die there? Or baka ako lang yun kasi bago pa ako dito. Although, my relatives who have lived in Canada or US for almost 40 years e nagpplano ngayon mag retire sa Pilipinas. So maybe, feelings change as time goes.

If an Au/Ph dual-citizen decides to retire in the Phils.. may restrictions ba from AU's end na you only can be able to stay outside Au for a certain period, like 3years of every 5-year period, otherwise mawawalan ng bisa ang Au citizenship mo?

I'm not sure about this pero sa tuwing nauwi kami sa Pinas, nawawala/nababawasan sustento ng anak ko from centrelink... this could also be the case kung wala ka sa OZ at retired ka na, baka nawawala din benefits... but not sure.. sino na retired dyan? umamin kayo, ano experience nyo? hehehe
