    hi po,just new here in melbourne, ask ko lang po how to get tax file number online? is it for free? i tried to apply online but my bayad 60 dollars plus. Is it legit or not? They will just send it to our house po ba? How bout the bank account? can i register for it online? hope you can elp me. tnx in advance

    medicare is for PR visa holders only..

    if mag initial entry lang kami and stay for 6 days in AU, ok lang ba na hindi muna kumuha ng tax number at magregister sa medicare and centerlink? tapos saka nalang asikasuhin un pag balik namin para mag settle na.

    No issue at all on this but my question is; why delay it?

    Medicare will take less than 1 hr, tax file number will be done in less than 10 minutes online pa.... I dunno bout centrelink as we did not bother with this.

    Better to do it now in my opinion so that you will be up and ready when you come back AND MOST IMPORTANTLY you will be able to get your medicare card hence you will be covered immediately if ever you need to be hospitalized.

    kasi kung walang mapo-provide si @ozzie ng physical address, then sa pagbalik na lang nya.

    my advice is different... kung 6 days ka lang, wag ka na kumuha ng mga yan, pagbalik mo na lang pag mag settle ka na dun mo na kunin mga yan... enjoy mo na lang Australia, mamasyal ka kung saan saan hehee...

    pero seriously wag na lalo na sa medicare kasi kung more than 30y/o ka na, after a year when you register to medicare, magbabayad ka na ng medicare levy surcharge pag kukuha ka ng private health... so mag register ka na pag talagang settle down ka na para meron ka 1 year not to pay the surcharge...

    You can still waive the LHC loading on private health insurance.... you can get a certificate from medicare stating that you are less than a year in AU ... I just dont know if this still apply if you were out of australia for more than a year ..

    we were 32 ( wife was 31 ) when we enter australia timing na nung kumuha kami ng Private Insurance e less than a year after our entry ...

    @icebreaker1928 ser, clarify ko lang. bale yung 1 year na sinasabi ay yung deadline mo para kumuha ng private insurance without paying the loading?

    so halimbawa po, pagkadating ko ng Au, pag nagregister ako sa Medicare, pwede na rin ako kumuha ng private insurance, pero after 12 months ko pa pwede gamitin?

    pag kumuha ka ng private health insurance, anytime pwede mo na gamitin except na lang sa mga ibang condition like panganganak, pre-existing condition etc... rules na ng private health yun.

    This .. Normally the Health Fund will tell you in specific what you can and cannot claim for a span of x month .. sometime nag ppromo sila ng on-the-spot cover :)

    Meron mga company na merong preferred na Health Insurance Company ... pero d naman sapilitan .. normally meron lang flexibility kagaya ng idededuct na alng sa sahod mo or .. minsan meron company share ang cover mo

    @faa317 kailangan both, lalo na kung magopen kayo ng bank account.. mahal ang tax pag wala kang TFN na ilalagay sa bank.

    Thanks guys for all your suggestions! i just attended CFO kanina, baka meron dito sa forum na kasabay ko umattend kanina. according to the speaker, kelngn daw mag open na ng bank account within 3wks ata of arrival kc madami na daw hihingin na requirements pag hindi nag open agad. i don't know how true this is...for those na ndyan na, mahirap ba mag open ng account?

    and ung medicare, advice nya is within 7 to 10 days upon arrival is mag register na. kaso, if i will have to pay pa ung medical levy surcharge or undergo pa ng trouble of explaining why i don't have to pay it eh baka hindi na rin muna ako magregister. plan kc talaga namin is makapag land muna.

    Yeah suggestion talaga to open up a bank account as soon as possible kasi pag within 6 weeks your passport alone would be sufficient as proof of identity (they use the 100 point identification check). So if more than 6 weeks ka na then you'd have to provide additional document to prove your identity. Di naman hassle mag-open ng bank account dito, you can even open online while you're still in the Philippines.

    For the medicare I'm not quite familiar with it so let's wait for the other member to answer that question.
